Game won't start - Am completely lost at this

Hello,

 

The last time I played this game was 2 computers ago. I recently moved places and found the discs so thought why not install and play?

 

I am running on a laptop which runs GTA V so GTA IV shouldn't be an issue

 

However. What I've done;

1. Done a full installation from DVD.

2. Rockstar Games Social Club then wouldn't log me in - > Downloaded Rockstar Game Launcher

3. Added the game to my launcher by adding the serial key etc. All was accepted, game shows up in Rockstar Game Launcher

4. Upon launching Rockstar Game Launcher automatically added Episodes Of Liberty City. Started downloading, updating etc.

5. I was then able to launch.

6. Game launches but I don't get further than the first 2 credit screens.

 

I've done some reading but before I start trying to add numerous plugins/addons could anyone tell me (maybe step by step?) what to do? It's been years since I've downloaded/added plugins so at the risk of doing something I shouldn't maybe someone over here could help me out?

What version are you trying to run? Version 1.0.0.0 installed from DVDs does not work well under Windows 10 on modern PCs (it randomly freezes) and needs to be patched at least up to 1.0.4.0. Version 1.2.0.43 that RGL downloaded should run OK.

I just looked it up and it's version 1.2.0.43.

When you redeemed your game from RGL it could either find and update your existing 1.0.0.0 game or download second copy of 1.2.0.43 - I don't know which one RGL does. 

Do you still have version from DVD intact or was it updated by RGL to 1.2.0.43?

 

If you still have 1.0.0.0 installed I think you need to try patching it up and get it running first before troubleshooting that 1.2.0.43 mess.
