GTA 5 PC Performance (Shadows)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Brand new to the forums and first time posting so apologies if this may have been covered in other posts some time ago.

I have a pretty powerful rig: 16GB Corsair dominator @ 3200 MHz, i5 10600K (factory settings), Asus ROG Strix 3080Ti and I'm playing on an Asus Predator 4k monitor @ 120 Hz

The only performance issue I can't seem to figure out is shadows, more specifically in the day time when it's bright). I have all settings at max and I've tried playing around with all of the shadow softening settings, as well as the various anti aliasing settings.

But when I'm moving around all of the shadows just flicker like crazy (or for those that may interpret that word wrongly, they almost vibrate slightly but very rapidly). If anyone can offer any guidance on how I can get round this it woulkd be most appreciated. It pretty much ruins the experience for me atm and can actually hurt my eyes after a while.

I was hoping the next gen updates might solve this but from what I've read I don;t think they've been confirmed as coming tro PC yet? Please correct me if I'm wrong 😃

Thanks in advance community.

Have you tried reducing the refreshrate of your monitor?

120 HZ is a really buggy thing, if connected via HDMI 2.1, i keep having problems with it, i got a ASUS TUF GAMING RTX 3080 OC, that is connected to a LG B9 (2160p, 120 HZ, G-Sync), i get these weird issues where sometimes the "handshake" doesn't work right, and because of that the picture gets blurry af, but after restarting the TV it works fine again.

I don't know what exactly your monitor is, but maybe there is a problem somehow.

I use these settings 2160p, 120 HZ, all ultra except grass that is on high, softest shadows, no antialiasing, in advanced options all distance sliders on 0, and long shadows activated, and high resolution shadows are off. For me it works perfectly fine like this. There is always some aliasing but it's okay, i don't get any weird "vibrating" shadows or something.

Or maybe you use some Reshade or mods or something?

In every other game everything is fine?

It's just the game.

Best thing I've done is put windows on high power settings at 100%, which I only use for some games, and increase gta v priority to high 8n task manager. This seems to solve most issues. I've been doing that since 2016... It's just a pretty lazy PC port.
