So, are RDR and GTA connected?

In GTA online, New austin is mentioned by name, the J. Marston book reference, Epsilon referencdes, and more other references lead me to believe so, there's a headcannon theory i thought up, that Francis Sinclair somehow caused a butterfly effect in the timeline via time-travelling, and that's why the GTA world's cities/states are named differently.

Nice little theory but I personally doubt that the references are more than easter eggs. Although I think that everyone's theory is true until R* can prove it otherwise.

I think the strongest link between the two is the Epsilon stuff, since that amounts to more than just one little reference tucked away somewhere, but involves entire missions and strings of missions in both.

I hope they are not connected as it would basically ruin for me RDR's story, no wonder Dutch runs away from civilization, look how it turned out in GTA.

The Epsilon aren't really part of any storyline in GTA other than maybe in GTA 5. They appear in both the 3D and HD universes

 

The GTA Wiki includes RDR as part of the HD universe, so normally I'd agree but in the last few years GTA Wiki has become such an unreliable source of information
