On console it is harder to track current players so I thought achievements was best one to track! I wish tho that R* had one for level 100!

They've always been iffy to track sales numbers for various reasons, but if a game has been part of a giveaway or on a subscription service those numbers are usually f*cked.

Good example is one of the guys behind Days Gone who has since left the studio was shouting about the game selling 8 million copies but got neglected by Sony, only for it later to come out he sourced those numbers from an achievement tracking website. The issue with that is the game has been given away as part of PS+, has been on PS Now and is part of the PS Plus Collection, so there's literally no way to tell how many players the game has actually sold.

We're not talking sale figures with RDO of course, but the diluted numbers due to being on various services still has an impact. More people will try it including those with zero interest in the game, simply cause it's part of their subscription, and there's some who won't buy the game once the game leaves the service, for what could be various reasons. Hard to really draw any solid conclusions from it all pretty much.

So true! I know from personal experience when a game is free I don´t tend to be that much interested in it unless I got friends on. That why I tended to look on achievements you get later on in online!

That is so absurd when they can just look on profit and do some math to see how many units they sold!

I wonder when or if Rockstar will comment on the current situation.

It'll probably be some generic pr statement like "We are thrilled to see how much fan enthusiasm there is for Red Dead Online and we will continue to focus on ways to improve and support it for the foreseeable future"  with no further details on how they are actually going to do that.

God, I hope so. They'll just add more fuel to the fire which is exactly what we need right now. We're already pretty riled up, so if they go this route it will make things even worse than before.

Mick Mellamphy, who plays Sean McGuire, has been liking posts on Twitter related to #SaveRedDeadOnline. The cast is aware of it now, it seems.

Edit: Mick Mellamphy also plays Sean in Red Dead Online, meaning he probably knows what's going on behind the scenes. And if so, this implies very troubling news regarding the team working on this game.

lol Rockstar ain’t going to acknowledge anything. Are people not aware how Rockstar operate by now? The trilogy they had no choice but to say something because the problems were actually affecting peoples ability to play the game they had paid for.

Hopefully if they tweet GTA:O's weekly stuff, people really go nuts. Would be saying something if it's business as usual and we get the GTA info without a word at all about the RDRO controversy.

Not in any way aimed personally at staff directly, just R* in general. No need to go there with it all of course, we're better than that, we've got to be better than that at least. But hopefully folk can get more notice then if nothing happens before.

Though I will say there’s a slight chance they will just drop heists or summit massive in the summer out the blue and we’ll all be sat here looking a bit daft lol. Or they are planning on releasing the next gen version and are waiting for that? Unlikely I know.

Hence - communication. How hard can it be to say: Here's the plan...

To be fair, damn near impossible if there simply isn't one. 🤣🤣

I wish we could encourage them to embrace the fans far more instead of just chasing the next new batch of players. But they're current silence is proving every doubter right that this game is simply done for.

As for the little kids palava, @CaliMeatWagon is proving that it's clearly adults that are playing GTA:O with this thread too...

Not that I'm gonna try denying kids love their GTA too of course, nor that I feel there is even a problem if kids do play. Never cared myself as my mic has a mute button, lol.

That said, I've met plenty that play better than the crazy so called adults out there. 🤣🤣🤠

It just easier to blame it on "the kids" then to realize that it is people in your age group that are causing you problems.

And I wish I could remember who said it, but "GTA is a game about middle aged men, made by middle aged men, for middle aged men."
The youngest main character is Franklin, and he is a millennial. All the other characters are Gen X.
The only Zoomers are Michael's kids, and look at how they were created/viewed.
Then look at all the "meme" vehicles. They are all from TV shows that came out during the 60's, 70's, and 80's.
This game wasn't designed for kids.

If the rumors about them working on a remake of RDR 1 and a next gen version of RDR 2 this whole time are true, then I kind of understand why RDO got the short end of the stick these past 2 years. Coupled with the other rumors that state GTA 6 is in development hell, diverting resources from the RDO team into fixing the whole GTA trilogy mess, the pandemic, and possibly working on all other manner of projects, you sort of start to understand why Rockstar is in this situation.

Still doesn't excuse their lack of communication, but it certainly would alleviate how we view this game as being neglected by Rockstar. Only if the rumors are true, that is. If it comes out that Rockstar/T2 have just been taking it easy and deliberately being lazy with this game, then the wrath of the entire community is very much justified, and then some.

Still not buying that the batmobile is partly inspired by Nolan's flicks I see, lol. Though I agree it's just easier to blame the kids.

Kidding aside, games are just made for gamers, whatever the age. I can agree the stories R* create probably appeal to adults more but the online modes of both GTA:O and RDRO are made for all ages really, it's just shooting, flying, driving. Just too much childish crap to say otherwise really with stuff like the aforementioned meme toys or the likes of top trumps cards etc.

But alas, let's not debate the unimportant stuff and concentrate on the key issue of calling R*/T2 out over their current silence/lack of plans etc. Kids and adults play, kids and adults buy cards/gold was more my point when I quoted your thread there really, no one demographic is to blame more than the others and it is what it is.

I'm sure we all just want the games to thrive and we should come together more over this current wave of disappointments in hope we can push for better. R* relish any division un their playerbases so we need to beat them at their own shenanigans. :)

Yeah R*s silent approach worked in the past when they were regularly releasing new games, once GTAV hit their release output slowed to a halt, the type of release output that does not work well with silence. They really need to re-evaluate their lack of communication with the communities that play their games because this is getting old.

Red Dead Redemption 2, was the only title. Rockstar made for last gen - SMH

And GTA VI is only rumoured to be the only game they'll be releasing for the current gen.. so they'll be milking GTA V / Online for a couple more years, this is why I don't understand them not wanting to get the best out of RDO if this is true since they'll have two revenue streams until such time they're able to finish GTA VI.... but obviously GTA Online makes them enough to only focus on having one revenue stream with a little top up from RDO...

do you mean gta 6? because gta 4 was released over ten years ago.

i could understand the silence from the info droughts before a new game. like the info droughts we suffered for gta 5 and rdr2. but at least we knew a new game was coming soon. it was easier to be patient because at the very least we had a new game coming. with this situation. no new games have been announced. i know the gta 5 e&e is coming soon but its just another re release. i would love to be able to know what the next game is and get a trailer for it. rockstar really needs to do better than this stupid silent treatment. we are huge fans of their games. and we have been loyal. and what do we get? a middle finger to the face.

Skipping out on a newswire today I guess 😂

They haven't updated the Social Club Events page either and they usually do even before the Newswire so I don't think it's related, they're just late. They were tweeting out snaps normally yesterday as well so... They'd probably still post it on the Newswire even if they hypothetically wouldn't tweet.

Why would you expect one. The one last week said 4 weeks.

You'll get a new one in February.
