This is just sad.

Don't think there's ever been or ever will be a more appropriate time to use this...

Weren't they talking in their meme E3 presentation about how they were "investing in youth, promoting young game developers"? What a joke.

the picture's better nerd

This can't fly under the radar. Rockstar Games has to come clear on the subject - if they're not interested in modding anymore they should just say it and the community should move on. If the huge volume of players (for instance, FiveM's player base) leaves it'll hit hard and they'll learn from the mistakes.

Really weird considering that these mods were available to download for years. It can't be for nothing. I would put my bet on 3D era remakes. It wouldn't make sense in a way though cause they definitely aren't keeping the old maps for these remakes. So the old maps shouldn't really affect the remade games in any way.

Either way though, I'm sure backups of these mods will start rising on the internet soon.

Good move, Take two, really helps getting one of the biggest modding communities against you...

This along with microtransactions are what took the respect away long ago

Rip the Rockstar games we knew.

this is seriously unacceptable, some of these mods existed for more than a decade , just f*cking stop already, people putted a lot of efforts in these projects, even if there's a low sh*tty quality remakes in the development

I was hoping there'd be a better reason for me to crawl out of my cave and return to the forums, but here we are. I found out about this earlier today thanks to @dkluin's report, and later on got some deeper insight about it thanks to @Ash_735.

This is so, so wrong. Just like that, half of our modding scene gone, with a single snap of corproate fingers. I am shocked, disgusted and heartbroken, seeing so many projects taken down one by one, erased from existence. All the passion, all the hard work our talented modders put into them, all gone with no trace.

Respect to Ash, Vanillaworks and @Silent for highlighting this travesty on Twitter, by the way. Hopefully we'll gain some attention from pundits and media outlets.

I'm done with anything even remotely related to Take Two. Never gonna buy a thing from these corporate f*cks (I was already boycotting 2K for few years, so may as well go all the way now).

Cortana, play Ministry's Thieves.

Of all the scummy business practices that Take-Two pulled, this is probably in the top 5. This moment is like a major hate crime against the GTA modding community. Taking down re3 and reVC was bad enough, but this is the last straw. You don't see Bethesda doing this kind of sh*t with Doom mods, or EA with mods for Need for Speed games, like NFS Carbon Battle Royale and NFS Most Wanted: Pepega Edition!

I shall therefore dub this moment the GTAgate scandal.

Hopefully GTANet and the other major GTA websites/people make some posts or articles to raise awareness against this unacceptable sh*t Take Two & Rockstar have been pulling.

Maybe some bigger websites will then pick up the story and a sh*tstorm will follow.

We changed their minds once, we can do it again. As long as people prefer the modding community's integrity over special merchandise and other special benefits.

At around minute 35 when their presentation started, they were talking about investing in youth.

So they’re just banning ports/remasters? (Granted it’s hard to find original non port or remaster map mods but still I don’t hear anything about them taking down gostown)

A completely pointless move, but you know Take-Two's new face since the remastered GTA V's Online days. They don't care about their games' communities/fandoms/etc. They only care about money. That's the dark side of capitalism for you.

NOW, SHUT THE HELL UP WITH YOUR MODS, GO BUY MORE SHARK CARDS! MY BREAKFAST IN A LUXURY RESTAURANT WON'T PAY ITSELF.

just look at the dislikes, oh god

Take2dicks at it again trying to stop the modding community, why? they clearly can see that many people are having a blast playing with mods, unlike their boring garbage GTAO that's made to target kiddos that spend the night crying begging their folks to buy them a sharkcard so they can roll around LS with a dollar sign rim and flying bikes. Now regardless of what their real reason is if it was to ban mods for maps that they want to bring back or simply so to try to turn people into playing Online, it all ends up as eliminating the competition.

Have a play time of 3500+ hours on GTAV and that's because of mods and not because of vanilla game, would have probably had a play time of 300 and that's it if it wasn't for mods.

And don't say "Rockstar is innocent", they are not, T2 is doing this with the blessing of Rockstar and for those who truly know Rockstar and aren't fanboys know that Rockstar are no fans of mods and always place the PC community at the bottom, other companies give you modding tools for their games and release the PC version alongside the consoles and what does Rockstar and Take2dicks do? always deliberately hold off the PC version for last, create scripts that remove new Online content in SP, ban and send threats to modders that work hours and hours to share their work for free so people can simply enjoy without having to use their damn mastercard whenever something new shows up.

Oh, NO! They removed ViceCry which was for the original ViceCity game, and was truly NOT a port for any other GTA game?!? I liked this conversion and have it installed, but now - NO ONE have permission do play it at all anymore.

I still can't accept when T2 had completely blocked OpenIV's team from releasing their GTA IV map for GTA V! No one could enjoy this because that conversion got NO SINGLE RELEASE available, they left us with the OpenIV's teaser screenshots from the conversion only, nothing else! 🤧

I don't know about how Rockstar were before the Hot-Coffee mod fiasco but it very much makes they became hostile towards modders after it.

I don't know about Rockstar explicitly, but DMA actually released some of their tools for the 2D games for the community to toy with! Rockstar even messed around with modders own tools for GTA3 on things such as carcols, handling, etc during the development of Vice City, if I recall correctly.
