I don't see them attempting another online for any other games, either - so a hypothetical "Bully 2" wouldn't have "Bully Online").

Off topic, but to indulge this just a touch.

Bully: Online - everyone’s a school kid and we have to attend class and avoid falling asleep on the spot to get dates.

Manhunt: Online - A return of the brutal blood sport. Killing Floor vibes and State of Emergency vibes; everyone trying to stealth kill in different pvp maps.

Ahhh, it just isn’t the same as the first time around though is it?

Ozark gains popularity, gets nuked. South takes its place. Gets (or is about to get*) nuked. Same over the Golden Goose™️ house.

How many times do they have to repeatedly take down the same code being used to bypass and abuse their systems? And more importantly, how many gullible folks does it take to think more sustainable action can ever be achieved than pretending to act in the userbases’ best interest? Mods and griefing sell like hot cakes. Not just here but in all open world games. Rockstar count on that arm of social interaction as being reactionary as a gut punch.

Wonder what the next menu will provide, and what will its name will be? The cycle woefully continues… Is action better than inaction, even if you end up where you start? What does it say to the efficacy of your brand if you continually fail your customers?

R* must have real fun chasing their own tail by now! I pondering if dev cost is cheaper by now or it would have been cheaper to have servers to play on instead?

It would save them time if they'd just open private servers. They wouldn't have to spend time fighting mods or whatever. People who don't want to deal with mods, go to a private server. Those who don't care just stay in the public ones. Who knows, some of the servers could end off being the equivalent of a hacker server. Let them have at each other.

Oh absolutely.

They did this with IV PC multiplayer did they not? I swear I recall getting the prompt I’d be joining a modified client based session when I added a trainer all those years ago. When I didn’t, I had issues joining other friends with similar modified clients. The game strictly said because it saw my executable had been altered, I’d be confirming and agreeing to all mayhem in them. This was a great move and foresight on their part.

The idea of separated rooms pleases both sides. It’s a win win, but for Rockstar…?

So I wound up getting the Fast Travel post discount voucher automatically for some reason - checked the expiry date to see if it might give any clue as to the next update (because IIRC, they've never lasted into the next update - i.e., they expire before Rockstar adds new stuff)...

...September 15th, 2022. Doesn't exactly bode well for a July update, does it? 😬

(also, it'd be a little less glaring that the game's been more-or-less abandoned since last autumn if the Club rewards menu on the "Progress" page didn't still have the Halloween Pass graphics up... 🙃)

This I don´t understand! I think all the tunables are automated and a intern is responsible for the update in the game and on social media.

If that is the case, then the team working on RDO has to be the most incompetent of all time, which actually does seem to be the case as time goes on. Because even when they actually focus on RDO, they still get it wrong.

This game was always doomed from the start, people just didn't know.

That would be developed by someone else and not the RDO team (which highly likely doesn't even exist at this point, except one guy who writes newswire every month) or even Rockstar themselves.

A mobile Red Dead would be a slap in the face for all the fans, and I seriously doubt there is even an interest in that from the casual audience.

The problem with that theory is that any mobile games would be made by Zynga as R* (as a whole) has literally no mobile game experience. Zynga however, does. So even if that were to be the case, it wouldn't be R* devs making it. The moment that Zynga is owned by T2, they will have access to T2 IP such as Red Dead. So even if that mobile game was hypothetically true it wouldn't affect R*'s own dev pipeline.

That said I don't think we're getting any mobile Red Deads lmao.

Caffeination

I accidentally trampled a dog to death in Emerald Ranch because my character was too busy stowing his rifle on the horse’s saddle to respond to my dismount command. A player saw me do it, but he didn’t react or say anything about it.

After I finished selling valuables to the fence, I went to my nearby camp and left my character in it as I went to get a cup of water for myself. As I came back, I saw that I was wanted, for some reason, and the carcass of the dog I trampled was by my feet. I left the radius before the magical teleporting lawmen saw me, and saved the clip to see what happened.

Turns out the player that saw me trample the dog picked him up and followed me to my camp, and tossed the dead mutt near me, all before riding away. Some NPC who passed by my camp saw me next to the carcass and ran to report me to the law for “animal cruelty”.

What a sh*tshow lol.

That reminds me of something I used to do whenever I was bored. I'd cause a ruckus, get a wanted status and then ride into town where a fellow player(s) would be and just follow them and ride around them while I was getting shot by at the lawmen. Some might call it griefing. I like to call it a "player initiated random event":kekw:. It caused for some seriously funny moments. Sometimes they'd shoot back, realize they weren't wanted in the first place and then ride off to try and lose the law. I would follow them. :kekw:

One of the strangest things I've ever had happen to me was I was randomly minding my own business in Valentine. Two guys came up to me, one of them hogtied me, while the other stood in front of me, held out his catalogue and spoke over the in-game chat and recited verses from the bible.

And I have believed it, if the possibility to pick up a trampled dog was real, which is not possible. But the story was fun thogh...

Not only can you carry dog corpses, trampled or shot or burnt to a crisp, you can also stow it on your horse and carry it around wherever you want.

You can try the one by the emerald ranch fence, same dog I trampled. A border collie, black and white. You can’t miss it, not even your horse’s hooves can miss it.

Once seen a posse use the cliff (just above the church in Valentine) picking players off with rolling block rifles. Perfect lines of sights so I gotta give credit where it’s due.

Wow, they were like some sort of Old West Jehovah Witness door knockers or something? Lol, I'm not a conservative religious sort of person. And I don't have a thing against anyone's personal belief system, as I tend to sit more on the pagan side than anything, but it's darn funny to think that they're breaking into the online gaming world to spread their gospel.

I hope they start wearing the same sort of attire that way we can duck and run when we see them coming like we do the knockers. One can just imagine the saloon in Valentine full of players until someone runs in and yells that the bible people are coming, next thing you see are players jumping out of windows and out the back door.

Maybe some of us might get hog tied and caught because our horses can be arseholes and like to turn around in circles or get caught up in the buildings, or we are slow to get up when we fall from the balcony onto the street below in our haste, but they can't get all of us.

giphy.gif

My favorite hog tying incident was when these two players kept coming at me in Valentine. I just literally hung out on the back of the player's horse as they rode all of the way down to Rhodes cause I was bored and wanted to see what they had planned. Anyways outside of Rhodes I get a notification thing for a bounty in the area and the two players find a posse of four on the road, at first I thought that one of those players was the bounty because the players who had me started to go after a particular player in that posse. That little incident turned into a bigger fight when a larger posse shows up and starts going after everyone else. I think that the players in the larger bounty thought I was the one they were looking for because they kept trying to shoot me off the player's horse (thank the gods that my kidnapper could maneuver his/her horse well). They did end up finally taking my assailant down and when the horse stopped and I was able to break free, the players literally surrounded me with their guns drawn. I gave them a hat tip because I didn't know what else to do and they just turned their horses and rode away after the other player that kidnapped me. Which was who was the one who actually had the bounty on their heads in the first place.

It was crazy.

I was playing OG RDR Multiplayer last night (full sessions surprisingly) and it reminded me how fun the competitive game modes were. The Tesoro Azul area in Mexico with Bolt Action Rifles was just f*cking awesome during Hold Your Own and Grab The Bag. It wasn’t just that that though… the pre-game lobby was better. Fist fights ensued waiting for the match to start, the badass multiplayer narrator guy whose voice made the atmosphere that much cooler, etc… Red Dead Online just lacks that stuff. How on earth they didn’t include standoffs before matches is beyond me.

Damn, I miss Mexico. Literally venturing into another country and the vibe out that way just hit different. Loved the areas, the character NPCs and Mexican musical scores. Entering Escalera for the first time brings back memories.

Also, does anyone miss Liar’s Dice?

For about a year after RDO launched, I’d send them feedback every month begging for poker (which got added), blackjack, dominoes, faro, and liar’s dice. They never got back with me

Same. I gave up eventually. I suggested Hold Your Own and Grab the Bag as pvp modes, liar's dice, narrator, pvp modes without ability cards like in rdr 1 multiplayer.

I'm genuinely considering buying a PS3 to play RDR1 story mode and online.

On the one hand it shows how much of a masterpiece this franchise is when you consider buying a console to play an 11 year old game

On the other it shows how much of a sh*tshow RDO is when you consider buing a console to play an 11 year old game out of boredom

How much am I looking at for a PS3 in todays market in Europe? Anything specific I should look out for?

And are lobbies likely to be as populated as on Xbox?

they did add the pvp modes without ability cards. it was the hardcore series. no auto aim. no ability cards. no tonics. and the health bar was smaller. so it is more like how rdr1 was. i personally didn't like it. but they added it.
