Now that I’ve gotten the 28 streak, I think I’m done with RDO until the next update arrives. I thought about inching my story progress from 95% to 100%, but then I saw that I’m still stuck at the Dominos challenge since last year, and I’m still plagued with the bug that made all of the orchids for Algernon Wasp disappear on me, so I’ve been done with the Story for a while now.

Personally I'd rather RDO take place in an alternate timeline, not limited to pre or post SP.

Same, a simple "The Van Der Lind Gang were caught by Pinkertons in an ambush as they reached the Grizzlies" would suffice. Just leave it open-ended so they can say members escaped and have them appear in Online later.

Oh, I fully agree. I've already assumed RDO to be its own timeline, separate and apart from story. Unlike GTA, there's no chubby hacker snidely referencing our characters. Sean never cracks at Arthur about "Some mute that I had running all over great plains." Our fight against the Del Lobo in Valentine isn't in the papers, nor is the successful robbery of Lemoyne National and ensuing gun battle across Saint Denis. We're already in a different world, I more meant just the post epilogue worldspace, with the ranches and the more built up towns and the rest.

If R* follows your idea of slowly moving the map forward in time it would be very cool, but I'm not sure they're willing to lock players out of the old map. And worse yet, unlike GTA, there's no reason to move time forward. Where GTAO sticking to 2013 would've hindered their ability to add new cars, songs, and other such things like that, RDO can be perpetually in 1898 with no issues. They're not about to add a 2019 Ford Raptor to the Valentine stables after all. And since there aren't precreated maps for each year in between '98 and '05, would they be willing to make them? I don't want to sound too cynical, I would like them to do something at least similar to that, I just think it's already a lost cause. I don't see time clicking past '98 anytime soon.

I didn't mean time progression as such, in that the old map etc. would change over time to match the beginning of RDR, I meant more along the lines of what @RyuNovasaid, an alternate universe where the world and it's inhabitants are very much the same, with the exception that the events of SP never take place.

That way it leaves us open to meeting SP characters without having our interactions limited by the SP story. It would also mean that the world could be changed/added to without the arguments of "Arthur can't give you that mission because it would affect or contradict X event in SP" or having to explain why a building added to RDO doesn't appear in SP just a matter of months later etc. etc.

GTAO taking place before the GTA V story pre Gunrunning and after the GTA V story post Gunrunning, but without any of the map changes brought about by the story is messy and could easily have been avoided with some forward planning. R* had the excuse of being in virgin territory with GTAO, that excuse no longer applies in the case of RDO IMO, not after running the most profitable entertainment product in history for almost 6 years. Mistakes should have been learned from.

The decision to, at worst, hamstring the potential progression of RDO by framing it as taking place pre RDR2 SP events and at best, make the whole timeline of RDO messy, is a mistake by R*.

Its easier to assume that the GTAO timeline split when Lester invited you to his House. In GTAV you said no and remained a low level unknown Gang Banger and he then enlisted Michael and Franklin but in GTAO you said yes and got high level jobs from Lester and Madrazo which caught the eye of people like Agent 14 etc.

Unless time is frozen in RDO I doubt the SP timeline will happen seeing as we have Sadie and Jake as mission givers and their "unfortunate circumstances" at the beginning of RDR2 are a major part in the direction the story goes.

That's a relief. I've read about the waypoint f*ck up, but as I don't play RDO on PC and haven't played SP today, I haven't witnessed it for myself. I'd be p*ssed off if the waypoint bug made its way onto console.

On the bright side it does make a waypoint to an icon you select now, so at least they're trying to make it less sh*t, but not very successfully yet.

EDIT: Jesus christ lol, after making and visiting a few waypoints it wont even make it in the center of the screen anymore, its pmuch completely random now..

Great Job R*, it only took 1 update to ruin the economy....

Thats the point. All part of R*'s long game.

If everyone is rich they can justify the absurd prices in future updates. People defended the insane price hikes in GTAO by saying that everyone were millionaires. Three thousand dollars for an apartment? Oh that's fine, its only six full Trader sales and twelve plus hours of grinding. Pretty much the same as GTAO to buy a new car.

What threw me for a loop was how expensive the clothes were in GTAO.

Same but we already see it in RDO. Look at the reskin we got the other week of the thick jacket. Was it two hundred and thirt dollars? Then look at the prices of the jackets that came with the game...like sixty dollars.

Thats six hours of grind just to afford a coat. A coat costs more than a gun!

One major thing I hated about this update for the roles is the fact that we gain role levels to unlock items to make them available to buy.....whaaaa???!!!! Come on man

And they cost stupid amounts of Gold. Eight Gold for the Expedition Hat? How about no?

Locking much requested items behind the grind wall like eyepatches, glasses and trigger gloves is a sh*t move as well.

I'm surprised clothing cost gold anyway. I get if its some type of antique artifact that we are sporting, but most of this is regular clothes of the period with a crazy color spectrum. I like how the Outlaw Pass dealt with unlocks, where you reach the rank and the item is yours. I guess since the Pass items don't have various colors it works, but lawd have mercy......8 bars for a hat.......

I am fine with items costing Gold but dont lock them to Gold. Gold OR Dollars and dont level lock cosmetics and then charge TEN TIMES the price to unlock it immediately. Forty f*cking Gold to unlock the Leather Duster before level 96.

No problem. I hope you can get it solved. Eliminate the easiest possible causes first, to spare yourself a lot of work just to discover your disc is the culprit

So, I thought since we had this little chat, I might as well update you on what I did to solve the issue...for now. The disc was not the culprit, unsurprisingly (since all my other disks are working). Maybe if somebody runs into a similar issue sometime, this will be of help.

What I did:

- deleted RDR2 game file and all save data

- power off PS4, boot up in safe mode > rebuilt database

- run install again with the discs; internet connection OFF.

On 1.00 version. Game has launched with no issues. Now obviously I have no online access, but I can only assume my patch 1.14 had a file corruption. I don't see no other logical explanation.

Ah! Too bad it wasn't the simplest solution (get a new disc), but good to see it is probably indeed a corrupted previous install. I've learned my lesson with game discs in the past and only buy my games from the PSN store, to avoid disc issues. Then again, that wouldn't have helped in your case at all. Thanks for the update. I really hope you get this solved and maybe help others with the same problem. Nothing to bitch and moan about that for sure :D

It's even more apparent when you realize you have to attain a rank then spend $400 for a shovel... a f*cking shovel.

You have to buy a shovel instead of being able to pick up the 8 shovels you came across earlier that day...

You're right, $400 for a shovel is ridiculous but that thing will make you crazy money once you once you learn the ropes.

Thx Sony, great job you f*ckers. Console is 6 months old and already giving me that sh*t. Pro they said..

Not sure if you are still having issues but I do suggest clearing the cache of your game before trying other stuff, might work.

Still it's a f*cking shovel, my horse trips over 3 a day that would move dirt as easily.

No need to respond, I understand the game mechanics it just floors me that I have to spend $400 for a f*cking shovel, In 1898. A f*cking $20 in 2019 dollars, shovel.

Keep in mind you could buy a CAR for $1000 in 1898, so in R* logic a f*cking SHOVEL is 40% of the cost of a f*cking AUTOMOBILE. Or equivalent of the cost of my Klaudhopper but probably didn't crash as often.

Its simple, take everythings real world value and times it by ten and you have the price that R* will charge for it.

I know that, like I said "ridiculous", but Nazar will pay you $650 for a set of coins dug up with the same shovel. That $650 is also very inflated money for 1899. Plus you can keep on repeating that set if you willing to do the work. I'm at least $8000.00 ahead for my $400 investment, I'll take it.

Can't remember if it was $300 or $350. But either way, that much for a shovel, they're off to a good start.

I got to $10k and got bored, 300 gold too. In that era, I'd be a king, well sort of, lol. But here even with that much, I feel like Oliver Twist before he met Fagin!

I think a shovel back in the day was about $0.50 or something. A weeks wages for a male construction worker was around $32 for 5 days labour. We're having GTAO fares already.

Some time ago I bought a new hat, resembling the Kennedy hat in the game. Mine was $3 cheaper than the one in game. 🤔🤔

The point is... you‘re not paying 300$ for a shovel, you‘re paying for a tool which makes you rich.
i actually don‘t care if the shovel costs that much, since you‘ll have that money back after collecting for half an hour.

back then not only shovels weren‘t that expensive, but also you weren‘t able to find some old jewelry, precious arrow heads and other stuff underneath every second stone.

there are really more significant issues with this game rather than a shovel costing 300$.

What p*ssed me off more than the increasing prices (we all knew it would happen) was gameplay functions such as Eagle Eye + being tied to the progression of a specific role.

I'm all for high level Bounty Hunters getting gun spinning, Collectors getting slightly reduced search areas, Traders getting perfect+ carcasses etc., but something as useful across the board as EE+ should have been an Ability Card, or preferably, R* should introduce trinkets and talismans to RDO, only let us wear a very limited number and attach perks such as EE+ to those.

I don't want to have to progress every future role just so I'm not gimping myself by missing out on role specific perks that are useful across all gameplay.
