GTA Online for PS3/Xbox 360 shutting down December 16th, 2021

You pretty much can't play in a public lobby at this point. Just for fun I decided to load one up the other day to see how bad it was and within 90 seconds was teleported outside of a Los Santos Customs with the rest of the players in the lobby where masses of XP and money were being dropped. This isn't a recent development either, it has been at least a couple of years since I loaded up GTA Online on PS3 and even longer since I last properly played it, but I remember back then being spammed with fake "Rockstar Message" notifications and constant explosions being set off near all players. Even as far back as when updates were still being developed for it I remember several friends being given millions by modders in public lobbies.

 

It's virtually unplayable if you're not playing with friends at this point, which is why I'm not surprised that they've decided to make the decision to shut it down. It had a great run, but I personally can't see how anyone could enjoy the current state of the game on these platforms.

Towards the end of me playing on the X360 in 2019 I saw an influx of new players that were mostly from overseas. I play in the overnight hours so I would see a lot of people from Europe playing. As well as Australia and New Zealand. I'm sure those players would like to be able to transfer their characters.

As for modded ranks, like both of my characters have, just filter them out. I've played over 250 days on the 360. Just set the rank to how many days that character has been played. Or cap it at 120.

I first learned coding WAY back in 1982. And Microsoft SQL beginning in 2000.

It's just not that hard to write a process to filter out all of the modded stuff on a database file.

All it really takes is to just have someone in authority at R* to say "Do it."

This makes me a little sad. You can still find full lobbies on auto aim. The free aim lobbies are pretty dead. You can't really have any fun with all the cheaters though.

Um.. what? The topic is unpinned because it no longer is "breaking news" and we usually only keep general topics (screenshots, videos, etc.) and the latest weekly bonuses/news temporarily pinned, as always, so it's not cluttered as all hell at the top? If no one replied to the topic, it's not because it's not pinned, anyone could've come back to it and continued the discussion regardless. Over the years in this very forum we've seen pinned topics not being replied to for weeks in this and other sections.

 

Maybe don't necrobump topics without replies for 3 weeks with absolute nonsense in future. How is this negative marketing anyway? Not like you're going to change their decision of maintaining old servers just because you personally don't like it. It was going to happen regardless.

 

EDIT: In addition, if any of the things you said made any sense, the topic would be locked, deleted, or whatever, not simply unpinned?  People have been free to discuss it forever, it's not locked.

You'd think "the game shuts down at this specific date" would at least stay pinned until the shut down date has arrived, not when it's "breaking news." This is the kind of info that needs to stay on-top as a reminder that it's happening and not as the hot news of the day.

Eh, people said the same thing about the PS3/Vita store shutdown. Giving platforms to vent about it have changed Sony's direction, at least for the PS3 and Vita. PSP is still cruelly butchered but better than nothing I guess. So I don't agree with "it was going to happen regardless."

But why sould it be on top the whole time. I mean every one knows by now that the severs are going down. That was just 1 importent info and nothing more. Ik a lot of emotions are going into this topic but like he said it will happen. 

This thread is here to share ur opinion and bc of that it dosent have nr.1 priority.

That's like a whole platform and this is an older version of a single game. I recall most of the games that were doomed to vanish upon store closure were SP games whereas this on the other hand is a multiplayer mode. And the online of this older version is filled with cheaters ruining lobbies and old exploits likely patched in the current version, yet still work over there. Also, no financial incentive for Rockstar to u-turn on this decision. Not like shark card sales would skyrocket upon doing that.

 

At least on PC, FiveM exists which fostered the growth of role-playing communities and it requires ownership of an official copy to play over there.

On a side note, I don't know when they did, but R* removed snapmatic for 360/PS3  from social club. That is a real bummer. I had a lot of fond memories on my 360 gallery. 

 

I am all for them closing the chapter on old gen( All things must come to an end), but snapmatic was a documentation of the history of GTA. Our galleries should be preserved. Again a major corporation tries to cover up and change history... R* is completely cancel pilled like every other big Corp.

This stuff is still pissing me off.

Not that they are doing it but how they are doing it.

No transfers for people who are still stuck there because they could not afford a new console back then. Yet they still sell cashcards for these systems until September (if I remember correctly, could be later but I really dont give a f*ck its a later point then their announcement of them shutting it down).

Thats pisspoor community management in my book.

Sh*t like that is the reason why I will bever buy a console or spend real money on an online game.

A good while ago unfortunately. Quite a lot of pics that people embedded directly broke here on GTAF too after that. Feel like they could've kept the images hosted, even if they weren't allowing new submissions.

Snapmatic kept me playing through some of the lack luster times. Even on current gen consoles it's pretty broken. Half my gallery fails to load. Other than crew colors it was the only reason I use social club. R* has practically given up on it now, tho. Kinda sad as it was a unique feature and one that worked well imo.

For this reason, never trust cloud storage. Game files, save games, photos, other files. Cloud storage is always a risk. That's why I also invested in a NAS with its own cloud. I know console gamers are often locked into their options. I just wanted to address it in general for all files.

In fairness, on PC you get easily accessible local saves, and then a copy in the R* Cloud. I do know it's a bit more cumbersome to backup saves on console though.

they still haven't fixed the Snapmatic problem of selfies/mugshots taken after the Tuners update where they can't be set as profile pic for Social Club. they migrated their servers for screenshots but somehow in the process they forgot that those picture create a small.jpg file that is used as the avatar on the site. this means that new pictures are loaded but since the small.jpg isn't generated (or something like that) then it's just text

 

so what's the point of migrating servers if they are going to break a feature in the process? they just suck, 2 months and still no fix

Missed this thread and news the first time around.

 

I'm not on old gen anymore and haven't been for years, but still think this is a little sad. More so for the people that never transferred and still play there of course. It would be really nice if Rockstar would patch it so you could at least play in solo sessions only; the game is 99% client-side anyway, all you need is a local save and some of the files like tunables that used to come from the server, now on your console. I know it's more complex than that, but not so much to be impossible for a company as big as they are to tackle. (I also know they aren't going to bother.)

 

People spent as much as eight years living with their character. I'm sure some of them would like to still be able to go back, even if it's just them in a session alone.

The Snapmatic gallery itself is pretty pointless when you can screenshot a higher resolution capture using the same filters, frames etc., and upload them anywhere.

I'm on Mobile so I use snapmatic to temporarily host my pics before I can back them up to my phone and whichever photo hosting site.
