I sometimes wonder why Rockstar even bothered developing RDO if they knew they would neglect it and prioritize milking GTAO over it.

From what we know about Sam that statement isn't remotely true. In a recent interview of Jaime King, he mentioned specifically that what you're seeing in Red Dead Redemption was what Sam wanted to do in Revolver all along. It's possible Rockstar thinks RDO is not worth supporting anymore or maybe that Kotaku report was right and RDO's resources was allocated on the Trilogy DE for the better part of 2021 and they'll release an update in 2022. Who knows, Sam might not be interested in Red Dead Online specifically, Benzies' lawsuit did mention the brothers were not interested in GTAO at that time, but it's a completely different beast now anyway and is a core pillar of Rockstar's business model.

In my opinion a Red Dead sequel will absolutely happen in future, I'm confident about that. GTA and RDR are Rockstar's premiere franchises, they'll be around as long as long as Rockstar is around. What I'm more interested about is if they'll make more smaller scaled, experimental games in between the tentpole releases as Take Two presumably wants more and more new games from Rockstar, not less.

I stand corrected.  My apologies.

Smaller scaled games in between the major title releases would be awesome, kind of like they did around 15 years ago.

Apparently a translation error (OP's game is in Portuguese), as people in the comments were saying they saw Hanging Dog Ranch in theirs.

trust some anyone on red dead online?

that will never happen

All the popular forums on this game are dead. The player numbers have never been lower. The economy is in the toilet, no incentive to buy gold bars. Zero confirmed content for the forseeable future. No communication. No roadmap. Nothing.

A soundless and silent demise.

If this isn't strong evidence for a game's death, I'm not sure what is. I don't see how they can turn this around anymore. They either broom the game now, or they pull a Final Fantasy 14 and rework the entire game for another re-launch. This is pretty much over now.

Forums numbers (at least from what I've seen) not just in this section, but all everywhere else... The traffic has just gotten so low. I remember the GTA VI Speculation thread was really popular and was thriving, now there's barely anyone in that section posting stuff now. It's really sad.

I wonder if Take 2 doesn't allow Rockstar to say anything until it's 99% ready for stock value reasons.  Saying something then not delivering could affect stock differently than saying nothing then revealing something is essentially done and is being released very soon.

Ubisoft is a public company, and manages to lay out a roadmap for Ghost Recon Breakpoint, for example.

In GTA they allow players to create content. Many of the player-created versus games are some of the best fun to be had in the game. I played rockets v insurgents (and all the different forms) for hours on end. At least if we had player created content in RDO it would give us something.  I've no idea why they decided to remove all choice from the game. You can't even choose which type of showdown to play and you are forced to play whatever they decide - which is why I rarely play them (and only when it's the 7th daily at 0.2+ gold).

I'm the same, when I want to play one of the showdowns I don't like being shuffled through a bunch of games I don't even want to take part in just to get to the one I want. That is a ridiculous mechanism, and from what I understand it is that way because they want players to play all of them and not just the popular ones.

Their logic is upside down, instead of making the showdown fun and enticing us to play them, they try to force us into every mode instead, which causes many of us to just ignore them all together.

If the company would loosen their darn grip on the reins and let the players pull on the bit a little this game could easily weather the droughts that this company puts us through.

Of course they will. I hate to say it but I really wished another company would come along with a Western game that has everything and more to put Red Dead into the dirt.

Maybe with some competition R* developers might actually have to put some real thought and effort into their games...

I love Red Dead so much but I have become bitter with the company in charge of it.

There are obviously going to be a some people who love them and I do notice some players staying in there the whole time. But I expect most people don't like then. Being completely serious, they couldn't have made them any worse if they tried. No choice over which to play. You often land in the middle of one and have to wait for it to finish if it's for a daily. They even made 'special' editions where they get to make them worse than they already were. I can only assume that so few people play them that if we had a choice, most would almost empty. So they just have a rolling set of showdowns in each region of the world. Why else would we rarely start at the beginning? And I think we have showdowns as dailies so the hard core players have a bit of fresh meat.

I'm afraid that ship has sailed a long time ago. Westerns in general are pretty niche nowadays especially in gaming sphere except the RDR series. Not a single studio even tried to make a proper open world western even after RDR1 was a smashing success 11 years ago and now that RDR2 is out and it has been 3 years since that, I just don't see any company willingly trying to compete with it.

Unless a publisher is willing to spend $300-400+ million, has huge amount of manpower and time in hand to allocate on a project that is very very risky, you're just not gonna see any western open world that remotely compares to the scale and richness of RDR2. Just think about it, how many new city crime games came out after GTAV was released 8 years ago? Except Watch Dogs every single one of them were sequels and you can count their number in one hand, and none of them comes close to the scale of V. (I'm not counting Cyberpunk because it technically is not a new IP and was marketed as an RPG. We all know how that turned out though).

I'm sure you'd see some RDR competitors if it was the PS2 era. Matter of fact Red Dead Revolver and Gun came out within a couple of years from each other. Publishers are more or less done trying to emulate Rockstar because it's too risky, too expensive of a gamble in current gaming landscape.

The main issue with the blood money update is its scalability.

Move the CTA mode to a new map, change the predator spawn and revamp the odd enemy cart and label it as new content.

I tend to ignore those daily challenges, they aren't worth the stress to me anymore. And don't get me started about joining in the middle of an open game, I just love spawning on my horse during the races and seeing that I'm late to the gate. I mean what is the point? 🤨 Their pvp games have little to nothing to offer, it's no wonder players are roaming the open world trying to find players to have a shootout with.

Agree with you both completely. There are a few showdowns I acually enjoy, and several that I dont. The fact that I have to join all of these other showdowns for the slight possibility I might get to play one I like is exactly why I dont play them. You two ladies hit the nail on the head

Nice stuff @Gettin up! 2k gold and a million dollars is my personal goal too! I’d say I’m a good few months out yet but getting there.

Once the snow clears up I’ll be back to the heavy farming, even though I doubt I’ll ever spend a single cent. 😂 Well maybe on bullets but y’know…

I hit 3k goal just a couple of weeks ago... now if there was anything nice to spend it 5% of it on... like an update... but looks like I'll have 3.5k by the time I really need to spend it though...

Lets hope whatever (if anything was) planned for December isn't dropped and added to the 'late spring / summer update' and we get something around February though.

So let's be honest, do we expect/hope for an Update after Christmas (Jan/Feb), wait until the Summer Update normally drops which would have given them a year to make something significant or is RDO dead and all we should expect is weekly deals and patches?

I know this might ruffle some feathers but I am holding out hope we see an Update after Christmas or at the very least the Summer Update. With The Contract GTAO DLC, the issues with GTA DE and the E&E version being delayed I feel that RDO has been pushed to the side but once all those issues are out of the way we may see an RDO Update.

I do hope they have taken a year to make a good, Frontiers Pursuits sized DLC for RDO and possibly a PS4 and Series X update.

This game is simply to awesome to just let it die.  There are many new players.  Lobbies are always filled with people below 50 and thats a good sign to me.

I agree, the potential for this game is amazing and yet R* cannot or will not see it. They are looking at the short term.

I get your point and they could’ve done a way better job at handling RDO but it’s not only that , I personally think people just isn’t interested in RDO from a casual standpoint when they have GTA as an alternative , this game has kinda had a bad reception since it’s Beta launch and rockstar probably feels there’s no reason to continue to invest big money into it at this point

"Red Dead Online: Blood Money is available now for players to dive in and explore, and there’s little doubt that we’ll see more content added to RDO in the months to come. What we can safely assume, though, is that Rockstar will be finding new ways to grow the world and present it to players."

This is from the most recent puff piece approved by R*.  It was "written" in September.
