if i turn it on (and you need to turn it on manually in windows right, in your desktop settings/video settings)

but when i turn it on to 6x, i dont really see any differance, game just runs a bit slower

and wich 1 do you use? the direct 3d or the open gl?

thx

Use Direct3D and yes AA does make a difference. It smoothes the jagged edges out.

Im running this game at 4X AA, 4X AF 1600X1200 and im amazed how smooth it is. Im very pleased and what a beautiful game at those settings. And AA definitely makes a big difference! :inlove:

I run mine at 1024x768 with 6x AA and 16x AF and it runs very smooth, and i also have my locked refresh rate at 100hz so I am wondering why you would want to run the game at 1600x1200, I know the textures would be a little sharper... but i doubt u could have a refresh rate more than 75hz?... but whatever works for u all.  I just figure the bigger the refresh rate, the smoother and more fps u get but ill have to try the 1600x1200 resolution... but anyways yes AA does a hell of a difference!!  :)

I've had my radeon9700pro for a few months now... I still have YET to run a game with 6x AA, so I stick with 4x... I suppose I'll try 6x just to see how well GTA:VC looks on it...

With my XP 2100 and Ti 4400 I run it at 1280x1024x16 with Quincunx AA and 2x AF.  Why do I get the feeling I should be able to run a little better... my frame rates are marginal... anything more makes it slow down just too much at times.  Even now rain or the fog in Pole Position screws me.  Argh I hate not knowing jack sh*t when it comes to video

Honestly, when you throw a resolution of 1600x1200, the picture is not noticably better while playing. honestly, i run the game in 1280x1024x32, with 4xAA and 8xAF. The game isnt that much greater than without 4xAA. THe real difference is in the 8xAF. It improves the distance tectures and etc. to make it look nicer. All the AntiAliasing is doing, is smoothing out jagged edges, which when i turn my Resolution up that high, are non-existant really (it is noticable in a screen capture, but while playing, and even looking, its barely noticable.

If your PC is lagging with it, and you can run 1280x1024 no problems, dont worry about it. Your not missing out on much..... i think these people are more bragging they can do it, then really noticing a difference. I do however, recommend some form of Anistrophic Filtering, it does make distance textures look better, and has alot greater effect on hte graphics than AA, but less performance hit.

Dont know if these pics are even the best to justify my cause, but they will show you the difference each makes. IMO, hthe AF looks the best, because the real problem in the shot is the texturing, then the AA and the standard. Ofcourse had i used both at once, the image would be fault free..... Will do it on 3 posts, to better sort the images.

Firstly, this is it Standard:

Ok, sorry the images are distorted, the free host i chose is resizing them i guess. THey are orignally 1280x1024x32.... dont know if the differences will still show, but anyways.

Here is the same area, with 8 x Antistrophic Filtering.

and again,

This one, is with 4xAA. BTW, for the differences, look at the Railing beside him, and the gold strip above him, and the stairs themselves. I thought this was a good quick way to shop some objects that use both AA and AF if applied. Unfortunately, you have to look hard since they where resized, but of the originals, the AF was the winner. If you cant do both, the do AF.... if not that, then just keep a higher rez, rather then lower the rez and enable one (it defeats the purpose of AA, and AF would be blocky in 800x600)

The card you have is fine, mine is only a GeForce4 Ti4800se. Our cards are very similar in power, as are our systems

I got

P4 2.40bGhz @ 2.88Ghz (wouldnt make big difference)

ASUS P4PE /L (Same board LOL)

512mb DDR400 (160FSB)

GeForce4 Ti4800se

As for why it suddenly slows it down, im not sure. Mine hasnt had any real changes in performance, besides from chaging graphics settings outside the game...
