Retouching on a canned idea (C&C Discussion)

(This is a long read. I am also aware that Tuners came out couple weeks ago, but I think this needs to be touched on.)

Last year, there was a rumored DLC planned for a Cops and Crooks theme. It would focus on exactly what it sounds like (Cops and Robbers style of gameplay). Unfortunately, due to what was current events at the time, the DLC was effectively canned. However, I want to bring to attention the possibility of bringing it back, why it could happen, how it could be adjusted to make it more PR friendly, if not going for the original concept, and so on.

When the DLC was canned, people believed that it likely wouldn’t come back, solely because it didn’t seem like the right time for it. At the time of me typing this, this is still the case. However, there was mentioning to be a chance for rebranding it (More on that later). This obviously caused us to get the LSSS update that we know now came out in its place. But, while the update was discarded, there are still things such as the N.O.O.S.E outfit that still isn’t blacklisted after almost two years of existence, despite glitches or jobs being required to get it, changes regarding the message that appears when bringing police vehicles to LS Customs, and possibly still existing code for certain assets that were never promptly implemented.

These alone should give you an idea that it was going to happen, and has obviously been stated by people far smarter than me. However, there’s a big “why” factor on why they should bring it back in December. There are four big reasons for it:

1.) With the common theme of following fan requests in the past two years (Tuners, Solo heisting in Cayo Perico, etc.) it should come as a given that they should listen to the police community next. The cop community makes up a good amount on both Fivem and in the base game. They’ve catered to the grinding community with items like the Master Terminal in the Arcade and the Kosatka submarine, the car community with the LS Tuners update, the list goes on. They even added Firefighter gear, and a few other outfits people can use to RP with. However, the cops of San Andreas never did get an update solely to themselves. It’d be a warm welcome to them, and highlight something that makes GTA Online a unique experience to people that don’t know too much about it.

2.) E&E is just around the corner, and Rockstar is likely working hard on getting it out for the next generation of consoles. That amount of work should make it obvious that they may not have enough time to really make a new DLC from scratch in time for December. Therefore, they should reuse assets they have already planned, with the Cops and Crooks assets immediately coming to mind. It’d be quick to prepare and bring out, all they’d need to do is finish a few things and get approval from Microsoft and Sony to allow for console launch, as well as anything required for PC.

3.) It’d bring more people in. Rockstar, at the end of the day, is a company. There’s probably a good amount of people that don’t play GTA that would draw their attention to it, and check it out, allowing for more sales and Shark Card microtransactions to allow for, you guessed it, more money.

4.) In a story sense, it’d work as a good follow-up from LS Tuners. You’ve got the Car Meet, of which could be housing a dangerous criminal under everyone’s nose, and the LSPD/BCSD, unable to get to them, meaning someone, being the player, would need to find a way to bring them to justice.

If Rockstar wanted to, instead of going for a direct police approach, they could also go for working alongside someone like the FIB, IAA, or Securoserv. They’re not directly cops, especially with the last candidate. There’s also the possibility of a vigilante style to it. Any of these possibilities would be plausible.

At the end of the day, letting a police update like this go into the can shouldn’t happen, especially on how big the police community can be. I personally think that it’d be a good welcome and allow for another side of San Andreas to seep in. I’m hoping this gets some traction so that maybe we can get the devs to reconsider discarding it.
