kobeni
Given that Rockstar has enough cash to fly to the moon twice, San Fierro would probably be a lot bigger and stuff. The equivalent of Oakland would also probably be a lot bigger since it's pretty much gangland territory. They might also add parodies of San Jose and Berkeley in there for some suburban contrast and Fremont and the redwood forests for nature. Living_of_helium
If there's gonna be shops with actual interiors. I'd imagine you'll see people just snatching stuff and making a mad dash out like it's a everyday thing. Maybe that could be a side mission like burglary. Jezus Holy Christ
It'd be pretty damn disappointing if they pull some Isle of San Fierro crap. I didn't expect more 5 years ago but today it'd be straight up disrespectful. If they're spending a decade (or more...) in development it better be worth the wait. Now that they're all for big maps and variety and all that, a recreation of SF bay area would be perfect: A map bigger than V's with one of the most iconic cities of the series, two other big cities and some smaller towns, suburbs, rural areas, countryside, wilderness, and if done right, water that actually serves a purpose and isn't just filling in the blanks. It totally fits a drug running or smuggling story. San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose can all be present, each smaller than the HD LS but together making up for more city/urban area than V, and equally big countryside connecting them. It could be landlocked on the east side like RDR2. Unfortunately they've f*cked the geography of San Andreas up so bad with V that nothing makes sense anymore. I think they're done with California. Still, if they pretend that Northern San Andreas is a different state altogether, there's a chance to create the best GTA map since 2004. I actually made a relatively plausible County map of San Andreas in the map making thread. R* could certainly create a good SF Bay Area rendition. I think a challenge would be adding enough interesting stuff between San Fierro and Los Santos.

Thing is, if they try to just extend the current San Andreas, it'll either have new land to north and west sides of the V map which would be strange like where has it been all this time, and if they add islands in it'll end up looking more like Hawaii. It's always been like that though. GTA IV's map isn't any less awkward, we just kind of have to pretend equivalents of the rest of NJ and Yonkers exist. We know that The Carraways exist east of LC. Not to mention, GTA 4's map is perfectly flat, when real life NYC is quite rotated IRL. If I had to take a guess, perhaps R* would rotate LC in a theoretical expansion map. GhettoJesus
Now my question is, how could this be made into an interesting and engaging map? The narrow and crooked roads through the mountainous and forested countryside looks interesting. So is the idea that you have a big bay around the urban areas, it could make boat travel interesting.. But there's one thing that bothers me. There are way too many towns connected to each other around SF. It would be a big mistake to leave Oakland out but then it feels wrong to ditch all the other cities connected to Oakland and SF. What should be kept, what should be cut out, what should be changed? It seems like a difficult area to work with. Edited September 3, 2021 by GhettoJesus

A lot of those smaller towns (which are essentially just suburbs of SF, Oakland, and San Jose) could be done in the same vein as Alderney; large neighborhood sized municipalities that break the 3 major cities. Davis, Del Perro, and Rockford Hills are all technically their own political entities. I'm sure they could do the same for areas like Berkeley, Fremont, Union City, San Leandro, and so on. They don't have to be particularly big and some could even be merged. GhettoJesus, DeltaV20, NightmanCometh96 and 1 other
