Why do people get defensive af when you ring up the fact Claude might be anything but white

So Claude doesn’t have an official race/ethnicaty (rockstar doesn’t even seem to officially agree on his skintone) 

I personally think Claude is Asian. It makes sense considering he does have some  Asian features and that he was a triad in the games beta

He’s also from San Fierro a parody of San Francisco. A town with a high percentage of Asian citizens

So many people claim it’s IMPOSSIBLE he’s not white. And their reasoning is so dumb

”But he’s supposed to be a self insert!” 
so? Even rockstar knows not only white prople play their game. Why is being white the default to you?

Well, there's nothing wrong with your Asian race accusations as in the early works, Claude's face was looking really Asian, at least from my point of view.. The only thing I am always offended is calling Claude from GTA 3 Claude Speed, while there's no 100% proof of that besides that both Claude Speed from GTA 2 and Claude from GTA 3 share the name and similar appearance. And yes, I know about Rockstar's statement "His surname may or may not be Speed", but that's not a valid proof to call him Speed.

 

Back to topic, I guess American is the race many people could think of while playing for the first time, but I guess Asian is not a bad choice either.

Well, he's certainly not of African descent.

 

He may or may not be Hispanic. Hispanic isn't a race, and there are Hispanic people of many colors.

 

He could be half-Asian, his face definitely does look a bit more Asian.

 

For some reason I always suspected he was of Eastern European descent.

Claude was always meant to join up with the Leones, based on multiple pre-release sources going as early as summer-autumn 2000.

I'm Asian, but I don't have squinty eyes and am what general public would consider white.

 

But if what you mean is that Claude possesses mongoloid features - I wouldn't argue with that. Claude's appearance combined with low texture quality can equally make him of both Caucasian and Mongoloid descent.

We just know that he's designed after Luke Perry with some bits from a DMA Design dev from information we have from R*.

Asians aren't a monolithic category. 

 

Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians, Kazakhs, Tajiks, etc. All these groups have distinct languages, appearances, cultures, etc. Hell, people from the Levant, Caucasus, Mesopotamia and Turkey can be considered Asian.

For one reason or another, I’m under the impression that Claude is of partial Native American and European ancestry. Apart from Claude, the only other GTA protagonists whom I believe is partially Native American is Luis Lopez, who is also part Hispanic and also possibly part black. I’m also under the impression that Niko Bellic is of at least partial Turkic ancestry. Huang Lee is indisputably Asian as he’s ethnically Chinese. Native Americans are ethnically similar to Asians and Turks as I’ve heard before. Victor Vance is part Hispanic and black. CJ and Franklin are full African ancestry and Johnny Klebitz is Ashkenazi Jewish (which is believed to be mostly mixed Hebrew, German, and Slavic ancestry with possible Turk in there somewhere as well). Toni Cipriani and Tommy Vercetti are ethnic Italians but that’s Southern European and a lot of them are of mixed Moor descent from back in the early Middle Ages I think I’ve heard before. So I think Michael and Trevor are kinda the only two GTA protagonists who are full blooded northern, central or Western Europeans.

There's a certain group of British people that resemble Roman emperors by their facial features. I'd like to think that they are the descenders of the Roman invaders. Michael in fact looks very much like someone I know, so I've always thought that his predecessors come from Britain, and originally Italy - just like you said.

You see the definition of ethnicity changes over time. The people living in ancient Rome weren't exactly the modern Italians. 

 

CJ and Franklin certainly aren't of "Full African ancestry" - they're African American and probably have some European/Native American ancestry.

This. Claude is American not British, but he's pretty clearly anglo. Scott Maslen who played Claude in the GTA 2 movie is also English.
