Grand Theft Auto III Chain Game Round 122

The Grand Theft Auto III Chain Game is a community based relay game where players work as a team, each taking it in turn to contribute progress towards the goal for each round. In this round we're completing the PC Version of Grand Theft Auto III "from Zero to Hero", starting at the very beginning and playing until we've achieved 100% completion.

We welcome both new and existing players to the game, including those who just want to take the one turn and those who wish to become regulars and participate over several rounds. If you're new, take a look at the "Quick Start Guide" below which will guide you on the basic rules and practices of the game. Once you understand how it works, you're free to jump in and participate, but it's strongly advised you read the full set of rules later on to avoid causing disruption to the progress of the round.

Quick Start Guide

This Quick Start Guide is designed to familiarise you with the rules of the Chain Game so that you can get right into the action and take your first turn!

Take a Turn
Get started by making a post in this thread stating your intention to take a turn if there is no current turn in progress. A simple "I'll take a turn" will be enough, but you're free to be as creative as long as your intention is clear.

If you've already taken a turn earlier in the round, you may only take another turn if there has been either two further valid turns completed or an uninterrupted four hour period has passed since the completion of your latest turn.

Download the Save File
Download the save file from the last completed turn post in this thread.

Make Progress
You have three hours to complete your turn, during which you may complete up to one story or payphone mission and as many side missions as you wish.

You are not allowed to get busted, wasted, or fail any mission or side mission that contributes to the "Mission Attempts" statistic. If this happens, you must restart your turn, load a save file made earlier in your turn, or forfeit.

You are also not allowed to use any cheats, trainers, CLEO scripts or modifications. This does not include SilentPatch, Widescreen Fix and other exceptions listed later in the post.

Any turn that does not meet the rules will be invalidated and the progress of the round will be reverted, discarding any progress made in the turn.

Save and Upload
Complete your turn by saving the game and uploading the save file on GTASnP.com. You may use another upload service if you choose, but it must allow free download access without the need for registration.

Edit Your Post
Edit the post you made to take the turn, adding a link to your uploaded save file and noting the completion percentage. You must also ensure you note everything you completed, including the quantity and location of any collectibles, rampages and jumps and any relevant score or time you achieved in a mission. We recommend you format this information using the Posting Format in the section below, which can also be found partially completed on the GTASnP.com page for your save file.

Posting Format

Completed turns must include information on what has been completed during the turn, the current completion percentage, and a download link to the save file. It is recommended that you use the following template in your post, but feel free to be creative and make your post look fancy with cool fonts and colours provided it remains readable:

Mission:
Link:
Completion:
Notes:

Mission
Write the name of any mission you completed, such as "Luigi's Girls". We also recommend you note the names of any side missions you complete, such as "Patriot Playground". Please try and use the English mission name where possible to help us out for the lists, even if you play the game in a different language.

Link
Post the URL to where your save file can be downloaded.

Completion
Note the current completion percentage, which can be found in the stats menu or on GTASnP.com.

Notes
Use this field to note where any collectibles you picked up were, the time or score you achieved in a mission, if you raised your health or any other information that may be useful. If you have nothing to note, you may leave this section out.

The Rules

The rules are designed to ensure that the game remains fair and enjoyable, and should be read through and understood by all players to avoid causing disruption to the progress of the round.

General Rules

Game Version
You will need to own Grand Theft Auto III on PC in order to participate. Any version will be compatible with the save file we are using, including the retail disc release, versions running patch 1.1, and the digital releases on Steam and Rockstar Launcher.

Respect Rule
We expect all members of our community to show respect to each other, and keep in mind that our community consists of members from varied backgrounds. There is a zero tolerance policy on any form of discrimination, including comments about age, gender, political views, nationality, sexuality or religious views. This also serves as a violation of the GTAForums Rules.

We also expect that no member is mocked for making a mistake or violating the rules in their turn. It's important to remember that we all make mistakes and this game is intended to be fun for everyone.

The Chain Game Lounge and Discussion Groups
You should only post in this thread when participating in the round. If you'd like to ask a question, share something from your turn, or chat with members of the community, we invite you to use one of the following platforms:

The Chain Game Lounge - The central hub for the Grand Theft Auto III Chain Game. Follow the Lounge to receive the latest announcements and news, additional guidance for issues you may encounter, and use it to ask questions directly for the benefit of both yourself and the entire community.

Discord Server - Chat with the members of our community and get instant notifications of the latest news and round launches. You'll need to be approved by a member of staff to access the server, for which you should have a strong interest in the Chain Game and a GTAForums Account.

Steam Group - Connect with the members of our community and keep up to date with the latest updates and round launches in our news forum.

Twitter Page - Follow the latest updates and round launches for the game, get sneak peeks of what we're working on, learn about historic moments in our community, and enjoy weekly trivia.

Taking a Turn

Get started by making a post in this thread stating your intention to take a turn if there is no current turn in progress. A simple "I'll take a turn" will be enough, but you're free to be creative as long as your intention is clear. If multiple players make a post at the same time, the player whose post appears first is the one who takes the turn.

You are not allowed to reserve turns. Do not make a post when another turn is in progress, and do not contact other players asking for them to either take or not take turns in a way that may benefit you.

Wait Rules
If you have already taken a turn in the round, you must wait for one of the following criteria to be met before you take another. Note that forfeited and invalid turns do not count towards the Wait Rules.

Two Turns: You may take a turn after two or more consecutive turns are completed by other players, since the completion of your previous turn.

Four Hours: You may take a turn after a four hour period passes with no turns being taken, at any time since the completion of your previous turn. Make a note in your turn post if this is the case.

Three Hour Time Limit
You have three hours to complete your turn, which is counted from the time you submitted your post until the time you edited in the completed save file. In exceptional circumstances only, you may request and be granted a time extension from a member of staff.

Forfeiting
You can forfeit your turn by editing your turn post, removing where you stated your intention to take a turn, and mentioning that you wish to forfeit. This counts as an invalid turn and we recommend only forfeiting as a last resort if you find yourself unable to complete your turn. It should be noted that any form of contribution is accepted as a completed turn, even if you only manage to complete a few Taxi Fares.

Downloading the Save File

Download the save file from the last completed turn and place it in the "GTA3 User Files" folder on your system. If you feel that the link to the save file is suspicious, let us know.

Making Progress

You have three hours to complete your turn, during which you may complete up to one story or payphone mission and as many side missions as you wish. That's plenty of time to sit back, relax, and have some fun!

Important Information
No Busts or Wastes: You are not allowed to get busted or wasted during your turn. If this happens, you must either restart your turn, load a save file made earlier in your turn, or forfeit.

No Failure: You are not allowed to fail any mission or side mission that contributes to the "Mission Attempts" statistic during your turn, including all Story and Payphone Missions, "Off Road Challenges" and "TOYZ Missions". If you fail any of these as a result of bad luck or by getting busted or wasted, you must either restart your turn, load a save file made earlier in your turn, or forfeit.

An exception is made only for the collection of Special Vehicles. You are free to fail a story mission to collect a vehicle that requires failure, but must not fail more times than is necessary.

No Cheats or Modifications: You are not allowed to use any cheats, trainers, CLEO scripts or modifications that are not in the exceptions list below during your turn. It is possible to cause unexpected issues to the save file through the use of these, and we do not expect that any player should have to resort to cheating to be able to complete any given mission. We recommend that you use a completely unmodified installation of the game for use in the Chain Game.

Allowed Modifications: While the rules state that no modifications are allowed, this particularly pertains to content changing modifications and limit adjusters. We do allow for the following "unofficial patches" to be used on your installation of the game:

We are open to allowing other modifications that act as "unofficial fixes" or are known not to affect save files, but ask us first.

On Mission Flag Manipulation: You are not allowed to manipulate the On Mission Flag (commonly referred to as "OM0") in any form during your turn.

An exception is made only for the collection of Special Vehicles if it is absolutely necessary and does not cause any undesirable side effects such as adding a permanent marker to the radar.

The Replay Feature: You are not allowed to use the Replay Feature during any mission, rampage or vehicle activated side mission as it is possible to exploit the game to instantly pass missions, increase ammunition on weapons and manipulate scores and times.

However, you are free to use it outside of these missions during general gameplay and when searching for Hidden Packages and completing Unique Jumps, as long as the feature is not exploited in a way that may affect the save file, the completion percentage, or any completion requirement.

Missions
The One Named Mission Rule: You are only allowed to complete one named mission during your turn, but are free not to complete any should you not wish to. A "named mission" is a story or payphone mission that changes the name of the save file, such as "Last Requests" or "Rumble".

Exceptions to the One Named Mission Rule: The following Cutscene Missions, Off Road Challenges and TOYZ Missions are all considered exceptions to the one named mission rule and you may complete as many as you wish during your turn, and can combine these with a named mission if desired. This is because Cutscene Missions are considered "low effort" and do not require the player to complete any task, and "Off Road Challenges" and "TOYZ Missions" are considered side missions.

Cutscene Missions

  • "Bomb Da Base: Act I"
  • "Bomb Da Base: Act II" (First Cutscene)
  • "Love's Disappearance"
  • "Ransom"

Off Road Challenges

  • "Patriot Playground"
  • "Multistorey Mayhem"
  • "A Ride In The Park"
  • "Gripped!"

TOYZ Missions

  • "Diablo Destruction"
  • "Mafia Massacre"
  • "Casino Calamity"
  • "Rumpo Rampage"

Mission Scores and Times: You must note the score or time you achieved as written in the stats menu if you completed any of the following missions:

  • "Turismo" - Note the Race Time
  • "Bling-Bling Scramble" - Note how many Checkpoints Collected
  • "Smack Down" - Note how many Yardies Killed
  • "Rigged to Blow" - Note the Bomb Defusal Time

High Priority Missions
Locked Missions: Completing certain missions earlier than intended will result in remaining missions for some contacts to become permanently unavailable. This prevents 100% completion and would therefore prevent us from being able to achieve our goal this round, so the following missions should all be completed before the mission in which they become unavailable.

The following missions must be completed before "Last Requests" before they become unavailable:

  • "Pump-Action Pimp" (Luigi Goterelli)
  • "The Fuzz Ball" (Luigi Goterelli)
  • "Dead Skunk In The Trunk" (Joey Leone)
  • "The Getaway" (Joey Leone)

The following missions must be completed before "Waka-Gashira Wipeout" before they become unavailable:

  • "Kanbu Bust-out" (Kenji Kasen)
  • "Grand Theft Auto" (Kenji Kasen)
  • "Deal Steal" (Kenji Kasen)
  • "Shima" (Kenji Kasen)
  • "Smack Down" (Kenji Kasen)

The following mission must be completed before "Grand Theft Aero" before it becomes unavailable:

  • "Two-Faced Tanner" (Asuka Kasen)

Gang Hostility Missions: After the completion of each of the following missions, a gang will become hostile towards the player. It is recommended that side missions such as "Paramedic" are completed before these missions as the increased hostility will make them more difficult to complete:

  • "The Pick-Up" or "Trial By Fire" - After whichever is completed first, the Liberty City Triads will become hostile.
  • "Sayonara Salvatore" - The Leone Family Mafia will become hostile.
  • "Uzi Rider" - The Diablos will become hostile.
  • "Kingdom Come" - The Yardies will become hostile.

Players should note that the Columbian Cartel are hostile from the beginning, and that the Yakuza, Red Jacks and Purple Nines will never become hostile.

Side Missions
Rampages: You may complete as many of the 20 rampages as you wish during your turn, and can combine these with a named mission if desired. Any rampages you complete must be noted down in your turn notes, either by the title as displayed when you collect the pickup, or alternatively a description of the location and the completion requirements.

Vehicle Missions: You may complete as many of the "vehicle missions" as you wish during your turn, and can combine these with a named mission if desired. Vehicle Missions refers to "Paramedic", "Firefighter", "Taxi Driver" and "Vigilante".

For each of these missions, you must note down how much of the requirement you completed, even after the requirement has been met. This is the number of patients delivered in "Paramedic", fires extinguished in "Firefighter", taxi fares completed in "Taxi Driver" and criminals killed in "Vigilante". For "Firefighter" and "Vigilante", you must also note which island these were completed on.

After "Paramedic" has been completed to Level 12, players should not complete it to Level 12 again due to an issue that causes the percentage to be re-awarded. Instead, players who wish to complete additional patients should only complete up to Level 11 and repeat as many times as desired.

Off Road Challenges and TOYZ Missions: You may complete as many "Off Road Challenges" and "TOYZ Missions" as you wish during your turn, and can combine these with a named mission if desired:

Off Road Challenges

  • "Patriot Playground"
  • "Multistorey Mayhem"
  • "A Ride In The Park"
  • "Gripped!"

TOYZ Missions

  • "Diablo Destruction"
  • "Mafia Massacre"
  • "Casino Calamity"
  • "Rumpo Rampage"

You must note down the time or score achieved when completing these missions, and if re-completing, should avoid saving after failed attempts to beat the record.

Hidden Packages and Unique Jumps: You may collect as many Hidden Packages and complete as many Unique Jumps as you wish during your turn, and can combine these with a named mission if desired. You must mention any collections or completions in your turn notes specifying their locations. If you have completed all that were available on an island or all that were remaining across the map, you may note it that way instead.

Import/Export: You may deliver as many of the 16 vehicles to the Portland Harbor Garage, 7 vehicles to the Emergency Vehicle Crane, and 16 vehicles to the Pike Creek Garage as you wish during your turn, and can combine these with a named mission if desired. Any vehicles you deliver must be noted down in your turn notes, or alternatively you can simply state if you have fully completed a list or name the remaining vehicles if you delivered most vehicles of a list.

Securicar Cracker Garage: You may deliver as many Securicars to the "Cracker Garage" in Portland Harbor as you wish during your turn, and can combine these with a named mission if desired. This is not required for 100% completion but will provide you with a cash reward up to 10 delivered vehicles.

Gameplay Methods
The Chain Game is designed to be open and allow players to choose their own mission strategies, and pursue additional fun activities such as purchasing weapons, respraying vehicles, installing car bombs or spending some time with the women of Liberty City. You may wish to note in your turn post if you completed any of these activities.

We also recommend that you save the game regularly to prevent a loss of progress if the game crashes, and that you consider filling up on Health and Armor before posting your turn for the convenience of the next player.

Save and Upload

Complete your turn by saving the game at a safehouse. You should save on an unlocked island and one where missions are available, and you should consider filling up on Health and Armor before posting your turn for the convenience of the next player.

After saving, uploading the save file on GTASnP.com.

We recommend you format this information using the Posting Format found earlier in the post, which can also be found partially completed on the GTASnP.com page for your save file.

Late Edit: If you wish to edit your post after completion to add more information, you must specify the time your post was originally edited so we know you didn't exceed the turn time limit. You can do this by adding an "Original Edit Time" line and stating the original edit time and also your time zone so the time isn't misinterpreted.

Violation of The Rules

Violation of the rules is taken seriously and will be dealt with appropriately by the staff. Turns that violate the rules will be invalidated and the progress of the round will be reverted, discarding any progress made. Players who repeatedly violate the rules may be temporarily or permanently excluded from participation in future rounds of the Chain Game. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the staff.

If you think you have spotted a violation of the rules, let us know. All reports are kept confidential and we appreciate the community helping us to keep the game in order. Ensuring we can deal with issues as early as possible will mean less interruption and loss of progress for the round.
