GTAO generating 2.5M per day??

Hi,

I'm sure we've all seen that article recently claiming GTAO generates 2.5M per day.

As a total newbie in online gaming, my question is: through what revenue stream??

If I take for instance FUT, that generates ridiculous amounts of money, the game is a pay to win so players have no other choice than buying points as this is the only way to have a competitive team. And they need to repeat the process (and investment) at the start of each new season. The game is actually becoming a public issues here in Europe with MPs of several countries taking action against EA but that's another story.

In the case of GTAO, how does R* generate revenues ? I mean I cant believe anyone still buys sharkcards when you could get the equalivent of an 80€ sharkcard within 90minutes of play time?

Is there something I'm missing here ?

You'd be surprised.

Standard Deluxe 59

Shark cards plus new game sales, particularly the Christmas time sales surge makes it not terribly implausible that this game grosses an average of 2.3 million a day. Bear in mind that GTA V stays in the top 10 game sales charts pretty consistently, even after close to 8 years later.

Care to elaborate on that? By €80 shark card I assume you mean the Megalodon one that pays 8,000,000 GTA$, so you need like 5-6 Cayo runs for it. That'll take you at least 4-5 hours if you are competent enough, even more for a casual player, not even close to 90 minutes.

Any why people wouldn't buy shark cards lol. Many people like the easy way out if he wants a new car to have fun but can't be arsed to play to earn it.

Yeah you probably are. I'm sure that was at it's peak, like a couple months after heists or Doomsday or something. Maybe that's it's average since launch. We can divide the billion it made last year by day and it does come out to roughly 2.5 million. The average GTA player has the intelligence and attention span of a gold fish so...

Does it change the point though? Wether you take the yearly or daily figures my question remains: how could a 7yo game that requires no financial investment and has a ridiculous amount of money making glitches generated in excess of 900M$ last year ?

It seems I totally underestimated how sharkcards were still selling. At a point in time in a game where an 80€ investment gets you a high end car and a fully upgraded property or business.

Look no further than top downloaded games on PS Stores and other stores too. GTAV still maintain its place within the top 10 games every month. It keeps pulling in new players and sells copies by millions every quarter according to T2 sales.

New players and a minority of players who purchase shark cards is what generates most of if not all the revenue. Although, I have my doubts on whether the exact figure is accurate enough.

Some people count finale exploiting as a normal thing.

I've been trying to tell people this. Sure, they make some money off of shark cards. But every year there is somebody who is now old enough to play the game.
During 2020 they sold over 1 million copies of the game... in the U.K. alone. A country with only ~80M people in total.

99% playerbase doesn't even know and care about those kind of tricks and exploits, especially the people buying shark cards :kekw:

sh*t, if we look at this latest update, 80 dollars will get you the latest business (4 million for a fully upgraded garage) and 1 car (roughly 1.5 to 2.5 million depending on lots of things). Naturally you'll want more than one car so that's another card you gotta buy, and that's just from 1 update from 1 player.

I was amused that this (rough) comparison proves the connection or correlation between these markets

But my point in looking at Shark Card was to see where we are in the product cycle. You can kinda see it still looks like maturity rather than decline.

Take Two's market cap is 18bn vs 48bn for roblox, what a world

PS I don't know how many platforms the game was free on as of April/May 2020 but it was a few and f*ck me did they have the definition of a captive market.

PPS You'd be amazed how much of a part newspapers chasing SEO clicks played in this. Just ask google any GTAO question and see what sort of weird mainstream news sites come up, because they chase traffic. Virtuous cycle innit.

Its GTA, everybody knows GTA, either people grew up with it, or (by now) their parents did, and R* is still releasing DLC, that keep getting better. And since the last few they are really expanding their advertisement. All those things combine to a pretty much steady stream of new and returning players, with peaks around every dlc release.

Once the new players hit the "f- me i keep getting griefed and dont know how to make good money"-wall (about a week in i'm guessing) the game will start telling them about shark cards.

For returning players, the game aggressively upsells shark cards, like offering 100-250% bonus cash. If you already know the game but dont have the latest few money making methods, its pretty easy to go "allright fine ima buy a shark card to buy a sub/arcade/whatever so i can make good money too"

Now consider the price of said shark cards, they are some of the most pricey 'microtransactions' in games today, R* only need to sell them to a tiny portion of the playerbase to turn a profit.

Yes, I do. Finale exploiting is part of the game and it's a completely normal thing. All it takes is a "connection issue" at the right moment.

The game allows you to do it without mods or trainers, and me and my crew have been doing it forever since Doomsday came out.

We take turns hosting, and we make up to 4 heist finales per hour, first Doomsday Act 2, then Casino, and now Cayo Perico.

They'll post a bunch of fake LVMC or cialis or whatever links in a few days because they haven't covered rel=nofollow in their class yet

Fun fact I'm old enough to be a grandparent, and I was playing GTA when it came out. GTA Online even, using one of these artifacts
