Rob72891
1. The most obvious one. Every time you learn a fighting style, the one you learned earlier is no longer in use unless you go back to the gym and learn it again. It should be a way where you can change the style without having to go all the way back to the gym, similar to how you change your weapons while on foot. 2. There are no moves to perform counters. I mean they teach you how to run and fight and kick them while they're down yet not any moves to block and dodge the blows or counterattack. What good is having a fighting style when you don't get to learn defense? Isn't that just as important in fighting? 3.There's just no use for them in any of the missions since a good 97% of them involves you to use your weapons instead. I hate how they go to waste. So yeah. I felt that R* should have executed the fighting styles much better in this game due to those 3 problems.
Rhoda
1. Can't deny that this is a bit of a flaw, but if the fighting moves are indeed useless, there's no real reason to be selective. In addition, each of the fighting styles are vastly different in technique and origin. Of course in our world somebody could (and likely is) proficient in all three we're shown, but having a choice of three means we can further tweak what kind of fighter we want CJ to be. 2. You can block attacks whilst fighting, but there are indeed no real counters. Blocking is useful because it gives you a small window to fire back with a combo attack, which is probably the closest we're going to get. Despite the penchant for violence, this isn't so much as a fighting game as a crime game. You could point out the lack of silencers on all weapons or the lack of actual weapon technique but you can't include everything I suppose. 3. There's no use if you're skilled, but the entire point is to give you alternate methods of play. Ammunition wasn't easy to come by to a fresh player back in 2004. Sure, you could kill a cop and take his gun but 15 bullets aren't going to get you very far. To anybody playing earlier in the story with no knowledge of any weapon locations, they're going to struggle finding much of anything without attracting negative attention. Imagine instead you're in a rival neighbourhood, no guns, Ballas quickly approaching. All of a sudden it seems a mighty fine idea to throw a few punches and flee as quickly as possible. Flymystical-DJ
Like many thing in Sanandreas I'm just happy they're there. I never knew about them for a long time and I got so much joy out of seeing CJ pulling off badass kung fu. It would have been baller if mastering all three got you some kind of ultimate mix though. CynicalMexican
The peds in GTA SA are kinda plebs ngl compared to GTA 4 where the fighting felt like it served a purpose.
