RDO Speculation & General Chat (Part II)

Logging into the game and thinking about what it could have been is very sad.  But thinking further, talk about an epic failure for R*...just let an incredible game get pushed aside for the lamest Dr Dre promo and other praised horrors like the Casino heist...a borderline maze simulator.  GTAO had one good update since RDO...Cayo Perico...the rest are repackaged garbage.  GTA6...they have rereleased so many nonnote worthy games in the past 4 years.  LA Noire was released on some fad 3d glasses system. Also, they have rereleased GTAV not just a standalone GTAO...literally beating a dead on horse, a la RDR2, in the process.  I mean talk about dense.  This company is f'ed...anyone with hope for GTA6 is still holding on to some nostaligia from GTAV/GTAO glory days.  Its over...the company has been swallowed whole by easy microtransaction money and holding out hope for GTA6 is going to be like an RDO fan after Blood Money and Christmas 2021...the writing is on the wall...R* doesnt make good games anymore.

I always think about this, Rockstar Games have thousands of employees, they can only work on GTA 6, a half assed GTA Online update and literally nothing else? What will be the future of their other franchises if they can't focus on more than one game at a time? Only GTA games from now on and no more Red Dead, Max Payne or whatever? That's ridiculous.

Now, was that really so hard R*?  🤨

Oh and just screw off with your "new" telegram missions btw, just give me the option to take my character to an offline story map so that y'all no longer have the ability to take that away from me too. I can make due in my own way.

giphy-downsized-large.gif

I've been buying R* games since darn near the beginning but I've already decided it is time to stop wasting money on them, these games are getting to be much too expensive for the little content they give and I think I can live without another car game in my life.

Can we all take solace in the fact that RDO died before it lived long enough to become the villain? They could have gone and added flying horses, laser guns, aliens etc but at least it remains somewhat pure.

Abandoning RDO because of GTA6?? 🤡

Which RDO update was reallyyyy big? Blood Money or Naturalist? I think only 10 people worked on those updates for a 3-4 weeks lol... 1 developer can make more mind blowing games/content these days on Steam!

In my humble opinion this joke was very stupid! C* Lie better next time!

Like I've said many times before, to those who have PCs, it is time we all invest into RedM. Right now, all the RedM servers are mostly RP servers. With the announcement that we got, I think it is time we make our own Red Dead Online by using RedM, with Blackjack and hookers, of course.

I'm not sure how we can make it work, but this passionate community has loads of talent and they've already proven as much with the RP servers in RedM, where they've already completely finessed Rockstar in terms of content and put RDO to shame in comparison to those servers. All we have to do is just make the server non-RP centric and make it an actual game similarly to RDO.

The only thing that will be lacking in this hypothetical perfected version of RDO is the motion captured cutscenes, really. Everything else will be what Red Dead Online should've been. The only thing to worry about is T2 knocking on our doors, but as long as it doesn't include monetization, we should be fine - as T2 would most likely think that we are apart of the RP servers, and as you know, they allow them to stay up due to how popular they make their games, and how it keeps them relevant. So I think making this server would be just fine.

The only unfortunate thing is that console players won't be able to join in on the fun if this ever gets made.

They had more than enough time to pull a FF14 and reboot RDO into something great, but they didn’t. They could’ve at least given us some Western-themed roles like Gambler and Wrangler. But they didn’t. The blood is on their hands.
We shall never get to participate in an expy of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Rodeo Show; we shall never get to gamble on faro and blackjack for hundreds of dollars a stake on the Grand Korrigan. We shall never pan for gold, or drive cattle, or dynamically rob stages or banks in freeroam, or break wild horses to sell.
but thank the good lord above we can run around as a patsy for an Italian mobster to steal gems, and that we can collect blood samples for some ungrateful shrew.

In my opinion they just decided to abandon RDO and allocated its developers to GTA Online, not GTA 6, because RDO didn't even have many developers working on it to begin with, don't tell me those monthly events takes more than 10 developers to organize because they don't, maybe not even 5.

i just remembered the buffalo rifle hud image that rockstar teased 2 years ago. and we never got it. i don't know if a new gun counts as major content. but maybe they could slip that in with telegram missions. i assume since they already teased it. that it probably already works in the game. so why not release that? it would be nice to have a new gun to play with.

Last I saw, RedM wasn’t taking new people cuz R* did something to prevent the game verification process through RedM.

Can't say I care a lot about RDO's imminent death and I'm definitely not surprised. What they did with RDR2 was amazing imo, but RDO has been very lackluster since day one (to me anyway). From the crappy beta to mediocre updates with tedious and boring gameplay grinds, becoming more laughable with every update (looking at you in particular, Naturalist). Hell, they couldn't even give us some proper UN modes (Undead Overrun) during the Halloween events. I can't possibly see what and how these "telegram missions" would salvage this mess. It's all like a really bad joke at this point.

RDO had so much potential to become something really cool and fun, but R* clearly had no clue what to do with it. What it essentially comes down to is R* making odd decisions and putting out crappy content for it, then likely blaming the lack of sold MTX ('cause it's not fun and there's barely anything to buy). Punishing the players for their own lack of effort.

They might as well pull the plug on it at this point, I don't care anymore. It's a shame it came to this.

Both FiveM and RedM are getting quite popular here in Brazil, I've even seen one of the biggest banks in my country supporting FiveM championships or whatever.

What Rockstar can do from now on is make the next Red Dead a story mode only game and make DLCs for it instead of making a online mode they don't care about and abandoning it for no reason whatsoever, the bastards didn't even care to finish Red Dead Online's story, where the hell is Jessica LeClerk's revenge? She still got Grace Lancing to deal with!

I’ve been saying for years that the path they should’ve gone down was a proper MMORPG. Really lean into the survivalist aspects of SP, and have the roles be more vital to that. Look at games like Runescape or WoW, where you don’t have to go on dungeon raids to play the games. You can just be a shopkeep or a smithe or a rancher or whatever. RDO had the chance to do something similar with the roles but they squandered it by making them shallow reskins of GTAO businesses.

imagine if you could load in and spend your entire play session immersing yourself into the role of a publican in your own personal saloon from the moonshiner update. Actually having the gameplay depth for that kind of play be fun for hours. Tedium is only tedium when it’s unimaginative. Sakuna of Rice and Ruin makes a highly detailed simulation of rice paddy farming be fun, and that game was made by two guys working in their spare time between their real job.

Do you people think they'll at least add a new weapon or another and/or new horses to the game eventually? I don't think those are too hard to make.

Since they won't support Red Dead Online anymore, they could at least make its exclusive guns available in Story Mode.

I don't see why, even if they're not adding anything new to the game, they can't nevertheless just add existing RDR2 things into the game - after all, if they're able to spend the time designing telegram missions, they could use similar time and resources to do stuff like add purchasable wagons/coaches/buggies. It's all existing stuff, and the inventory architecture already exists for letting players buy/manage owned wagons, so just ...add the civilian-grade ones as well.

Same for stuff like the M1899 pistol - just add it to the game, like any other gun. And another thing they could do is simply go back and periodically re-run past Outlaw Passes, alongside the event months. Gives players who missed out (and PC players, who never got OP#1) the chance to get anything they missed, and a bit more incentive for past players, since it's worth getting stuff like free consumables and fast-travel vouchers.

That's more in line with what other games have done when updates stopped: just put things on permanent rotation, or added them permanently, depending on what works better (obviously Outlaw Passes would need to rotate, rather than all of them be active at once!). As it is, there's stuff that might never come back, while other things are in the game, but not available for players. :sigh:

I’m just playing now actually and this game is so much more immersive than GTAO it’s laughable. It’s criminal what they’ve done with this game.

Rockstar proved they can make great updates for this game with FP and Moonshiners. Imagine getting 2 dlc like that every year for the next few years. The game would have been incredible.

The only unfortunate thing is that console players won't be able to join in on the fun if this ever gets made.

😞 I have the capability of getting it on my computer, as I just bought a new system but I don't have the space for any big games. With my 3D and other art programs I am left with little to spare.

That said I would join RedM in a heartbeat if anyone would still have me should my situation change. The idea of being able to roleplay, I mean actually roleplay my online character is an exciting prospect to me.

Unfortunately I believe that if players dropped off the main R* servers the company might get a little upset (their fault) and try to mess with the roleplaying servers as much as possible. Didn't they already make it so that players couldn't invite new members to the RedM servers? Could that be the reason why they didn't allow for character transfers between the pc to console?

Seems they will sabotage this game if they have to.

I just don't understand it, even when the game is so basic we were here for it? Sure we did tend to complain, but take it as it is, complaints are still a good thing because if people didn't complain it means they just don't care enough to bother.

The dedication that players have/had for this game was palpable, we all stuck with it so far and I am going to be honest that it shocked me just how far this game actually took off. They honestly had something special when it comes to RDO, if only they would have made this game more of a survival sandbox game and not a pvp shot fest it might have worked out better for them in the end.

The fact that we were forced to rely upon them sharing updates to keep the world going, instead of relying on our own creativity to draw us in, is where they went wrong. They could have just given us the lumber and allowed us to build the world, then we would have been busy and their additions could have come as often and cost as much as they wanted to charge.

They shot themselves in the foot, have the audacity to blame the players, and in the end they still won't learn anything from this.

Once the brains behind RDO left I think R* decided at that point to release what already existed and call it quits after that.

...and I was just about to post this, too:

...so, people have been pointing to a 2019 VG247 article about the possibilities for the future of RDO, "Villains, lawmen, businesses, photography, and heists - the future of Red Dead Online, a Rockstar interview". It was published between Frontier Pursuits and Moonshiners - there's stuff in there about adding properties, which could have meant homesteads, but could just have likely meant the upcoming Moonshine Shacks. Whatever, it's moot now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

However, I was curious to see what the devs interviewed were doing now, so I looked them up on LinkedIn. Can't find anything for Katie Pica (lead online production associate - she's been interviewed a couple of times, including more recently for the Blood Money update) but Tarek Hamad (online producer, also in both interviews) and Scott Butchard (lead open world designer, also also in both interviews) are both on there, and ...neither of them are in those jobs anymore:

- Tarek Hamad: Associate Online Producer Dec 2015 - Jan 2019, Director of Design Production Jan 2019 - Present

- Scott Butchard: Lead Online Open World Designer Jan 2018 - Jan 2020, Design Director: World & Content Jan 2020 - Present

At the very least, it suggests that they've been moving from Online-specific roles, to more general ones (even if that means still working on Online in some capacity). But yeah, definitely tallies with Jason Schreier's account, where there's been a gradual shift of talent away from RDO since ...perhaps even as early as completing the bulk of the first several updates in 2019.

Is it me or does the Saint Denis fast travel post like to pick and choose when and where to spawn?

It's been gone on my end for 3 days now, and seems to move from next to the Post Clerk to near the railroad tracks randomly as well.

It’s been like that for years mate. However, I’m still like wtf whenever I’m trying to find it. Sometimes it doesn’t even spawn.
