RDO Speculation & General Chat (Part II)

Covid shouldn't be an excuse.  Everyone I know in the game industry hasn't hit any major issues with working remote.  Game development is a slow burn that takes a long time anyways.  The GTA Trilogy issue was a hiccup in the bigger picture of production time.  To suggest Rockstar development has been severely slowed by the past two years of Covid would mean there's other issues at Rockstar.  Maybe they're too big of a company?  If you consider what's probably San Diego steering RDO, you have to wonder WTF they've been doing for the past year and how much money they've burned up just to pull some gold and XP levers with a dozen or so costumes. 

I've seen MOD people create more things faster and better than the big developer.  Sure a company has to spend time QA debugging it, but you'd think Rockstar would have SOMETHING to share.  I'd love it if they said it will be a year until we see a big update instead of this dribble crap every Tuesday wondering if this was going to be the week new stuff shows up.  

My bet is they'll have a longer PR build up to anything of substance.  So if there's no PR, then don't expect anything of note for the Holidays or Q1.

With the crap they pulled with E&E and then DE and now this I’m really beginning to go from just being annoyed with them to a genuine dislike of this company.

I'm uninstalling tonight. I've been tempted several times before, but tonight the game is dead to me.

The whole thing gets bloody stupid when you take into account that anyone who switched from PS to Xbox or vice versa with the new consoles is also screwed. Every other online game I know of that made the jump from this gen to next but not RDO or GTAO.

 

Absolute shambles from Rockstar for me, there's no excuse for it especially as they've shown they can do it in the past.

The only chance we have really is if there's an official next gen version that allows for transfers, because one day in the future they're going to drop support for the PS4 version like they did with GTA 5 and the PS3 version, and I'll be pissed if I can't transfer my character to PC when that day comes.

We need the professional rant vídeo about the no dlc for rdo, he must be so pissed....it would be Nice too if gtao players do something symbolic Regarding this matter like dressing like a clowns or something to show support to rdo players

This has me curious too. Someone mentioned fly on the wall stuff a page or so back and I really wondered how a conversation might have played out.

 

“We need something for the newswire next week, what is it the veteran players are doing right now, what are they playing the most?” 

 

“Log says trader and moonshine gets the most replays, lots of grind for RDO$. Some significant CtA action”

 

“Fine. Boost those 2X for the next month until this sh*t with DE gets fixed. Boost showdowns too. Give them triple pay”

 

“Next month? We’ve never gone 4 weeks on bonuses”

 

“We’ve never f*cked up this bad with a release before”

 

“True”

 

I didn’t wanna believe it but part of me did consider R* would offer nothing this season, especially after the catastrophe of DE. Personally, and I know I’m in the minority when I say I’m perfectly content with absolutely nothing. Well maybe not nothing because anything new would be welcomed with open arms. But I keep asking myself from their perspective “why offer major content if falling numbers show no ones playing?” Even if they did actually drop an update the numbers would only be boosted for a little while. 3k average on steam standalone, 20k average for RDR2 steam, possibly similar numbers for RGL and EGS. Console numbers I feel might be a little higher for each platform but not by much, at most 40k. So 140k across all platforms, with about a third or more only playing the story. There’s worse games out there on the market that have higher player counts than RDO and yet this has a much higher quality world to exist in.

 

They have the money to outsource like they did with DE but paid the price in doing so, now we all have to suffer the long content drought or chip to FO76, jump over to GTAO for the holidays or some other clone of open world fun because of their penny pinching frivolity. They always say, if you want a job done right, do it yourself. Time to take the L in the next shareholder meeting, I think.

now I realize in pc red dead 2 it came out together with the online one and there were never any transfers
no one complained xD that your valued account cannot be transferred XD

I think what killed the game more than anything was a fundamental misunderstanding of how to structure Online. They came at it with GTAO’s “accumulation of wealth is the end goal” mindset, which just doesn’t work given the setting. So they ended up with the situation of players having heaps of money within the first six months, and absolutely nothing to do with it.

 

RDO should’ve been primarily about survival and world immersion, with the accumulation of wealth being only a tool with which to accomplish that. Money should’ve only been relevant insofar as being one of the ways you can use to live in the world. There should’ve been ways to lose money, horses, inventory goods and maybe even weapons from careless gameplay. Horse dies, it’s gone for good like in SP. Don’t clean your gun, it runs the chance of breaking when you fire it at maximum ‘dirtiness’. If you die, you drop half of the money and goods/items in your satchel. To this, they should’ve also massively limited the amount of stuff you could carry on-hand, look at games like Resident Evil where you only had enough room to carry 1-2 guns, around a dozen bullets, and a handful of healing items at one time.

 

I think structuring it this way would’ve put a greater emphasis not on just mindlessly trying to save as much cash as possible, but rather instead trying to ‘fit in’ to the game world such that ‘being a gunman’ becomes the goal, rather than the money you earn from it. Essentially, turning it into an Old West survival-lite game.

To this day I still wanna know what happened to Mrs LeClerk's story, it was starting to get interesting once Red Dead Online left the beta state back in 2019, but we haven't seen anything else about it ever since.

 The fact that they couldn't even finish that storyline in over 2 years is very telling.

It's embarrassing, maybe we could even work with someone from Dutch's gang to get the other two responsible for her husband's death, like Arthur himself, Micah or Davey and Mac... Such a wasted potential.

It's more than likely the end of RDO. December is the most profitable time of the year and the fact that they are not putting out any new stuff to buy with gold shows that the money they could have made with an update wasn't even worth the resources to develop it. 

 

 

 

 

Honestly just give me 60fps on PS5 and call it quits, Rockstar.

You know, I wonder if its been Grove Street Games making RDO Updates all this time.

 

I mean, we know that, according to Tez, staff have been pulled of RDO and GTAV to fix GTA DE, but I wonder if it's been GSG all this time, and they are simply focusing the entire studio on fixing GTA DE.

Well I'll log on next week for the Xmas gift, use up my remaining coupons and tidy up my character (buy ammo, sell goods etc). Then I can shelve the game and forget about it until next summer (if no update, then forever). Say what you want about other live service games, least they provide monthly title updates / patches and roadmaps for upcoming content.

 

It is what it is with R* for Red DEAD Online.

You should really start holding Rockstar accountable for their failures. Getting really tired of people always talking about Take Two or GSG or whoever f*cking up, but Rockstar remains the f*cking darling

Well, in case anyone still had hopes for an update announcement happening soon, Rockstar unfortunately pushed a new background update today.

 

Why is this discouraging? Rockstar wouldn't push new background updates when a new title update is due for release in a week or two.

Again though, it's why it might be best to wait for January first. Of course there wouldn't be an RDO title update this month if it wasn't announced now (due to GTA Online most likely being announced this week/coming next week), people are probably gonna go on holidays soon etc. If there is one, I think it might've been delayed, but that remains to be seen next month or so.

 

Maintenance in the form of background updates does kind of signal it's not just abandoned tbh.

After the first three crafts that arrived on Red Dead Online in 2019, the game was abandoned and died.
After that came only shameful updates, bad and with little content.
This is very sad because Red Dead Online has a lot of potential to grow, but Bugstar Games has turned into a money-only crap because of Take-Two's greed.

The daily challenge streaks and collector role broke the economy. People were sitting on thousands of gold bars and like 400k cash before online really started to get going. Beta was ruthless with earning gold and cash. They probably should have stuck with that tbf. So unless they start charging 500 gold bars for a property or 200k cash I don’t see how they could fairly rebalance the economy in the game.
