Did DLSS break Eagle Eye or was it something else like weather?

One of the nicest features of Eagle Eye was that you could use it to locate animals in difficult conditions like night, heavy forest or fog.  But some time ago (maybe a month?) it stopped working.

Was it the DLSS changes that caused it?  The introduction of weather events like heavy fog (often black - who ever heard of black fog)?  Or maybe something else?

Do we know if R* has plans to fix the mess they caused with Eagle Eye?  Or is this likely to be yet another bug/glitch that will go unsolved for years?

---

On a similar matter, a few days ago the radar blips for enemies started disappearing from the mini-map.  Similar questions... what happened?

Eagle eye and enemy blips have been working fine for me, at least they were a few days ago.

Working fine here. Mine was off but I turned "NVIDIA DLSS" setting is set now to "Quality". I also restarted the game then to be sure it was on. Does turning it off fix it for you?

But yeah it is also working fine here. I see trails, gators, ..ooh là a froggy.. eatin a herptile mcmuffin this morn!

But it seems you might establish this yourself does disabling DLSS fix the issue? And is it online only, you might reach also the offline users more in the help thread, just a thought

Will try disabling DLSS... my card is a classic 1080 so I don't think it supports it anyway.

I just did the Annesburg opportunity on Ruthless and it was a total nightmare without the mini-map dots.  Beat it anyway, but it took a bunch of tries to identify where the enemy was.

I play on xbox, but I had switched my input to "game mode" on my TV to play baseball and forgot to switch it back to vivid.  I spent hours trying to tweak the settings before I realized what the issue was.

Same thing, Eagle eye seemed to be broken.

Eagle Eye working on XB1 for myself. I have noticed fog is now very serious fog, and Eagle Eye sometimes worsens my view.

I use a 1080 and didn’t change any settings cuz I didn’t know I needed to. Hope it works for you.

Looks like it was not DLSS, I don't even see the option in the settings.

I just read that in fact DLSS is for RTX cards only so a GTX 1080, perhaps it is not even exposed. But it was labeled "NVIDIA DLSS" in Graphics Options for me.

Why are we talking of DLSS, why did you mention it to begin with and put it in the title? :)

Find commonalities with other affected users. Try launching it in the safe mode. If it works in safe mode then either one at a time or in bulk and via a binary search, ferret out which option it is.

Does dead eye work? Also try with the keyboard for example I think the default is that caps lock or a middle click, to rule out controller settings. That kind of thing

I mentioned DLSS as some of the issues started roughly with that patch. Based on the responses it very much seems that DLSS itself has nothingto do with it, but it could be other changes about that time that caused the issues.

To summarize the most notable *recent* problems:

- Eagle Eye fails to highlight most animals.  Some do get highlighted, but they are maybe 20% of the animals you can see.

- There are times when enemies do not show on the radar map.   I definitely noticed it during a Ruthless opportunity, so it could be intentional and related to that... but I would swear I did not see the issue on Ruthless emerald opportunity and I saw it happen outside of opportunities too.   The leakage outside of opportunities makes me wonder whether they even intended it at all.

- DeadEye is also broken most of the time, failing to lock onto targets when you activate it and mouse over them.

- I wasn't including it in the thread, but I agree that fog is broken too... not due to a technical flaw but just badly designed.   Fog is never that obscuring in real life, it is most certainly white and not black, and it would never happen in ultra-dry environments like the desert.  And enemies should not be able to see through it just like they should not see through foliage.  So, it is just bad design even if it is annoying and severely immersion breaking.  So... not really part of the discussion related to recent technical problems and whether they are "by design" (good or bad) or by mistake.

Trust me, when I drove a truck I ran into fog so dense I literally could not see the very front portion of the hood, much less the road. I don’t mind it in-game but the frequency definitely needs to be toned down.

I have been in a few places in the world where I had that kind of fog - white - and as you say you could not see far from the hood.  But it is rare even in those locations where fog is common.  In a desert?!!! No way!

If they want to be realistic then fog should happen in about 20% of locations and maybe 10-20% of the time.  Not every day for at least 1/3 of the day as it does today.

But I fail... fog as annoying as it is.. is not the topic of the thread.

Does the fog extend up to like rathskeller fork or just near the river? I never thought about it but in our compressed country if they did not compress those calculations then most of new austin may effectively be a coastal desert. I dunno. That's cool to think about. It is more and more frustrating over time to wonder why this company that controls this does not also find that fascinating!

Did the eagle eye bug still happen in safe mode

They are unable to place a weather event in specific areas. What's happening in one part happens everywhere. That's why it only rains in the snowy mountains and never snows, even in 10 degree weather. If they did add snow it would snow everywhere.

The simplest fix would be to reduce the frequency of those annoying and immersion-breking events.   Once per real-life day should be more than enough.

I agree.
