Kwyn
Can someone please help me figure out how to change the controls for the helicopter? With the way the helicopter is set up, you need two hands on the keyboard. I suppose you might be able to move the numpad controls to the regular keyboard, but it would be a ton of work for that left hand. The reason is that you can't move the helicopter firing option from the mouse. The default is right mouse button and for the life of me I can't find out how to change it to a key. The controls and flying in general are such a mess with the helicopters that it just seems assinine that they would force you to use rmb while also having you use the left side of the keyboard and the numpad simultaneously. Please tell me what I'm missing.
spike228
uhh i don't understand what your problem is but if your keys are too difficult then try to remap them to the keys i have: lean forward: num 8 lean backward: num 5 look left + left turret: num 4 look right + right turret: num 6 and for the fire button it is num 0 by default. Kwyn
num 0 is not fire in a helicopter. At least it's not in the default. the only way I can get the cannon to fire in a helicopter is rmb. I actually tried every single key except for f. I tried with both the sea sparrow and the hunter.
Oblivious
Do you have a joystick? If so, it's likely already mapped to flight controls, and if you have enough buttons, you can map the rudder & throttle controls to it. I know it's sure alot easier to fly with the joystick than awkwardly using 8 keys on the keyboard!
NastyEmu
Here is the config that I use, but it will only work if you have a button on the side of your mouse where the thumb rests. RMB: lean back thumb button: lean forward LMB: fire the keys for look left/look right will rotate the heli the keys for left and right tilt it the forward and backward keys control thrust This way, you never have to move your hands off the mouse or to a different part of the keyboard. It also becomes pretty easy to fly after just a little practice. I hope this helps somebody.
tjbpl
You guys are forgeting about ascend and descend keys. I dont know about you guys, but just leaning forward, I'll eventually plummet to the ground. Although Im in that big commercial helicopter, I havent tried the other ones so maybe its just that one? (doubt it) tj

TERMINATOR
Ok here is my configuration and it works great for me. Also remember that the “Sprint” key is the key that must be remapped for firing the helicopter guns with the exception of the hunter’s missles. I use the numberpad and map it as I do in all my first person shooters. That is 7 strafe left 8 forward/ ascend 9 strafe right 4 turn left 5 target 6 turn right 1 look left/rotate heli left 2 back/ descend 3 look right/ rotate heli right + Jump enter Crouch 0 sprint/fire heli guns delete fire guns/missles on hunter I also map turret controls to the arrow buttons as well. this still leaves the / * and – buttons for other functions the strafe buttons are configured as left and right, but on the number pad 4 and 6 always turn instead of stafe so you have to add secondary left and right buttons to strafe in walking mode. Then my optical mouse turns and looks up and down for aiming and my left mouse button fires and my right enters vehicles and my scroll changes weapons and radio stations. I also use the analog stick in conjunction with my keypad for helicopter flight. I ascend descend and rotate with the keypad, and I tilt left right forwards and backwards with my analog stick on my Logitech cordless gamepad. I just put the gamepad between the mouse and the keyboard and switch to it when flying.
Vetinari
Just posted this in another thread - hadn't seen this one. I noticed the button you've mapped to sound the horn in cars, will bring you to a standstill in a helicopter. You'll still have to deal with altitude manually, but hitting your horn will make the copter stop moving pretty fast (hover, basically). It's loads faster than farting around with countertrust until you've stopped moving. It's quite handy in a dive when you notice you're going too fast to pull up in time to avoid crashing into buildings, etc. On the same subject: how do you do a stoppie on a motorcycle, using the keyboard? All i found on some fansites was a lot of PS2 garble about "push square circle L2 blabla" (can't they use the key functions grmbl)... Thx in advance
Vicetopia
What's the key bind for the gun in the heli? I know how to shoot the rockets, but how do you use the gun if you can?
Vetinari
What's the key bind for the gun in the heli? I know how to shoot the rockets, but how do you use the gun if you can? For me the hunter gun works when pressing the left control which (in my keyconfig) is the handbrake for cars and the crouch when walking around. Im guessing it'll react to the handbrake button, since it's a vehicle.
