Anywhere USA
My reasoning is GTA LCS is the only other game where I have to keep close track of gangs to avoid making side missions nearly impossible, it's got the second least side content according to google too. Vice City has properties and asset missions, Vice City Stories has empire building, San Andreas has....everything. Those are all more diverse and open games I want to experience properly without a bunch of planning and forelooking. Sorta like how I played GTA 4, alot more chilled out and less rushing through it, except unlike GTA 4, there's alot of side content like property stuff(GTA 5 also had that kind of thing I think, but I never did it). GTA LCS isn't that, i would be playing it the same way I did GTA 3. Not to mention those two have tied in stories
Guest
VC is the better game IMO, LCS didn't really add that much to the series, though it's still worth a playthrough. Play VC first if you want see how Rockstar North improved upon III with its successor. Play LCS first if it helps that you're already familiar with III's city and how to avoid its gangs (in LCS the gangs aren't quite as dangerous as in III, but I would still highly recommend doing side content early). The second reason is the main one. I'm probably not going to be quite as diligent on side content, I don't think anything in LCS will match the threat of the Saint Marks Shotgun (That, and to a lesser extent, Cartel's with AK-47s, are the only really game locking threats in III. The Triads and Diablos and Yardies don't have enough firepower to really ruin any side missions) After GTA LCS is done, I'll probably take a break from the 3-D games for a while, do GTA2 and GTA Advance. GTA 1 and London are the only two I plan on skipping because of just how bad they control. GTA 2 is one of my favs actually Edited June 30, 2021 by Anywhere USA

I'd still do side-missions like Paramedic early in Portland before any of the gangs get hostile, there is still a risk of having the tire of your car punctured. The Leones of the Saint Mark's district are neutral to you in LCS though and the Cartel only carry Uzis, no need to worry about AKs or shotgunners this time. I'm doing Paramedic as we speak, already got Firetruck and the first RC race out of the way. Lot of misc racing and shooting side missions, none of those get gang f*cked? The Diablos don't spawn often, are mostly passive, and even if you get attacked by them, they don't normally use guns (unless you jump on a car - i think this is some weird programming error). Weird though that this also applies to the unarmed Diablos.

IMO the idea that each city has its own type of collectible in SA is fine, but the 50 Oysters scattered all over the map are horrendous. Side-content wise VCS is the most horrendous 3D era game though IMO: 15(!) levels of Paramedic, Firefighter, Vigilante, Air Rescue(!) and Beach Patrol(!) + Fire Copter as well. Also delivering slow-ass boats for an import/export list. Your empire sites in VCS are also attacked more frequently than gang territories in SA. (Also, alot of the hidden packages seem to require boats and sh*t, and I can't find a good video on it that's easy to follow. I've done Firetruck, Ambulance, and the first RC mission. Once I've done the Rampages on Portland, I'll probably start the story up, it should be fine, yes?)

The Noodle Punk delivery side-mission would also be good to complete before the Triads get hostile and also as a reward you get +25% more health. But yeah, otherwise feel free to progress with the story as far as I'm concerned.

(Also, as hard as VCS might or might not be, that one doesn't make itself nearly impossible due to gangs. GTA 3 is borderline softlocked in any missions that require Saint Marks, and the AK-47 cartel is a huge problem too. GTA LCS from what I've heard never gets quite that bad, but it still gets way harder if you don't plan ahead. The other 3 are mostly fine so I'll play those in a more relaxed manner)

Vice City as a whole just doesn't interest me as much, I hate that neon 80s ascethic, I vastly prefer a 70s style mob story.

With that one though, there's this weird thing where the Cubans and Haitians will actively engage in killing each other in both Little Haiti and Little Havana so that's something to look out for. Anywhere USA
Absolutely loving GTA LCS so far. Story is fun, reminds me alot of what I loved about the first act of GTA 4. Also been replaying GTA 2 again(though not for 100%, those 2-D games were not meant for that and it's a bitch to do, I'll do it some day though), very, VERY fun game. Definitely better then III, not sure whether I prefer it or LCS yet Edited July 8, 2021 by Anywhere USA
universetwisters
I'd say Vice City is the shortest, just because you already have your mansion in less than an hour if you're quick about it. jaljax and Kaname Madoka
GhettoJesus
Plus one for Vice City, especially since you can abuse Cone Crazy for millions of dollars which lets you buy and complete assets quickly. After that you can just focus on the side content.
H-G
Each GTA game's length depends on how fast you complete it, speedrunners can complete it as fast as under one day. H-G's Workshop https://gtaforums.com/topic/905964-h-gs-workshop/
