XB1/PS4 GTAO char creator is actually pretty good fundamentally, just limited in variety and the body for both male and female being rubbish doesn't help either.What I mean by that is GTAO's options to edit the face, the amount of sliders, etc, is better, but the lack of variety in stock faces to blend together is poor, especially as many are what I can only assume are intentionally ugly caricatures.

 

RDO's char creator was IMO a step back fundamentally, but a step forward in variety. Better stock faces, different body types, etc, but less slider options to really customise your characters face.

I agree I think the GTAO character creator is very good, there's a lot of options there too for things like eyebrows, makeup types etc. One thing I will say about GTAO though is the female models. They're too tall, the shoulders are way too broad and masculine + the skin textures on both male/female look like sandpaper. I was hoping they'd fix these issues and update the models in the enhanced version this year but from what I saw in the trailer, they look exactly the same

In heels my girl towers over the male characters . This can be hilarious when my daughter, who's female character is meant to be cute and sweet, tends to make my male character look so small.  

 

I am going to be somewhat brutally honest in saying that many of these games have not so great character customization. Lol, sometimes I wished they were connected to a Z Brush type program so I could sculpt the face myself instead of relying on the structure of a base that is just a potato.

Oh yeah I completely avoid the high heels in GTA Online because they make you freakishly tall haha but at least Rockstar corrected this in RDO because the female models are wayyyy better

Totally. Plus the pseudo roleplay I can have with being one of Misty’s daughters really solidifies my investment to an online character I enjoy. My buddy has Niko as a parent too, and while wildly chancy he’s ever had a child he knows about, my friend is fully invested in his character as I am with mine. He looks like he came right off the back of a Norwegian black metal tour or something. He has really sharp distinctive features.

 

If the parent system wasn’t a thing I’d probably only feel half as invested as I do in GTAO. I got the ultimate edition just for the exclusive parentages so I feel more is always better. RDO’s presets are so terrible for me though, because the only ones you ever see used are heritage 3 for females (that unmistakable square jawed one) because “it’s the prettiest”, and heritage 11 for males because “it’s the manliest”. Seeing everyone use the same presets tells me the creator is inherently bad, regardless of limited sliders. You can MAKE it work, sure, but in the end will just force everyone to look like some clone or twin brother or sister because there was such a limited choice of options people couldn’t be bothered to move.

 

I know I mentioned having Misty as a “parent” in GTAO and she clearly has a preset with unmistakable features. You have to really work hard to make anything non-resembling to hide any of the obvious base structure. Ironically my slider for parent resemblance is knocked all the way to the feminine side, so I know full well the creator could do with some updates. The only redeeming feature of Claude on my female character is the bridge of her nose (for those unaware it’s kind of a noticeable squint). This is really cool for me. This is difficult to express but for me personally, if I got to pick exactly what I wanted it would make everything else seem less important. Everyone just picks the most attractive thing to out-glamorize or outplay others in every virtual world and while I have nothing wrong with this, when I see it on the same preset, barely modified to “appear” pretty, in reality they’re proving the complete opposite.

 

The amount of sliders on GTAO’s character creation is miles better for me, but RDO’s character creation has a much richer and dynamic tone, such as gaining bruises, cuts and visible fatigue. They’re also fairly era appropriate too if you know what you’re doing. You have to APPLY fatigue in the creator on GTAO and it isn’t dynamic at all. While I really appreciate the ‘build’ section, I don’t particularly like the fact weight is attributed to butt or boob size. Plenty of skinny women can have a great rack and obese women can just as easily have a flat face, wide shoulders or club feet. Just look at any of working girls in the saloons. GTAO has this issue too, and while both games models don’t annoy me greatly, the options to NOT tweak them show there need to be, because there’s too many clones really showcasing the lack of originality users have in trying to make something unique.

It was fun and exciting during November 2018 - March 2020 but that's it. It's over. The devs and managers are low IQ lumpen.

 

At least I hope they learned from it for the next version of GTA Online (they probably haven't).

It appears that the last of the people with the imagination that created these worlds have left the company.

To the people wondering what Houser's leaving in 2020 (and those who left earlier) meant for the future I guess we now know. 

Forced out or just fed up, who knows, but the results are the same: creative bankruptcy.

We told them what we want, it's no mystery, and yet...we get more low effort crap...or nothing at all. (excepting that the CtA mode is actually pretty decent, but only derived from GTA survivals)

i hate to say it but unless they have big plans to liven up this game. then it probably would be better to put it out of its misery. i really hoped it would be a good game. and the story mode is amazing. but multiplayer did not do as good. they wanted it to be a wild west gta online. but its just not as good. i hope that the game will be revived. but i feel like every week that they dont announce anything. just makes the game even more dead. the saddest part is there are no other new wild west games coming out. we need a new call of juarez. or an assassins creed in the wild west. some kind of western game to enjoy. while we wait a decade for the next red dead.

I can say that there are many reasons why RDO is not as popular as GTAO, but it is definitely popular enough to stand on it's own if it was just given better treatment.

They just don't seem to care, so why should we? I hate being so pessimistic, and I would rather be here on these forums joking around and talking about positive things but this game is just so depressing to me. It's really hard to even faux optimism anymore.

Lol, saying that I was invested in my characters would be an understatement. I literally recreated my RDO character in a 3D program so that I could make fan art with him, I even write small stories about his adventures now and then when I get the creative push to do so. Not so much my GTA character, although I am beginning to make a story about him, he's just a modern character and I am a huge Western/Fantasy type person so it's a little harder for me to get him started is all. 

It's cool that you are using the characters in the ancestry in your character storylines though, I might have to look and see who I chose as well, maybe that will help me get my boy started right.

Is there a way to look that up?

Normally at this time we would be a couple hours away from a new event but for some odd reason, R* decided to carry the bonuses of this month long festive event through Wednesday, so now we have new events for both GTAO and RDO on the same day this week

I don't recall the name of the guy, but a Rockstar dev, according to his resume, worked on RDR1 then went to work on The Last of Us and then came back to R* to work on RDR2. That's only one story so imagine how many of this type of incidents do take place all the time but we simply don't get to know or pay attention about them. Bruce Straley left Naughty Dog back in 2017, after 18 years of working there, that didn't change things a bit at ND and their next game was both a critical and commercial success. Rockstar is a 2500+ man company. They'll be fine, especially on the tech side.
