Losing profit after upgrading cocaine staff

Seen a fair few questions like this, have had my mc businesses and bunker for over a year but I've never used them until yesterday, besides for nightclub cargo.
 Before i upgraded (only) staff in my coke business today, i think i would make like 50k profit around that and somehow I'm now making a 3k loss. And yes i was buying supplies not stealing, and selling to los santos. I also know you need to also upgrade equipment to be making the most profit, but i still don't see how I'm now making a loss.
So my question is, how am i now losing money after upgrading my staff, i thought it did the opposite? Does this have anything to do with also running it through a nightclub, is this just some sort of glitch or R* being dumb?
Similar thing is happening with my bunker, last night i was making maybe like 15k profit, but today i only broke even. havent upgraded anything in it yet.

You should have upgraded the equipment first, not the staff.

 

Staff only makes you produce faster, not more efficient. (supplies used per unit of product)

 

Even without staff upgrade, equipment upgrade will make it more efficient and profitable to buy supplies.
