It's more for free-roam drifting or with a group in the open world. Some people will use AWD cars to try and keep up with the RWD drifters, even if the group says RWD ONLY. AWD drifting is a joke, but noobs will use it because it's the only way they can keep up with RWD drifters. They're too trash to avoid spinning out a RWD car, so they use AWD to make it easier for themselves.

 

Why it matters to me is to make it easier to call out AWD drifters who try to claim they're using RWD. There are some obvious ways to tell if someone is using AWD, but some will still deny using AWD. Some will even admit to using AWD with a 100% rear bias, which does not handle the same as a true RWD setup.

So it's been a few days since I started playing and I am absolutely loving it. I couldn't wait until it was midnight in the US so I did the NZ trick to steal some extra hours of play time. Personally, this is my favorite game since the original Horizon, and perhaps even one of the best Forzas I've played, which would surpass FM4 as my all time fav. It's a bummer that I can't play with my friends / crew because of the server issues, but I know they are working hard to resolve that. Besides the obvious issues, it's been a blast so far.

 

From day one, my first goal was to finish collecting the XP and Fast Travel boards before I touched anything else.. which then led to me discovering all of the roads. While I may have been on every road in the game, there is still so much to see and discover and learn, I don't feel like I spoiled my experience at all. Some of the boards can be a bitch to get to, such as the one hanging from the transmission tower along the highway, like how the f*ck do you even get that? I got all 50 FT boards but I have some really complicated XP boards to still get. Wish me luck.

 

The detail in the environment and cars has been overwhelming for me, in a good way. The sounds, vegetation, and all of the buildings.. it's just incredible. The map is so diverse. There's just so much to take in at once, it's easy to miss it all if you only care about the racing, but as a truly open world game where you can drive almost anywhere this game is such a treat. I could play this game for a whole year and probably still not have it all memorized down pat.

Here's a good example of how serious they were about improving/changing most of the sounds:

 

Most, if not all, of the V8 AMGs have sounded the same as each other since FH2. They all reused the same 6.2L N/A V8 engine note because I guess to some people it didn't matter as if all AMGs sounded the same, which they don't. In FH3 we got the AMG GTR which finally got a different unique sound similar to the 4.0L V8 BiTurbo. That sound was axed in FH4 and it sounded like a generic 6.2 cut and paste as well...

 

Well now, there are plenty of unique AMG sounds. Th E63 and AMG GT63 sound similar, both being 4.0s. The GT63 has a little more grunt. But nonetheless similar to the GTR which now uses the sound it had in FH3, which is slightly racier sounding than the sedans bc the exhaust system is different. The older E63? Completely unique brand new sound just like the 5.5L V8 BiTurbo. G63 6x6 too. The SLK55 AMG? Completely unique brand new sound, a 5.5L N/A V8. It's now just the SLS and C63 AMG Black Series that use that "generic" 6.2L N/A V8 sound because they're supposed to. Wild attention to detail, reminds me of how good and accurate the sounds were in Forza Motorsport 4 and Forza Horizon 1.

 

So, yeah they really were not messing around. As a result, it's a whole lot funner to drive around in different cars because they all feel differently. I'm glad they didn't listen to those who were content with the garbage sounds of FH4. So many people were like "oh well" and as a result that game was kind of mediocre in my eyes.

Got the festival fully unlocked, all the fast travel boards and all the PR stunts 3 starred now. Gonna slowly work my way through the exp boards and road unlocks while doing some races before the new season starts I think. Also been doing some cash grinding through super wheelspins, 5 mastery points gets you a super spin on the Willy's Jeep so that's a good way to earn some cash if you're in dire need. Got the house with the daily wheelspin as I reckon it'll pay its self off over time.

 

Despite doing all that I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface with the game tbh, looking forward to the seasonal stuff getting started proper as I always enjoyed doing those in FH4.

 

Still hope they tweak the AI though cause trials as the are are likely gonna be a nightmare.

I've tested around a little and the AI is really insane. At "expert" level they're better than they were on "unbeatable" in FH4. The thing is this only seems to be the case with prefabricated races. If you create one yourself they AI will have no chance even on the highest level. I've created a three lap race called "The Loop [Super Saloons]" which is basically the Goliath (at the point I didn't had it unlocked and was shocked to see it's basically the same route just 100m shorter) and the AI didn't had a chance against the fully tuned S2 BMW M2 Coupe I was driving.

 

There definitely is something wrong with the AI balancing and this has to be addressed as it's extremely frustrating to race against it in official races at the moment.

Yeah the AI even on highly skilled is a nightmare, I was doing the Goliath with an S2 977 ish car and I was still getting overtaken at like 350 kph on high speed corners (by a Morris Minor mind you, while being in the AMG ONE). The rubberbanding is pretty bad. Hopefully it's tweaked because at the moment it's not really fun.

There's a lot of talk about the AI issues so no doubt it's been heard, hopefully they get it sorted soon. It's really the one major issue with the game outside of any technical issues (servers, performance, crashing) people are having.

I really hope they fix more than just the network issues. Network works now, wow im impressed, now they need to fix the rest of their mess.

Playing earlier and the servers felt a lot smoother than the days before. Not tried matchmaking mind you, but I wasn't DCing in free roam.

Yeah i also didn't lose connection today, but the rest is still buggy. I crashed 3 times today just putting other wheels on my 1995 Porsche 911 GT2. There really is something very fishy happening in this game, especially if tuning the cars. It's like after you looked at a certain number of parts, let it be wheels or whatever, the game just crashes. Once i crashed just clicking the Bodykit option. I never crashed while racing or doing anything other than tuning. Really hope they fix this mess.

Yea I've heard some people are having serious crashing issues, which is weird as so far I only had 1 on day 1 of early access, it's been rock solid otherwise even with me alt tabbing during loads a bunch.

 

Edit: Might have jynxed my self, just got my second crash lol.

Just browse through all rims there are, do that very fast and boom the game crashes, it's like you can look at a limited number then it crashes.

Never played Forza Horizon series other than the earlier Motorsports games. Been loving it on PC since the release.

Drifting still too easy. Just finished 3 starring every single drift zone.

I love the map this time around. I still haven't explored all of it, it's just so massive and diverse. Copper Canyon is my favorite part so far, it reminds me so much of what I've seen in Arizona and New Mexico. 

 

It's so easy to get distracted. I'm having a lot of fun already.

I just randomly saw this 911 in my garage and found out I could put a widebody kit on it. FM7 player reward?

Really hope they sort the AI out soonish, it really puts me off doing the solo races tbh. The difficulty is either laughably easy or why is this so hard. Even on "above average" which was far below my skill level on FH4, the AI will randomly make up 3-4 seconds out of no where and then either stick on me like a rash for the rest of the race or lose that 3-4 seconds randomly.

I had a jeep rubberband past me mid-air... like how is that possible ive done a few races in expert and its good money but when sh*t like that happens it gets old fast.

Yea it's bad on tarmac but off-road the AI is bonkers, they aren't slowed down by much compared to the player. Hopefully it'll be their top priority once they get the server issues sorted. Meanwhile I'm grinding some super wheelspins, doing the open world stuff and taking photos.

Is there something specific I need to be doing in order to unlock speed traps, speed zone, and stunt jumps? I only have one of each on my entire map currently (not counting the seasonal objective ones) and zero drift zones so far. The map feels incredibly empty without them.

 

Otherwise I'm having a good time with the game so far. It's more Horizon which is always good. But I'm pretty sure this is already my favorite map.

So far this game has been amazing. And I was so surprised with the sounds that it seemed too good to be true. And it sort of was. I had no issues until I started buying more BMWs. They really sort of dropped the ball there. The 1M and M4 especially sound amazing. But anything with the 4.4L V8 sounds plain wrong. At least with the M6 you can change the exhaust and it'll sound right. But the M5 F10, M5 F90 and X6M (waste of money) all sound incredibly weird. If anything these cars sounded right in FH4 so I have no idea why they touched them. And neither of them sound anything alike either despite using the same engine. It's annoying but that's the only issue I've had with sounds along with the E46/350Z sounds being swapped, they had to screw up somewhere lmfao.

It probably depends on the car you're using. I've been having an easy time on all of the races even on Expert difficulty using just two cars, my 911 GT2 and the Porsche Taycan. Both with my own tunes, with the GT2 using a 7 speed, and the Taycan using a 2-speed.

 

The AI always shoots ahead of me from the line, and even on the straights they pull away from me at a ridiculous pace. But they slow down so much on the corners that I can get an easy pass.

Unlock the PR stage through the festival unlocks, that unlocks all the PR challenges on the map.

I used a Taycan and it felt like I might as well have been using a Flintstone car, I just get toasted on the straights. I can usually make it up on corners but every now and then an AI will just fly round a corner with no physics and make up seconds on you out of no where. Eitherway, it's not very enjoyable having to constantly make up time you lose on straights cause of bullsh*t.

The AI cars definitely have some BS physics of their own. The grip they have on some sections is questionable.

 

I guess I'm not fussed much about it because I'm fresh coming from Back 4 Blood and it's Nightmare mode. Racing on Forza against even Unbeatable AI is probably easier than B4Bs Nightmare mode, it was that frustrating.

 

I just hit level 140, and now I'm probably just going to drift around like I did in FH4 until I get bored of the game.

I'm loving this game. Easily the best Horizon game so far. I just love cruising through Copper Canyon! Saw a video of a guy doing 50 laps of Goliath. Apparently it took him 7 and a half hours - but he got about 150 wheelspins and combined won about 20m for everything and levelled up from around 30 to 190!
