Lots of long and repetitive scripted missions

Story drags too long

I'd say 9.0. It's one of the best PC games ever made.

-- The game world is extraordinary

-- Graphics are fantastic

-- Story is superb

-- Writing, dialog and voice acting top-notch

-- Controls, as mentioned, are poor. But I've come to think of this as a charm, that I fumble occasionally, that I am not a super man, except the 17,386 times I have holstered my weapon away when I meant to go dead-eye

--Missions are classic R*-style, which can be a blessing and a curse

--For me the biggest drawback is Dutch. I really despise him when I should instead feel a kinship, a loyalty, a sense of family. Instead I wonder why am I following this man, who only leads us astray. Plus he puts bugger all in the till.

-- The best horses in any video game

-- A game world full of things to do

-- Exquisite pacing

-- Best poker on PC

-- Fantastic weapon animations and gunplay

-- Insane detail and period authenticity. Did you ever look at the ruts made from a passing stage, how they vary in depth according to the firmness of the ground? This level of detail is every/where

-- Lousy bounty hunter system, that they spawn and are not persistent entities. Just boom "there he is! Get him!"

-- Snakes. I hate snakes

So yeah, about a nine :)

A solid 9.

Its only real negatives are some of GTA V’s nasty restrictive design making their way in and the Guarma section being at odds with the rest of the story.

I still prefer Vice City and GTA IV slightly more, but it has its place with the best.

9.5/10

Not a 10/10 because you can't ask fellow gang members to hang out with you (which was heavily implied in trailers before release) and you can't go to New Austin as Arthur.

I'll also have to give it a 9.5/10

The linear mission structure and annoying quirks such as forced weapon loadouts during missions (especially if you choose to replay them for medals), unequipping shoulder weapons in towns/settlements, etc. bring the experience down a bit. But unlike GTA V (which I had similar issues with), I love RDR2's story and I have too much fun with the open world for those problems to ruin the package as a whole. I don't think I'll ever grow bored with it; having just finished my 4th playthrough this week (and my first 100% run), I'm still discovering new things throughout the world (believe it or not, I didn't know about the UFO until this past week!). I would have been willing to ignore the aforementioned linearity issues and give the game a perfect 10/10 if I didn't have to install the JMRP mod for a more accurate John Marston. Even just having his OG hair would have been enough for me...

That said, I'm torn as to whether RDR2 or GTA IV is my favorite R* game. For me, it's like choosing between Super Mario Bros. 3 and World: they're both so good that it honestly just depends on which game I'm in the mood for at the moment.

9.7/10 - Rockstar's best game and the peak of open world gaming. It set the standard for all third person action adventure open world games and I don't think any game will ever top it except GTA VI or RDR III. I didn't give it a 10/10, because I don't believe in "the perfect game". Every game has its flaws, but RDR II is pretty damn close to being flawless.

Not arguing with what is written, but just adding that I play in first person, and I'd give it the same accolade.

Actually I set it up to switch to third person when I mount a horse, and back to first person when dismounting. But aside from riding a horse I play exclusively in first person. GTA5 too (except the horse bit). Just a personal preference and I like to say that it makes the difference for me from controlling my character, to becoming my character.

Thanks, changed it to action adventure open world game.

7/10 because the game is kinda boring, and the controls are total crap, the graphics and the map is good, but that's it.

I didn't finish the story mode, so hmm maybe the story itself is so good and i don't know about it, but i doubt it.

Yes, that reminds me, I didn't mention the map and the journal, both of which are beautifully done in RDR 2.

9/10. Beautiful and well-crafted game but some parts got a bit boring for me and I didn't like how I was railroaded into having to play the way the game wants me to as opposed to how I wanted to play. I could have lowered the number but the positives by far make up for it.

9.5. I’m just strolling around in free roam at the moment and I love it.

Half a point knocked of because the geography of the map actually makes no sense. Like the rivers for instance. But other than that I love this game, I really love it.

A solid 9.
I'm reviewing it as a single player game.
Online is dead for me.

Pros:
1 Beautiful story.
2 Beautiful play world.
3 Great atmosphere.
4 Nice music.

5 Weighty interactions and combat

Cons:

1 Even though technical marvel, some cut corners in the polishing.
Better than anything else on the market, but it's that I care enough to mention it.

2 They could have gotten much more out of it with e.g. more minigames

3 Sorry to be the one saying it, but the Political Correctness is painful and cringey.
The suffragettes, Sadies whole character, Arthurs supposed egalitarianism, Lennies SJW'ing...
That is not 1899 I'm telling you. I can take the harsh reality. Make it as such, please.
Maybe they had too less they'd get their bank accounts frozen, but still.

4 update policy catering the GTA:Horse crowd and ignores the slow paced dad-game crowd.

5 first person mode doesn't allow you to walk slowly effortlessly. This bothers me a lot.

I agree completely but I wouldn't knock off a half point for it.
The map could have been a bit bigger as to more naturally flow from a certain environment/climate to another.
This would have also mitigated many of those geographical impossibilities.
But R* had to balance between the role players and the GTA:Horse crowd.

And just like when watching a movie, I'm willing to suspend reality for a moment.
Though I can imagine if you work professionally with maps or you're a zone planner or something like that its
pretty bothersome.

My thoughts exactly.

Its not perfect, but its the closest thing to perfect there is.

I'd rate it a little higher though, like 9.8 or 9.9.

I would only rate it 10 if they connected the stories between RDR1 and RDR2 better to be honest.

RDR2's story by itself is great,  but if you try to connect it to RDR1, its just confusing.
