Despite the fact they won't be releasing any major updates anymore I do hope they at least do some bug fixing to main features in the game. I mean, I was trying to take a photo with my posse earlier and uhhhh :kekw:

Right!

That one pose where everyone is doing the tough muscle stance looks kind of crazy with the female characters standing inside the male ones though. Hehe

It would be nice, as a good-bye gift, if they would fix the many bugs and open up the solo lobbies. Maybe the bug fixes were what they were talking about when mentioning experience improvements. 🤷‍♂️

And to think that effort could have either gone to - the enhanced Rockstar editor or making PS5/Xbox Series S/X version or even just a 60 fps patch for consoles. Or something else. Instead, even now they plan to make new telegram missions, which no one really cares about.

I just wish Rockstar would make at least one choice about this game that makes sense lol. Their treatment of this game has always been strange to say the least and it continues in its final moments as well.

Considering word from people with inside sources at Rockstar is that RDO devs/resources have been gradually moving over to GTA VI development for the last couple of years, and RDO went standalone in December 2020, it ends up looking like Rockstar were already moving on, and figured it worth selling RDR2/RDO as cheaper standalone purchases, now that they'd internally committed to drop support for RDO.

Meanwhile, compare that to GTAO, which has been sustained for nearly a decade, and where instead of selling GTAO as a cheap, standalone game (or even going free-to-play to entice more players, and relying on Shark Cards for monetisation), that sustained interest has let them just keep selling GTA V/Online as a single product, and people keep buying the whole shebang to play Online. Heck, they've even done whatever they can to keep the game at close to full retail price for that whole time: instead of making the game that much cheaper, they started adding Shark Card bundle editions, and then the "Premium Edition" with the Criminal Enterprise pack. And you can bet whatever you like that GTA VI's Online will do the same: they're going to hold off from selling 'GTA 2' as a standalone game for as long as they can, because it's better for them if they can just get you to buy GTA VI all-in for as close to $70 as possible.

So yeah: between 'no Creator mode', 'no character transfers to PC', 'no Rockstar Editor', and 'selling RDR2 story mode and RDO as cheaper individual products just two years in', it really does seem like the writing was on the wall from ...maybe around the launch of the PC version in November 2019. I've said it elsewhere, but this really does feel like the opposite of what happened with GTAO: this is more like the equivalent of GTAO getting to the end of the original run of updates on old-gen in 2015, and Rockstar deciding it wasn't worth supporting it further than that.

To bad the online ends on a sour note! Best part on ending would have been an redemption arc for our protagonist!

No, the game still exists and is played as far as I know.

On top of the telegram missions we have the supposed experience improvements "to enhance and maintain a healthy [RDO] environment" they announced, so we don't have major updates to speculate on anymore, but there's still discussion to be had about RDO.

hey, remember that R herself said that they wanted to focus a lot on gta 6, that's why there isn't as much red dead online content now
Do you believe him or is it an excuse? xd

For me I believe them because, I say it is that they are making an effort for the game xd

I think what they said about wanting to exceed expectations is somewhat true.

It makes sense for them to go full throttle with GTA 6 similarly to RDR 2. GTA is probably the most recognizable brand in the entire planet, and if the next game isn't a real life simulator then the company will be in trouble. The pressure is on for Rockstar to deliver, and they know it. Especially with all the negative press and legends leaving the company plaguing them recently.

Despite RDO getting shelved, I noticed even GTA Online isn't getting much either besides glorified contact missions this summer. Probably no different from the Telegram missions we're getting. That's why I think their statement rings true, and also subtly implies GTA 6 is near if they're willing to risk slowing down on all their projects a bit, including on their biggest money maker. And the last thing they'd want is to lose money.

I think they will release them randomly, which is what they did last year in fall. I remember there was one mission about stealing boats found in the files that never released. Yay, so interesting! 😁

On a serious note, I actually liked the concept of the last batch of telegram missions we got, it's too bad that these ideas are less exciting in practice than they are on paper. As much as I love the game, the stealth is definitely its weak point and if these missions rely heavily on such mechanic, it makes them annoying.

I do wonder that when GTA 6 is released and the attention then switches to the maintainability of GTA 6 Online, would that free up resources to work on other titles - i.e RDO?

Or would it be too long at that point to expect any attention to be paid to RDO?

I'm guessing R* will firmly be focused on providing the least amount of care to the game by then.

IMO there is a small percentage chance that next year RDO could get some sort of update if GTA VI is in a satisfactory "last stretch of development" state, because R* did specify "this year" there would be nothing. But as I said I think it's a small percentage and there's likely other reasons behind them not making bigger updates for RDO anymore.

What's funny is that they will never exceed expectations. Consumers tend to set expectations that are impossible to reach, much less surpass.

By then no one will be playing RDO, much less buying it. They did not even hint that they would return to RDO.

Since rockstar said that we only get telegram missions and no big update, is there still a chance that we could get a new Quick Draw club or Outlaw pass?

Here’s hoping the boat in question isn’t bound to pass any large bodies of water, because we all know boats love to stay afloat in this game!

I think the telegram missions are pretty bad too, mainly because they lack flavor. I have nothing wrong with the missions in general, but what would be real cool is if the missions themselves were a little longer; if they had really long instances with multiple tasks to complete like a quest from say, Skyrim. Something along the lines of a journey of force crossing multiple states.

If anyone is familiar with Crooked Cop in GTAO that mission is basically a statewide ‘Destroy Supplies’ stranger mission, but if they threw in a couple random allies such as the blue cowboy npc’s you see in Trader sales as a type of protection detail similar to the Headhunter CEO work you can play, then I’d be much more enclined to replay them. As they stand they’re over before they begin, and there’s no choice in difficulty setting, which further annoys me.

Say a telegram mission from Nazar to find one item/valuable to fence from each state for a small reward? Maybe a wagon full of allies to taxi to Thieves Landing for a mini CtA based shootout with 1 or 2 waves of heavies? Maybe a photographer telegram where you take pictures of a specific animal and send them out from the nearest post office for a reward based on quality? My cynical side in typing out these ideas remembers the longer a mission takes, the more money you receive. Maybe the A to B formula is purposely designed with low payouts in mind?

I’ve seen that rockstar mission creator in action. It’s pretty dang powerful and so easy to make content with. They don’t use it to its proper effectiveness for sure. I can see why they’ve opted for this with the “shift in resources” though.

So the future speculation can be forgone, but we can still chat generally about random RDO stuff. 😉

Given the um, simplicity of the items that came with the last couple passes, and the fact that R* is still going to be trying to get people to buy their gold bars it is possible that we will get a meager pass or two before the end.

No doubt it will be probably contain recolors of already existing clothing, stolen emotes from single player, possibly more outfits from the gang, and more easy to create recolors for the guns. I say this because they are obviously not going to put any more resources into creating new meshes or objects, and I doubt they want to take the time to create any new animations either.

It's just easier to get one of their team to change the hue of a model's existing texture, save it as a different file, and boom! You got a new item recolor and no real time was wasted.

What is bad is that I can do more than that with a simple and free program like Blender in hardly no time. 🤷‍♀️

That is the big “whaaat” moment for us creative types who have a hand or dabble in the art of 3D and the like. This kind of entry level work is mind bogglingly simple to add, and they’ve used it for Pass content. When they don’t even bother that’s kinda worse in my eyes.

They added colorways for a few clothing items back when Blood Money dropped, and I’m fairly certain there’s other content locked behind tunables or that was proposed for OP/QDP releases that is literally sitting in the code under <div class= fancy item **disabled**> just waiting to be used. I’m so dumbfounded as to why you’d go out of your way to create all these cosmetics and then decide “na, no point releasing those in the tailor now”. Not holding out hope but maybe they actually will release some unique stuff now RDO’s on the backburner?

@bevlian89 I just hope we can do them with posse!

I think it is to much to ask for by now but R* should know that changing difficulty should be an option that is why I don´t do them and that I can´t play with friends....

@CommanderBlack I hope that too.... Just telegram missions seems boring! A pass or two and spice for next Halloween!

@StyxTx Not hinting for a return is pretty bad! Small updates and passes had been fine with me or one big a year if they said that "we will back with more content"!

I don´t know if it just me but a lot of bugs and crashes are poping up.....

Truth.

It's depressing when we got a grasp for how these programs work, we know what it takes to put these models into the game, and here we are going, "Is that all you got?"

Now I'm not trying to disparage the R* talent by any means, they've got far more education and better hardware that I could ever think to play with, but that's kind of the point as to why I brought this up.

They had so much at their disposal and it seems like they just took the simple way out towards the end.

Yes. I've heard about those a long time ago. As well as their plan to come up with an Enhanced Rockstar Editor. All cancelled/halted by now.

Just wanna say that I was going off the recent newswire announcement. A source clarified that it's not "cancelled or halted" and still planned. Just slowed down and likely to be picked up after VI.

@VideoTech Could you clarify this within your tweet? Thanks.

...wait, is that an enhanced Rockstar Editor for RDR2, or for GTA VI? After all, the original Editor didn't get added to GTA V until the PC version, nearly two years after release (and then several more months to get added to the console versions).

Hold on now..... So if they are picking up Red Dead again, then they must be done with GTA 6 soon?

@Commander S Maybe Red Dead is advanced or can handle the same editor as GTA 6 are going to have....?
