Played Il Sovrano yesterday, on the lowest difficulty.
Actually had a good time. Is the most enjoyable Opp mission.
Had a bit of outlaw feel to it.

There are still several things R* could improve on for these missions, but it's a step in the right direction

Enjoying it. If I don't want other players around, I can always change to solo session.

That shows the users for the story mode and/or online. Not all those people are playing online so that chart is unreliable when trying to figure out who's playing what and doesn't show how good or bad online or story is doing.

Let's look at the numbers for those who are playing the online stand alone since you want to bring back the Steam charts, not with the single player game included. Those numbers don't say much good about online.

https://steamcharts.com/app/1404210

When I looked at the charts for several single player games I have, a few that have been out for years and no longer get updates, their numbers come close to or exceed the numbers in the chart you posted.

Civilization 6 is an example. It does have an online mode but that is a recent addition and is not anywhere near as popular as your regular online based game. But even before the online was added, since January 2020, maybe a little earlier, when it was strictly a solo game, it's Steam numbers are higher than RDR2/RDO is now.

https://steamcharts.com/app/289070

Since there was no online for the game and it had those kind of numbers we can not just assume those RDR2 numbers in your link are mostly online players. There are millions of people out there who still prefer single player games.

This link gives you a complete list of all games with their numbers.

https://steamcharts.com/top

When I looked at it, RDR2 was at #41 and RDO was at #191 and GTA5 was at #5 but this list is current and is updated often so it will be different whenever anyone else looks. It's actually an interesting chart since you can check all games.

Some games looked a lot better than I thought they would and some were worse, like NBA 2k21 which has no competition and is supposed to be the be all and end all of all sports games. What really shocked me about NBA 2k21 is that recently they did a poll asking players which mode was their favorite and over 70% said it was mycareer, which is single player. From all the hype they give about NBA2k league and the park I would have though it would have been over 70% for the online stuff.

It's not dead.

Less players but not dead, I am coming back in December when it's snowing I think.

You cannot come into any conclusion about RDR2/RDO's player numbers from Steam Numbers solely because the game came out on PC after a year (Nov, 2019) when the console version already sold over 27 million copies and the Steam version launched 1 month after R* Launcher and Epic Store release (Dec, 2019 and R* Launcher was promoted heavily with free games with it and such) and finally RDO Standalone came out a year after PC release (Dec, 2020), so it should have lower numbers naturally. You don't even know how many player playing RDR2 on Steam are playing online or story mode. RDR2 sold 38 million copies by now so even if PC version sold 7-8 million copies there's 30-31 million copies which are on consoles.

Too many variables to calculate PC numbers plus the lack of any information about console numbers makes it worthless to even try to figure it out. Civilization is a PC centric franchise in the first place and it came out on PC and consoles simultaneously so it's PC numbers should be higher but in Red Dead's case vast majority of the playerbase is on consoles which is likely to eclipse Civ's numbers. It's safe to say RDO ain't dead at all and Steam numbers only show a small part of a much bigger picture.

Nope, according to Take Two, Blood Money was the most sucessful DLC in RDO s history, I saw Red Dead Online standalone reached 7k a week ago and the full game reached 28K so I do not think it is dead

My daughter would use that emote as much as possible, she even told me that her character was cute and innocent, but a little off. 😬 Now, my daughter is the sweetest thing in real life, but for some reason video games bring the demons out of her, lol.

Is this from a few hours after the release of the update? Because I have yet to see a full server when I've played, or are we being blessed with the small servers again?

Certainly this game isn't dead if even a few people log on to play for 15 minutes then shut it off, but it sure is suffering from suffocation and may eventually choke itself away if they don't do something worth a darn to keep it.

Today RDR2's concurrent peak on Steam was 26K and for RDO it was 5K so not that different from that number. Most of the playerbase is still on consoles though.

Also honestly I think Rockstar doesn't have extremely high expectations from RDO (compared to GTAO) but it is successful in it's own right and does bring in nice amount money with relatively low investment on their part. We don't know how much RDO standalone version sold but RDR2 is steadily selling about a million copies each quarter for quite some time.

T2 explicitly said RDO performed extremely well in the last earnings call -

Quote

Red Dead Online also enjoyed a strong quarter, thanks to new content offerings, including eight new horse races and a creative array of bonuses and incentives. The game experienced strong performance as compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2020, including 18% growth in its audience size, 26% growth in new players and outstanding growth in recurrent consumer spending.

This performance was driven by both strong ongoing game sales and the continued influx of new players from the stand-alone version of Red Dead Online.

After the update dropped I think I´m been in one or two lobbies that was above 20 players! I think R* are still struggling with spawning events in free mode and keeping bodies long enough to make us have the time to loot them all. It wouldn´t surprise me they are poring resurses and quite lot of them in to the P2P system.

It is deader than games such as Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Farming Simulator 19 apparently. 😂

ETS 2 is quite popular I believe, has a nice fanbase and a good mod community so I would expect ETS 2 to be more popular then RDO anyway.

lol, of course. They are super vague in the descriptions, so everyone logs in to see what's new.

They just report the spikes in concurrent players.

This argument is pretty disingenuous. You're comparing popular PC first titles (FS19 does have console ports but I'd argue it's more popular on PC) with a game that came out on PC after a year of it's console release where it already sold 27 million copies by then. Even the PC launch was staggered where the Steam version came out last. The majority of it's playerbase is on consoles, just like GTAO.

I'm actually surprised RDO standalone has more than 5k ccu daily with such lackluster support and it came out even further down the line in late 2020.

They do the same with GTAO and we all know how successful it is.

Those are from Steam numbers through the link I added in a previous post. The RDR2 version is hanging at around #40-45 consistently but that consists of players playing the story also so there is no way to determine how many are playing online through that version of the game which makes that number pointless, while RDO stand alone is hanging around #190-200 consistantly in the list of all games.

I would guess that the percentages of players playing RDR2/RDO on console (not actual raw number of players because obviously there are more console players of any game that has console and PC choices) compared to total number of players playing all games including RDR2 and RDO would be about the same.

Constantly throwing out raw numbers without any context is pointless. This is what pookee-pooh keeps doing. He also keeps mentioning how Take-Two says it has performed above expectations, but since he doesn't mention what those expectations were that is also a pointless statement. Even though this has been mentioned to him numerous times he continues to say things the same way over and over, no context.

Exactly the reason why it's utterly pointelss for you to say the game is dead or on the verge of death or anything regarding the player numbers per se.

There is only little official info available and that's from T2 earnings call which states both player numbers and MTX sales have increased noticeably. You can choose to believe it or not, I really don't care.

Even if only 5-10% people of the 38 million plays online that's 2-4 million playerbase which certainly ain't bad for a game with such lackluster support.

I'm looking forward to playing it, fingers crossed they did a good job.
They've done a lot of those for GTA Online, they seem to be widely liked, so you'd think they know how to get it right for RDO.

We'll see.... at least we'll have a new QDC to level up tomorrow, I'll be logging on

I think the highest player server I was in was 19 players, typically I see a bit more traffic after an update with content to do. Guess I was hoping for the small servers again.

as someone who plays it on pc weekly, even tabbed out now as i type this, there's 2 people in this server and usually i see 4-6 max (all lower level than me). I used to see a full server. I'm actually happy it is less like this too since I don't want to play with randoms, griefers and mod menu users but it's pretty empty and has been all summer. Even on the day the new DLC came out 8 people max for a week then less when GTA's dlc released.

I play RDO on PS4 and the lobbies are always over 10-15 people. (I last played it like about two weeks ago). I've honestly never seen that small lobbies except when Rockstar was actively making lobby size smaller to prevent spawn issues. In fact I do have animal spawn issues sometimes in those 15 player lobbies so I don't really know if Rockstar is doing things differently on PC or not.
