RDO Speculation & General Chat (Part II)

Aye, so it does look like they're decoupling RDO from RDR2 a bit more cleanly, so you'll download RDO specific depots only if you own RDO Standalone only. I'd say that's much better than the original solution and I'd expect we're seeing a patch for that soon, maybe with some news? (not guaranteed, but at least patch notes hopefully :p)

Qabeta2 & 3 remains out of date, which usually are the main branches to indicate new DLC

Having the depots separate however means that RDO could get qabeta updates that RDR2 doesn't though. Because they'd be working on completely different depots. I wonder what the plan is for the full game, I'm assuming keep as-is, but it'll have to be updated too to accommodate for the changes in RDO Standalone, I reckon? Them doing this kind of spring cleaning definitely doesn't make it look like the game is "dead" as many are saying to me (just IMO)...

I hope that's case, I was really disappointed when I bought standalone RDO only to find out it was still ~100 GB.

You are missing the best part of the game, the story.

So what happens if you own the full game but only want to download the online portion? Will there be an option/pop-up box for that on Steam or something?

I played it back in 2018 (got the platinum as well) I just wanted to get the online to save storage space.

Many aren't saying the game is going to die in the sense that it will no longer remain playable, as I wholly believe that R* will keep the servers up as long as they can sell the game to new people. Even the original RDR online servers are still open and playable.

But rather in the sense of how the game was delivered to us in the beginning, all of the great things they said that we would be doing and have not even tapped into, that part of the game is dead for me. And I also believe it's that same way for many others as well.

R* has failed tremendously with RDO, how they could fall so far with all of the resources they have is beyond me?

Take for example Neverwinter, my daughter is playing that game more often and not only did they do a big update to the game that changed much of how levels were perceived. But they also update it with new adventures, events, and other stuff to do quite often. There are also perks that the developers give the entire player base that might be fleeting but are still a sort of "thank you" for playing that I can get behind.

I do not know the difference as to why the developers of that game are so much more supportive of their game than R* is with RDO, but they aren't the only studios that are like that?

Still wondering if they finish RDR1 Definitive (Well might not be definitive like the trilogy...) It will have Mexico, maybe they could convert that new map saving time to bring it to RDR2, might bring back the players? Still a shame we're not ever going to get a statement saying it's dead for sure, I thought GTA was discontinued for awhile back in the day then surprise surprise. But ya properties or map expansion may revitalize enough if there's still something eventually.

I'm pretty sure they'll address or announce something regarding Red Dead this year.

As per speculating what they could do next, I believe it could be another next set of batch missions or role that would introduce new things in the game like owning a house, robbing banks, or cattle rustling.

I've been playing single player so I'm trying to come up what things they can bring over that they have already done.  Horse selling with those Davies twins probably.  But of course that's boring lol.

As per trying to speculate if next update will be a huge update that they can bring in the table,  Mexico would be my bet.  Hoping it is.  Since 2018.

I get what people are saying about adding Mexico to RDO but it's not as simple as just adding the map. They would need to completely redo the pathfinding, add new Quest givers, add new Quests, incorporate the recurring Roles like animals spawns, Bounty spawns, campsites etc. It would be an almost entirely new game. Too much work for a free update.

People would not be happy with a generic map with no Quests etc.

There are many many things this game needs before a map expansion.

Mexico has always been on the table, or at least in the beginning.  If you've been there it's all landscaped, there's weather, even fish. If they weren't planning to open it up, they could have left it all baron except for the shoreline.  Not sure, but they have probably abandoned the idea if they ever had one.

It's not like they haven't had time to do it.  They have literally had all of 2020 and 2021 to do something and didn't.  I used to defend them in saying that the pandemic probably hit their ability to develop and deliver - but that's not what is being claimed by company leaders in the recent investors call.  They said it had a little impact, but overall they are able to meet most deadlines.

But you're right, there game needs many things but it has received f*ck-all since Naturalist.  We got a BH expansion - which is bare minimum in my book, and Blood Money.  And BM is such a disappointment because it seemingly sets you up for future big stuff - but all it is a 4th currency to specifically buy big missions, and you have to grind the hell out of the basic missions to get enough to just do a low-payout big mission.  They seriously do not respect our time with this game.

This.

3 years at camp outdoors is long enough for me personally. I’ll even be a nice person and allow Cripps to have his own room and still live with me.

Mexico mini DLC:

1. Small villages along Mexico's, San Luis River, shoreline. Villages will have the same amenities as Tumbleweed or Van Horn, shops, poker, etc.

2. Prestige-Call to Arms at El Presidio and the new villages. Using the high/low honor mechanism, protect the town or raid the town as bandits.

3. Outlaw (Passport)

Del Lobo Outfits, clothes, accessories, horses, boats, canoes, wagons and quality of life items.

It's not about time, it's about expense vs what they will get back. Adding an entirely new map and all the stuff it needs is not viable for a free update unless they charge you like a hundred Gold to "cross the border" to get people to buy Gold.

Mexico has pretty much the same animals as New Austin and they can just make more Del Lobo spawns

Ard they actually splitting online from story?

If so, that'll give them a way to remarket the game and with any luck, this 3rd time will be the charm and they actually press on with updating the game.

Just hope they add requested content and features to give it some longevity this time. But it is crazy to see R* needing a 3rd time to remarket a game that could easily have been huge had they fone right and listened like they said from day one. 🤣

Yes but the animals are not randomly spawned, they are hand placed which is why animals spawn in the same locations each time. Yes, they wander, but their original spawns will always be the same. They would also need to record a multitude of Spanish NPC chatter and lines for Bounties, why would Mexican NPC's be speaking English?

It also allows them to keep the MP updates away from SP so people stoip asking why MP stuff is not in SP.

If it also drops the install size then I am all for it, dropping the SP mode so all SP voice lines etc are gone would drastically lower the file size.

Which wouldn't solve their problem because they've put nothing out there for people to spend gold on anyways.  Hence why they're not making anything from mtx on this game.  If they want mtx to work with their "2 currency" economy, they needed to keep up with the content.  They didn't.

I totally get what you're saying.  The main theme of this: what have they been doing for 2 years?!?"  because it's obvious they haven't made nearly enough for the game for anyone to spend gold on.  They *could* have gotten something back for their work, if they actually did the work.

Luckily I'm not scrapping for storage space as I don't play too many games at a time and my internet is good for reinstalling etc. But it is a huge game and can only get bigger if R* bring more so I'm sure many would love it to be as small as possible by removing the unplayed/unwanted story as it's too much for a casual game for those that like a wider selection on their machines. :)

Yeah, GTA I can understand since teenagers play it and they're primarily the ones that just activate Online straight away without playing SP. And even then there was actually stuff you could do with friends during the 2013 era. You could rob stores, do missions, race, car shows and now you can do so much more!

Not really a reason to play with friends on this one, nothing to do with them...

But what i never understood is why they made guarma inaccessible. You can still go out of map everywhere but as soon as you enter the detailed area of guarma you will be teleported back to Saint Denis. Does it hurt anyone rockstar? Do you lose money because of it? Just make a fast travel point there even if there is nothing to do you can still just chill there or just add 1-2 stranger mission, 1-2 treasure chests, legendary animals and done. They can probably do it in 2 days but why bother right? :modkek:

This is quite an interesting one. All those things you listed you can do bar rob stores. Do missions as a posse, race horses together, have “horse meets”. In retrospect it kinda shows what we have when GTA was starting out vs what they have now and what we have. I also noticed since my time owning RDO I get zero friend requests (in or after jobs) compared to GTAO. The social aspect and desire to play with others seems lost here through a variety of reasons, and despite playing ‘Lone Ranger’ myself it does kinda feel like a mirror world next to GTA.

In terms of the exception, this is probably one of the fundamental flaws Rockstar overlooked at the start. We’re outlaws right? But we can’t do the bare minimum thing outlaws would do. The first thing I did in 2013 was rob liquor stores back to back, the random chance a player or npc would spawn in to try stop you was fun. Were there convenience store glitches in GTAO circa 2013? Because I don’t remember any. That would be the only reason (that and selling horses) I could see for them not implementing such features (butcher sell glitch comes to mind), because I’m sure fixing game exploits costs irl money to coders, and we all can bare witness to god mode / OTR still existing and to no one giving a damn about em. Be easier to just turn off game features than use existing ones players might find bugs / exploits with.

The updates for standalone have me slightly confused though. The standalone has the option to purchase Story from within the main menu. Are these specific changes to remove Story code, then add it later if someone chooses to make a Story purchase? For those who own the standalone and the Story together, how will these be divided if the code is planning on being stripped out?

I remember when starting out in GTAO I meet my first friend in a Survival. Here in RDO it is harder to find friends who like to do the same as you, where GTAO is more social friendly whit more matchmakers.

And whit a small lobby size of 14 its hard to find anyone who like to do what you like!
