Remaster, E&E and the next game is the same thing (theory)

Recommended Posts

I want to share a theory about why the remaster trilogy and Expanded and Enhanced could actually be the next game, instead of several different games like the media make it seem to be (e&e, standalone online and the remasters)

First of all, not only did we not get absolutely any new content of any sort (screenshot, trailer, teaster) from the supposed PS5/E&E version, but Rockstar only gave us the trailer with footage from several PS3 gen trailers (there's an analysis video you can find) and more importantly, that was over a year ago.

There's already two problems:

1. Rockstar made and makes some of the best games in history, would it be logical for them to release a trailer for an upgraded PS5 version using not just an old trailer, but one that's not even based on PS4, knowing full well that they will get loads of dislikes and media attention, or would it make more sense that the whole thing was a huge troll from Rockstar, the same company that is capable of making easter eggs and mysteries that take years and years for hundreds of millions of players around the world to figure out?

2. Even if we assume that the trailer for E&E wasn't a troll and that for whatever weird reason they couldn't wait to show off their new upgraded version and instead decided to promote it with old footage (...yeah), considering it's release date is set for mid november, which is just two and a half months from now, why didn't we get absolutely any piece of content, even a teaser or screenshot, for over a year (trailer for e&e was in june 2020), and nothing even now 2.5 months before release?

For comparison, Cayo Perico was promoted with ingame hints over a month before Cayo Perico's release, you would have thought that an entire new gen and standalone online, which were announced over a year ago, would be more important than the Cayo update and that they would promote it more, but nope, nothing.

Second thing, the trilogy rumours.

The very name of the Expanded and enhanced should tell us why there won't be a trilogy, but....an expansion. In the official announcement from june 2020, there wasn't really anything related to the word expanded:

"The new generation versions of GTAV will feature a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever.

And for the massive and vibrant community of Grand Theft Auto Online players worldwide, the journey through the ever-evolving, shared world of GTA Online will continue on to the new generation with more new updates including additional GTA Online content exclusive to the new consoles and PC. There will also be a new standalone version of GTA Online coming in the second half of 2021, which will be available for free exclusively for PlayStation 5 players during the first three months. "

There was a news article from may of this year about more car options in E&E, which would kiiinda fit into the word expand, but that was before Tuners was announced and it seems that that was what was actually talked about.

What if expanded is supposed to represent the trilogies, LC, VC and SA? Wouldn't adding more cities on the same game platform&using many of the same game files make more sense, than releasing separate +100GB game with it's own vehicle, texture, audio, physics, etc. data and files and all that on Unreal Engine for whatever weird reason?

Also, another thing that has already been expanded is...New Austin, which is basically the same map that has been upgraded with new regions and a new engine, wouldn't it make sense for LS to be expanded in the same way, instead of having different games on a game engine that's not even developed by Rockstar?

Nah man, the Trilogy remake/remaster is being developted by Rockstar Dundee a.k.a Ruffian Games, which have a big familiarity with UE, that's why they're using it.

If Rockstar were to put LC, VC, SF and LV on the LS map (which doesn't make sense), they wouldn't put the classic versions but HD versions like in GTA 4 and 5, and creating these HD versions is veeeery complicated, that's a job meant for a brand new GTA.

Wow, so many good arguments.

So what is your explanation for

1. PS3 footage being released for announcing E&E?

2. For absolutely no content more than a year after announcement and even now 2.5 months prior to it's release?

3. For absolutely no explanation of what "expanded" stands for?

R* reused old footage for the trailer because there's no point in marketing a game that's dominated best seller charts for almost a decade at this point. GTA 5 is ubiquitous in gaming and such. It will sell with limited marketing.

It probably simply wasn't ready to show off when it was announced. It might even have been Sony making the trailer to be completely honest. We're probably getting something unexpectedly any time now.

RDR2 PC was only announced and marketed a month or so before release. I have a feeling R* wants to make sure everything is as ready as possible now, especially with working from home, possibly shifting priorities if they have multiple projects, etc. etc.

Exception, not the rule. Take a look at this list on the GTA Wiki and go through the DLC's. Most DLC is announced very close to release, Cayo Perico was simply one of the DLC's that was teased a long time before.

It's not a new title so they didn't go all out on the trailer and announcement. Did you expect the mural and billboard treatment for a re-release? I know, it's not a good look that they recycled old footage but it's not surprising. And as for "Expanded", the trailer featured some Online content, so it might simply mean they're finally bringing years of Online content to SP.

It's sweet to imagine they're upgrading the potato-chip-island map to a complete State of San Andreas map with three cities and adding a whole new campaign with flights to Liberty City and Vice City, but Rockstar haven't shown any sign of E&E being anything more than a graphical upgrade on the 8th gen V with some perks to make it worth the price tag.

And to be honest, I don't even think that this update will allow any new cities addition, because the next GTA is imminent although it's unclear when it will be out. R* will never settle for a quite Online upgrade instead of releasing the new big GTA that will be talked about for years ahead, there's no point.

I agree.

On a side note, I’m a big fan Mr. Falk.  I just watched ‘Death Lends A Hand’ a few days ago.
