Hi. I was trying to get information on the new GTA Online update. I guess I'm not on the right "topic".

I believe most Rockstar employees were asked to work on the next GTA title, hence why RDO didn't receive any update this year.

Yep, just like we all thought. There is no disputing it now - this game is officially dead if some of you haven't gotten the hint yet.

I decided to launch the game after months and start a CTA, you know, just for the fun of it. What a waste of time that was. Matchmaking still sucks, I spent like half an hour loading in (and back) just to be with at least 1 other player. I've encountered mutliple servor issues while doing so. Once I finally found a mate in the Blackwater map, managed to do 1 wave with him and then boom: Rockstar server issue. Moved back to main menu again, closed the app. I tried. Never again.

 

See ya in a year or so I guess.

I actually laughed while reading the newswire. I knew there would nothing, so no ounce of frustration from me, though I still feel somewhat disappointed since 1 year of RDO was far more enjoyable to me than 5 years of GTAO.

 

oh well, time to save some storage space. See you when Rockstar takes the game behind the barn, or actually does something new with it.

I'm sorry. I may not be an RDO player, but a whole year for R* to not even bother with even the smallest of new content? That's pathetic for R*, not an even an announcement of something new.

 

I held out hope for you guys that after Blood Money, they were re-strategising the monetisation for RDO due to how much of a disaster that update was and you'd at least get an announcement of something today. And this idea of; they'll only work on the more successful product - RDO isn't anywhere near as successful as it could, would & should be, because every update (from outersiders perspective who was interested) after Frontiers Pursuits have seemingly been designed to suck, not to mention having the game's content revolve around a Battle Pass. FOMO was already an unappealing and deincentivising factor for anyone who maybe wanted to get in on any game even back in 2018.

 

- Moonshiners; a GTA Online update from 2016, which R* knew people hated and at the same time were moving away from in GTA Online and planned to perfect the Heists formula, having learned all the lessons from 2015 & 2017.

 

- Naturalist; I'll give this leeway, given when it released and how dev time would have been impacted, but Zoology as the main pull? No way was that ever gonna drum up excitement in a Wild West outlaw game.

 

- Bounty Hunters; this is when the, "we don't know what we're doing, so we won't bother at all" vibes began normalising.

 

- Blood Money; It's not just that this update was nothing but a bunch of regular missions with a pay-to-play-scheme using a new, hard to find currency - but the marketing that went into this versus Tuners. Us GTA guys thought we were gonna get a small scale update to make room for RDO getting the long awaited bi update it needed, with us getting nothing major except new cars and two new types of races. We didn't know or suspect it was another Heist update, until we were actually playing it ourselves, because they refused to market it as such until AFTER the update was live.

 

This is why I recently said in the GTA Online Spec Thread that no one would be opposed to remasters of GTA IV & RDR1 - if it weren't for R*/T2's now infamous reputation for putting the absolute minimal amount of investment and effort into anything that isn't GTA Online. I can't imagine that one of the most legendary studios in the games industry, could place people so seemingly incompetent in terms of game design in charge of creating content updates for their second live service title that was to run parallel alongside GTA Online - this had to have been studio/corporate politics.

I could have let this slide as the game has been dead since December when no holiday update was released.   But seriously, blaming no RDO DLC/RDR1 remaster for their terrible GTA no one asked for remakes is such a cop out.  Their blatant cash grab on those games was obvious.  How many times can they release those games and actually expect people to buy them?  Check it out guys "the UBER COLLECTORS EDITION!" My guess is the only place that even wanted them was this forum.  The youtuber community loved it as well.  Another chance to dump on a company that literally doesnt respond to criticism in any direct manner.  We are focusing on GTA6...but Paul in marketing is taking his 6 month paternity leave...so we are having delays.  Give me a break, GTA6 is DOA.

No new DLC depot updates on SteamDB since September 2021. And still continuing.

 

Even if we are to suddenly receive new depot updates suggesting a new DLC, it won't arrive until around 3 to 6 months from now. GTA6 development is already prioritized, but will be higher next year. Would Rockstar say no when more resources are demanded for VI just to save RDO? You look at the current state and you're disappointed. You look at the future and there's more disappointment.

So, they abandoned the best looking game, in the history of Rockstar, to "assist" on a game that is two years away from release?

 

This billion dollar juggernaut, has limited resources and manpower? And can only focus on one project at a time?

 

There must be a massive "brain drain" at Rockstar.

Yes, they know most people need VI the most. So they will now put everything they have to it.

 

Hopefully VI is out late next year.

I am kind of addicted to this game I will admit because I love it so much, and I am a very patient man. However now after playing RDO for about two and a half years I think I am going to slow down. I figure I have about 2600 gold bars, so perhaps I play until 3K and then let the game rest until something happens, if it ever will.

Remember, when they finally announce GTAVIs release date, it will be a lie.      
The actual release will be at least 6 to 12 months after that and will require everyone on the payroll to work 24/7.

It's very simple, honestly. Rockstar is 100% committed to shipping GTAVI as soon as possible. RDR2 is turning 4 this year. If there was a grand plan for a game-changing RDO update, it'd have happened by now.

 

No matter how good it looks, RDO was always going to stay in the shadow of GTAO. So, although I never expected GTAO levels of support, I didn't see it drying out within 3 years.

I suspect Rockstar most likely struggled to shift to work from home set-up during COVID and realized they'd need every hand on deck to ship VI quickly, so every other project was either shelved (RDO updates, the rumored RDR, GTAIV remasters) or outsourced (Trilogy DE). Whatever resources left went to GTAO and even then, GTAV's next gen port was not anything special. Hell, it didn't even come with any real next gen exclusive content, and that's their biggest moneymaker.

So, if they base their decision on MONEY, then they should do the GTA IV/RDR remaster/remake.

 

And if they make a better job, they probably sell many more.

What were their expectations? They never say that or give hard numbers. That term "better than expected" by itself does not mean it did good.
