sabitsuki
Just a thread to share some of your more unscripted, memorable moments in the games where music on the radio somehow fits the activity or mission you were doing at the time. GTA VCS: Sex I'm A... by Berlin playing during Blitzkreig Strikes Again while I'm running over Mendez goons. This song, the epitome of 80s hedonism and excess, combined with Lance's humorous one liners, blends surprisingly well with the all the carnage going on. GTA SA: Guerillas in the Mist or Movin On Up during Tenpenny's firetruck chase in End of the Line. The former was easily one of the greatest hype songs that matched up with the madness of the Los Santos Riots and the latter felt like a triumphant tune to suit the final chase in the game. GTA IV: Cry by Godley and Creme after killing Dardan in Bleed Out. It was a surprisingly eerie song that played while I was chasing Dardan across Hove Beach and BOABO, and to still hear the song on the radio after Niko effortlessly kicks him into the river in cold blood is nothing short of haunting. 5:23 by Global Communication playing during the Huntley Sport chase in Revenger's Tragedy. I don't know, this song feels like a culmination of all the emotions that went down after the events of That Special Someone and Mr. And Mrs. Bellic, and it's a nice homage to Love On A Real Train by Tangerine Dream. It was a really fitting chase song for a man overwhelmed by grief, confusion, regret and revenge. TLAD: Command by Foxylane, Shake It Loose by Blonde Acid Cult or Blood In My Mouth by Kreeps during Coming Down when you rescue Ashley. It's kind of poetic to listen to ratty, sleazy post punk revival tunes playing from a busted up speaker while you're gunning down drug dealers and junkies across a dirty crack den apartment block to get your girl, who is just as f*cked up on crystal as the rest of them. The intimate moment between Johnny and Ashley was also nice. CynicalMexican
"Jailbreak" by Thin Lizzy while chasing down Pegorino's men in the final mission Out of C. Fit the very vengeful mood. H-G and sabitsuki
ThermalSmoke
During the mission "Plaster Blaster" in GTA 3, I got the dude you "failed" to kill last mission out of the ambulance. The radio station that was playing was Head Radio, and you know what? They were playing "Life Is But A Mere Supply". Anyways, I was about to run him over in his bandaged covered body when the line, "I like it when you run through the bones" came up as I ran him over. I thought that was a funny coincidence. Dark, but humorous. CynicalMexican, Zenit, H-G and 3 others
The Tracker
GTA IV: -Evil Woman by ELO during "First Date" listening to it while playing with Michelle in the Bowling Alley gives a sense of irony and foreshadowing on how things will turn out (Or how they actually are given her fake identity), even worse if she beats you. -Jdat by Marakesh while chasing Vlad in well, "Uncle Vlad" gives off that sense of energy and exasperation Niko has at that right moment, and considering how now he knows he can't really stop himself from killing by his own hand again to achieve his goals in the city, using the truth about Vlad and Mallorie as another excuse, some lyrics makes a lot of sense with it: "I know truth, and not I'd say, why!" "No, we will not be able to laugh and cry!" "Trying to restrain myself" Edited August 28, 2021 by The Tracker H-G, sabitsuki, Xane_MM and 1 other
AkshayKumar
Both San Andreas 'Today was a good day' playing during the Tenpenny firetruck chase, felt like such a fitting track to Tenpenny getting his comeuppance. Was a good day indeed, felt like the closing song for the story too. 'I love a rainy night' playing during the second Wu Zi Mu race in the countryside, to me it just fit that mission and got me hyped during the race. sabitsuki, H-G, Ivan1997GTA and 2 others
H-G
SA: I kept messing up the firetruck chase part when I played "End of the Line" for the first ever time around, so during one of the retries Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg - "Deep Cover" once came on the radio and the look of the resulting situation was so damn epic. LCS: Oh man, what can I say, every single song on the radio in this game is top-notch and worth a listen. Not matter how boring the mission is, the music just makes everything absolutely awesome. But to pick one; listening to Natacha Atlas - "Kidda" play on the radio during missions like "Bone Voyeur!" and "Ho Selecta!" gave off a pretty "naughty"-ish vibe. Algonquin Assassin
I think it was the first time I finished “This sh*t’s Cursed” and “Wanted Dead Or Alive” came over the radio as soon as I got on the bike. If there was ever an appropriate song given the context and meaning of a mission that would be it. I could feel my balls and chest swell up with exuberance in that moment. TrickyMario7654
Vice City: When I was doing a playthrough of the OG PS2 version recently, I had "Atomic" by Blonde playing while doing the mission "Cabmaggedon", which is quite ironic, as Deborah Harry (the lead singer of Blondie) voiced Doris (the taxi controller of Kaufman Cabs). San Andreas: "White Wedding" by Billy Idol happened to be the song playing when I killed Madd Dogg's manager in "Management Issues". Later on, the same song was playing when I saved Madd Dogg from killing himself in the mission "Madd Dogg". Vice City Stories: When I entered Marty Jay Williams's truck after stopping him from turning out Louise Cassidy-Williams earlier today in the mission "D.I.V.O.R.C.E.", "We Belong" by Pat Benatar was playing, a fitting song considering that Louise would end up being Vic Vance's love interest in the game. AlexGTAGamer
TBoGT Not So Fast. Just got into the Buzzard on the roof of the Libertonian when “Disco Inferno” by The Trammps came onto the radio. Very fitting for the ensuing helicopter firefight. Also in GTA IV, chasing Pegorino’s men on the Expressway during “Out Of Commission” when “Pruit Igoe” by Philip Glass begun playing. My finger was pressed hard on the controller bumper to keep the car accelerating when the song reached the more quick tempo segment, and my eyes were hard fixed on the chase vehicle ahead, all whilst Roman and Jacob were making sightseeing comments in the background. It was intense, yet also comical, which I needed as my heart was pounding during that mission. TrickyMario7654
Just remembered another one I had while playing Vice City recently. When I was driving the Cuban gangsters to the Haitian Drugs Factory in the mission "Cannon Fodder", "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood was playing on Wave 103. It was quite fitting as the Cubans and Haitians were about to have another gang war. H-G, VenusianDream, Xane_MM and 1 other
TrickyMario7654
Had two more occur when I was playing Vice City Stories today: Firstly, when doing "The Colonel's Coke", I had "Space Age Love Song" by A Flock of Seagulls play on the radio when I had to protect Gonzalez's boat in a helicopter. For some reason, I found the song to fit quite well with what was going on at the time. When I did the next mission, "Kill Phil", "Easy Lover" by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins began playing as I hopped into the bulletproof limo you use to chauffeur Phil Collins to his hotel. It's quite ironic that a Phil Collins song happened to be playing on the radio during a mission with him in it. Panzermann11
In San Andreas, Motownphilly by Boyz II Men was playing on a mission where you have to reach Mike Toreno through many payphones before his phone's battery runs out (Forgot what it was called, sorry!). It somehow made the situation more intense, while also goofy. Edited February 3 by Panzermann11
billiejoearmstrong8
I live for this! All GTA IV/EFLC - 'Evil Woman' playing while driving the bodies of the guys Elizabeta killed to the organ doctor - 'Five to One' playing while throwing sticky bombs at bikers from a limo in Frosting on the Cake in TBOGT (badass) - Meanwhile in TLAD, 'Wanted Dead or Alive' playing while chasing down and killing Evan to get the diamonds (also badass) - Ruslana's 'Wild Dances' playing while Niko and Bernie chase the Russians around the freeway in a sports car in Union Drive - 'Pruit Igoe' while driving to the final mission of IV - 'Call From the Grave' while driving home from a bloody gang war on my bike during a storm in TLAD - 'Go to Hell' while chasing down Bulgarin's plane on a motorbike and jumping in it - Marvin Gaye's 'Inner City Blues' playing while commuting on a rainy night shortly after having to move to Bohan - 'Disco Inferno' ("burn baby burn") playing after setting fire to the Angels of Death's clubhouse (hilarious - only thing that would've been funnier is if it was in the final TLAD mission) These are the most memorable ones I've had. The music adds to the games so much every time I play though, such an important aspect of them. In 'A Long Way to Fall' hearing the hip hop station playing on the radio in the kitchen of the apartment I'm fighting my way up the project building to get to getting louder and louder as I go makes the atmosphere of that mission awesome. And I really like how you can choose to leave the engine running and radio playing in your vehicle to add atmosphere during random moments and shootouts. TrickyMario7654
A few months ago, when I was doing the mission "Don Peyote" in San Andreas, I had "Runnin' Down a Dream" by Tom Petty playing as I had to drive Paul and Maccer to Caligula's Casino while being chased by the snake farmers. It made me really hyped to do the mission! Ivan1997GTA, H-G and LeakyLine 1
TrickyMario7654
During "Roman's Sorrow", "Evil Woman" by Electric Light Orchestra was playing on Liberty Rock Radio as I drove to both Roman's burning apartment and taxi depot. The song pretty much fitted what was happening at the time, especially since Roman had lost everything he owned and worked for up to that point. Additionally, by complete luck, the song happened to start just before I arrived at the Broker safehouse and ended as I arrived at Niko and Roman's new safehouse in South Bohan. JetNormalGuy
"Hold the line" played during End of The Line in Tenpenny's chase scene. universetwisters
Everything here is funny or great. It makes me a bit upset that GTA 5 kinda pokes us to listen to the stations they automatically put us on during parts of the story because stuff like this makes each playthrough of the game unique and personalized, as opposed to all of us having the same experience. Agreed, and I also dislike how it sometimes automatically turns off the radio to play score instead. Although I have had moments in V just like the other games during random play or when I've changed the station to what I want. My favourite was when I noticed Michael's car was really dirty and decided to make a special trip just to go to a car wash to clean it (which I like never do) and "Dirty White Boy" started playing. And I did enjoy when Trevor was really angry and switched the station himself that one time, that was an example of doing it in a good way. Panzermann11
When I was playing the infamous Demolition Man mission, I had V-Rock on the radio and Comin' At Ya Live by Tesla was playing. When the singer's gone "AWWW YEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, HERE IT COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMES!" at the end of the song, I had already placed the last bomb and the explosion suprisingly lined up. It's as if the radio knew I was about to make one of, if not, the most awesome moment in my entire Vice City playthrough. EDIT: I also realized the song kinda fit the nature of the mission I was playing. I thought the "Coming at ya, live!" could be interpeted as "The bombs are coming at ya, and they're live!" I actually like how GTA V has its own original soundtrack, it makes certain missions and moments more memorable as it helps set the mood as opposed to having nothing to spice up a gunfight or a car chase, of course they still should respect moments where there shouldn't be any music. its my favorite thing about V, they finally took the stuff they used from Bully and RDR1 and made music to play during certain missions or events which helps the over-the-top hollywood-esque direction they went with in the game.
