This is just a reminder about why you don't need to put your hearts and souls in a online game, eventually everything will be gone and so will your entire in game progress, the only thing left will be your achievements and/or trophies.

GTA Online is such a massive success that I doubt it's going anywhere any time soon. Eventually a new map and engine will be needed to support all the new content. It is likely the GTA Online will be it's own game for the foreseeable future and may be updated/upgraded upon a new game release. There's a lot of content here that people spend a sh*t load of money on, and as long as that continues, it ain't going anywhere.

But GTA Online on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 isn't strong anymore.

People we’re still playing, hell people were still playing gta 4 online last time I checked, about a year ago.  R* is in penny pinch mode for some reason.

There were no DLC's for more than 6 years, but despite that PS3 sessions were full yesterday and days prior.

you can say that about your job, your relationships, your hobbies, possessions, family, money, interests. it's all gone at some point, if anything being able to get invested in such nonsense without feeling the dread of it being over one day is a blessing

And video footage, character features by game publishers, character illustrations, and one of my original characters has a voice actress and soon an animation to go with the voice acting. I'm in hurry up and wait mode for that at the moment.

I just wish that, when the day comes and GTAO shuts down permanently, we could be able to download the map and our stuff. I would love to just open the game from time to time, pick one of my favorite cars and drive from coast to coast with those lovely sunsets in the background.

Yes, it would be like a ghost town, but a very beautiful one.

Actually come to think of it, when it comes to the GTA IV multiplayer, aside from Sony/Microsoft handling the majority of that sh*t as opposed to GTA Online which Rockstar majorly handles, there's not a lot of data stored on GTA IV multiplayer. Just money (level) and some preferences. As opposed to GTA Online where there's a ton of sh*t in play.

But GTA Online is not a good game to last another 10 years without some major, serious overhauls regarding servers, connectivity issues, rebalancing features and content(weapons, cars, etc...) and a major change in creative vision.

It needs to, in essence, turn into what FiveM is if it wants to survive and last as long as those games you mentioned.

I wonder if it was wise from their perspective to shut them down. 🤔 I get the whole hard to maintain these old consoles thing, but now fish card buyers could wonder what's the point to buy fish cards if their game progress after a few years will be flushed away with shut down button, without any chance to transfer it. Who says that later the same thing won't happen with PS4 and Xbox One? I mean won't it decrease their fish card sales numbers?

Or am I missing something important here? 🤨

yea it may dissuade people from buying those slimy ass eelcards in the future, but the main reason they shut down last gen is because of all the modders giving people billions. it cut into their irl profits

I would argue that most fishcard buyers are not thinking that far.

Look at Fifa for example. You get people who spend multiple hundert or even multiple thousand dollar on these packs wich will be worthless 1 year later.

I completely forgot that PS3 and Xbox 360 public lobbies weren't much better than PC's public lobbies. 🙄  I guess it was better to shut them down than banning people for accepting money from the modders because most people nowadays don't buy these consoles anyway, which means that chances to get new players for this game on PS3 and Xbox 360 are practically nonexistent.

But there are some buyers who think that far which is why R* could get less money than before from these fish card buyers. All because they decided to shut down GTA Online for PS3/Xbox360, leaving some of them to wonder if it's even worth it to buy their damn cards. Here I thought every dollar matters to them. I guess it's not really like that.

I am sorry guys but I have to quote my post from a different topic that is hidden below. I hope there is someone who shares the same feelings. This event was quite important for me, however it may sound :) I just wanted to describe my last two days with GTA Online for old generation consoles (Xbox 360 in my case).

What is weird for me is that I could only find empty sessions and there were no players at all. I was getting a lot of invites but it looked like matchmaking was just failing to find other players. It was a bit sad because I had to enjoy the last moments completely alone. Could you find anyone guys?

Of course I joined but there is too much to even screenshot. By the way, I had 5 months to buy a screen capture device and failed to do so.

I am lucky that I can at least join. Anyway, the sessions seem to be completely empty. Maybe that is the problem of my connection but I get all the invites. I think that old gen Online is pretty much empty nowadays.

My Lord, it is the end of an era. Just after I joined the nostalgia hit me so bad I was about to shed tears. All those years spent on oldgen. Damn. After I noticed all those playlists like: Potshot x16, Coveted x5, it hit me even harder. Spent a lot of time in Rooftop Rumble as well.

I failed to even unlock the GTA Online Xbox 360 Achievements connected with Heists. But still, I think it is time to move on. Old gen GTA Online was pretty limited but old gen GTA V in general is just straight CLASSIC 10/10 game and I am thankful we can still launch it on those old consoles. It has a specific atmosphere. After all these years in new gen, I have to say, it looks like a totally different game to me.

Definitely, even the GUI is much different from the new gen GTA Online and it gives that feeling I cannot even describe. I spent a long time downloading all the DLCs as well and I had to even update the dashboard of my Xbox 360, which has not been launched since 2015. When I was downloading those DLCs, pause music was being played and that is when the nostalgia kicked in - especially because of the melody (2:13).

Practically, there are no words to describe what I feel so I will just leave this here. What do you think will happen after they shutdown the servers? It would be cool to know the exact time of the shutdown.

Oh yeah for sure, it was an end of an era. I mean we can still play GTA Online now...but these versions was where it all started.

I could only find empty lobbies as well. However, eventually while roaming around a lobby for like two hours, someone joined the lobby I was in. I attempted to approach them, but they wanted to be left alone it seemed. My car was hit a by a few bullets to say the least... 😅 I noticed there was quite a bit of cop cars around them, so I figure they wanted to just go out blastin'.
