Erased
As the subject says...What happened to the race boost you used to be able to do when pressing down on the R2 trigger to get that little boost at the beginning? I did all of the street races last night with my friend and neither of us could do it. I am on PS5 & he's on PS4 Edited August 8, 2021 by Mach1bud

A silly change Rockstar made only a few updates ago, and / or 2) Wait until you see the green "GO" for a half second before pressing the right trigger. It's still possible but it's "not as easy" and I can only imagine them doing the thing for point 1 because of how some vehicles have a turbo spool (eg, Swinger) or its an idea that they want to bring to E&E. Mach1bud
Ive literally done it in every race. Doesnt seem any different to me than it has always been. I always floor it right up until it says GO, then I let off and hit it again. Get the boost everytime. I actually have a video of me doing it in a pursuit race here: boomboom5950, Kushology, The Fixer and 1 other 2 1 1 Twitter - Instagram - Youtube - Social Club

Certainly, on PC, when I go into normal races that we do in the crew every week, doing the constantly revving thing before GO means that you don't get the boost, but I'll have to try it again. ambi3nt
Sometimes it doesn't trigger due to desync imo. I.e. you might notice how occasionally even countdown timer starts like at 2 or even 1/GO already. I'm not sure what exactly R* did with these changes, but I'm still revving before start and it works fine, unless this particular bug happens. Pedinhuh
Works the same as always here on PS4. I hold the throttle throughout the the race opening cinematic and then the countdown, once the 1 starts to fade I lift the throttle and then push it again to hit the super boost. The only instance where this doesn't work is on Open Wheel races. Mach1bud

Foxwolfe
I don't even hold the throttle I just hit the gas at GO and I'm good, no idea what this "rapid tapping" thing even is lol so I guess for me there's no change. But yeah OP it still works like normal, unless you were using that method the patch notes talk about fixing.
Gorn Lord
They fixed the broken mechanic, they didn't change it. You're supposed to have to figure out when to go instead of just button mashing to get it every time.

Did some racing last night and didn't get a boost on a few occasions, all because I was constantly smashing the trigger. Previously, all you had to do was press the right trigger at the right moment, regardless of whether you were spamming the trigger or not. Now it seems if you spam the trigger during the 3-2-1 countdown and then press the RT even if it's at the right moment, you won't get the boost. I should've clarified - if you just rev your engine and hold the trigger down in place, and then release it / release it slightly and press it all the way on "GO", then it works the same as it has for years. Otherwise, it's been changed. I guess only "hardcore racers" will notice it. I'll upload a video a bit later on, hopefully. Why would anyone do it? Well I guess to shoot flames from their vehicle's exhausts over and over and / or to increase the turbo pressure in the vehicle for better acceleration. Okay, so that can only really be said for a car like the Ocelot Swinger, but it's still somewhat relevant. Edited August 14, 2021 by Gaffa

The whole point of the turbo start is that you need to be consistent enough to hit it every time when the timer runs out. Tapping the accelerator bypassed needing to time it properly so anyone who didn't know this was at a disadvantage. It was never intended to work this easily from the start. Well I'm not about to start praising the company for supposedly "fixing" something that was "broken" - for 6 years... It was never an issue previously and the general consensus is "not to mess with older stuff in case it causes unfixable bugs" or whatever, so it's a bizarre thing to do. If that's true, it highlights more failings of the company and their inability to get issues sorted in a timely manner and further reinforces the idea that their practices are often built upon strange and often illogical priorities.
