Plage
Quote Only assist is anti-lock brakes, driving manual. Dunno what it was tbh, felt like the brakes weren't great and it couldn't hold a line, usually I pick up how a car handles quickly but with this it didn't feel like it handled consistently to me. I had the same feeling with the brakes. They're a little weak but at Azul that's basically only relevant for the first hard left (NE corner). The handling seems to be good overall. I bet it's the standard tires that give it the this slightly inconsistent feel and slicks will fix that issue. /edit: I had two X6 M sitting in the garage and since I've done liveries for most of the BMW fleet I thought it's time to take care of the SUVs (with I actually don't like that much). I've ported a design from the FH4 M6 FE (which isn't available in 5 so far) that I had ready and this came out. I've made an S1 900 tune (6.5L V12TT) and drove it couple of times in Horizon Tours by now. It's amazingly good and beats most of the super-/hypercars and what you have. The speed and pull is great and the handling outrageously good considering that behemoth ways 1850kg. It's braking and turning like you won't expect and can pull drifts out of corners it's a sheer pleasure. The design and setup are available and both named PBLN #890 in case somebody wants to try it out. Edited April 29 by Plage Flachbau
Flachbau
I felt like the brakes in the SF90 could be better. Some turns I held the line better than others, so I think I would just need more time with the car to perfect a lap. I only have TC on as an assist. Azul is a great track for the monthly for sure. I owe it to those walls and open spaces in Guanajuato for securing me some last second wins last night in separate Horizon Opens. Dock

smokeless6
I finally got around to trying FH5 with my new rig and it was both awesome and not good at all. Driving around the map was was sublime. Really fun, felt great. But when I tried a road race I was all over, unaccustomed to the FFB in this one and any contact was game over. I'll need to make some adjustments to get it where it needs to be. But honestly I'm not sure how often that will be. Getting the new racing setup seems to have come with Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2 and rFactor 2. Funny how that works. But yeah, me and some mates have been racing those sims and it's amazing. Drove my first laps around the Nordschleife last night in many, many years and I can't say enough about how amazing the experience was. Forza's great, I really like it, but this stuff is on a different level. No surprise there and Forza doesn't pretend to be something it is not. But it did serve as a perfect bridge to bring me back to sim racing again.
Commander S
Ooh, early Forza Monthly! I'm presuming this is to move the schedule around so that the next Monthly is mid-month, in time to discuss whatever gets revealed at Dorito Pope's Big Bag o' Game Announcements (either the new Forza Motorsport, or the first Horizon 5 expansion - or both). Can't complain - and phwoar, that thumbnail... Really ought to finally get the DLC, because I don't think I've got the patience to wait for the other RS cars... RS4, with the RS3 sedan (2020, not the 2022) and RS5 coupé in the Car Pass - I've seen rumours that things like a newer-model RS6 Avant and the e-Tron GT might be coming, but it's hard to tell if those are just people wishlisting, basic placeholder files that don't guarantee something will actually make it into the game, or texture/handling files getting updated (which is normally a sign that a car is actually getting added - for example, the TRD Toyotas). ...oh, and it looks like the body kit options for the RS4 include parts to make the ABT RS4-R: Edited May 10 by Commander S
Mexicola9302
The weekly danger sign challenge is annoying, i tried it like 30 times with the Ford Focus, then i tried it with the Mini Cooper like 3 times and it worked. Don't try doing it with the Ford Focus believe me. Yeah - did a couple of cursory attempts, one in a stock Clio, the other in a stock Mini. Even backing up all the way to the main Festival site, they both just lose too much speed getting up the hill. I saw some folks say a tuned Corsa worked, and having looked ...it's what I thought: not even max C-tier, so you can slap a lot of power and some rally kit to get it up the dirt, and not waste any of your tuning budget on such niceties as handling, brakes, etc. Speed Zone's a bit of a pig, too - but it is doable in something like one of the CLK GTR variants (regular or Forza Edition). I don't know how anyone's done it in a stock regular one, but you can get it done with the FE without upgrades/tuning, just by taking enough of a run up from the East approach (to hit it with enough speed), braking without getting off the gas to get around the corners safely, and shaving a bit of each apex (particularly that last one with the trees). In completely unrelated news, in the Forza Monthly yesterday, they've revealed that the 911 GT3 not only has the matching body-colour stitching and trim on the wheels/lights, but (in what I think is a 'Forza First!') actually changes to match whichever paint colour you choose!! Might only apply to manufacturer colours (I'd laugh if you could have woodgrain stitching...), but still, nice to have it so you can pick Python Green, and not be stuck with Shark Blue all throughout the interior - ! Plage
Same here. Tried it with the Corsa and the MG with different setups (speed/offroad) but no luck. Already got the 512 TR so I'm not sure if I'm going to bother again. The Speed Zone is also borderline insane. I did it with the stock CLK GTR FE but needed a couple of attempts and doubt many of the casual players will get this one done. The Event Lab thing with the dying engine is an other PITA. Who thinks something like that is fun? Edited May 14 by Plage
Jason
Some of the seasonal PR challenges can be really, really tight. Like I wouldn't be surprised if they make them by picking a car, getting the fastest tune possible and seeing how fast a speed they can set and then set the challenge to a few MPH over that or something. It often feels like you need a flawless or cheesy run to beat the target. The trial had a suit this week though so haven't done this weeks my self as I hit the 20 points w/o them, might do them later though for the spins. This weeks trial felt really, really easy, either that or I lucked out with a really good team anyway lol. Supposedly the 3rd race is the Goliath too, kinda would've liked to race that in a trial but alas we smashed the first two races. zBiglucky
Mexicola9302
The Speedzone was easy is this week. I did it with the regular CLK GTR, the first corner can be done with max speed, no braking needed, the second corner is a bit tricky, but still doable easily. I got 312 KPH i think. I think only 292 was needed lol. Danger sign was so annoying with the Ford Focus, it was much much easier with the Mini Cooper 2009. The trial was easy too, managed to win it with the first try. I won the eventlap thing in a Lambo Sesto Elemento Horizon Edition. Also after first try. I only play with all helpers off, the only thing i keep activated is automatic clutch. I shift manually and drive without any other helpers, except speedline. What is your favorite car painter? I got Wombi62 on most of my cars, that guy is exactly my style. He really got nice racing liveries going. Since FH3 i love his liveries. His liveries are nice in FH3, FH4, FH5 and Motorsport 7. Im way too lazy to do my own liveries, that guy delivers really really high quality liveries. This dude is like the best of the best. Jason
Noticed in this weeks new trial that, despite having 3 players with C600 cars, the max AI rating was 590. Wonder if that's their way of nerfing the AI a bit? Can't remember if it was the same last week. The fastest AI is still able to get away from you if you can't get out of the pack quick enough mind you. Plage
They've changed this some time ago already. The AI often won't match/mirror what the players bring. Guess that's their way of nerfing, yes.

() Still, new M8 - and I just went out and got all the DLC (thanks to some rewards credit that was going to expire soon!), so I'll be able to get all the DLC cars this month as they drop. Jason
Not a great month for new rewards, won't be pushing too hard for 20 points in most of the months I think. Might give that trial a whirl for the craic though, interested to see how it plays out lol. For the first time in a while I did all the PR stunts and remain disappointed that the credit rolls got nerfed so hard into the ground. Aint no fun getting 1k's and 5k's in your weekly reward spins, or your VIP spins.

Still, we're getting to the point where previous months' reward cars are showing up again, so those are easy auction house credits... For people who really want to maximise their earnings, instead of selling off duplicates, sell off your existing cars before the series goes live, while people are still willing to pay up to 20 million for them - and then just earn those same cars back again through the playlist when they roll around again. Jason
I've never had to buy a car in yonks, I own the vast majority of them, and I've got 25m in the bank and some dupes of valuable cars so I cannae be f*cked farming the rares for cash and the weekly spins pay off the tunes I put on for the weekly challenges as well. I feel like we're seeing those rare cars return more often though which means their less likely to hold any 20m price tags which is where the real meat and gravy is. I think this is a good thing that they return often mind you, Horizon is a collectathon and it's at its best when you can earn those rare cars and not have to resort to buying them off the AH. I remember on 4 there were a bunch of rare cars I never got cause they never appeared again in events until very late in the games lifespan. Commander S
Yeah - or stuff like the FH4 Forza Edition Ford Capri, where you had two opportunities to get it: 80% completion of the series 7 Festival Playlist, or ...complete the entire Star Card, including the bits that required things like people using your race blueprints over 500 times. As for money, I don't get the folks who feel the need to grind out as many credits as possible, when you can get even some of the most expensive cars in the game for free, simply by waiting for something to show up in either a wheelspin or a playlist. There is an accolade (for the completionists) where you need to spend 20 million credits at the auction house - you could just earn 20+ million, buy a "hard-to-find" playlist reward car for 20 million and sell it straight back to get your 20 million back, but if you're struggling to get to 20 mil in the first place, flogging off one of your playlist cars to get there works pretty consistently. I did it with the 599 GTO, just before Series 7, because I knew it was coming back as the "80%" reward for Series 7 - presto: accolade complete, and that temporary hole in my Ferrari collection re-filled! Plage
The series rewards are a joke this time. Absolutely not worth to grind for. The only interesting season cars seem to be the new 911 GT3 and the RS4. The latter is already showing up as AI opponent by the way. Had one in the Porsche vs. Audi street racing event and have it photographed already. I'm not sure what they were thinking when creating the 190E weekly trial? First for that "untuned" part and secondly because that car has a bug with the downforce of the rear wing/spoiler. It's way too low (standard value is 7 while it was something like 140 or so in FH4) which makes the car undrivable if you tune it to A 800/S1 900 or above. I've told them (support) this ages ago already but they simply don't seem to care. The new M8 is quite nice even if it has some major texturing (mapping) issues around the door handles and with the Forza spoiler which can drive a "designer" insane. I've made this livery celebrating the 50th anniversary of M Power this year. I've uploaded the design already but it's not showing up in my Creative Hub which it should. But I can find it when I search for it via "Find new designs" and my player name in the garage. Can somebody that has the car please check if he can see the design "PBLN #898" in the Hub? Would be helpful, thanks. Ivan1997GTA
smokeless6
Since putting together my racing rig I've given Forza a miss while I raced other stuff. But last night I gave it a go. Made some tweaks to the wheel settings and it wasn't bad, but I feel the steering is too twitchy, like the steering is set at 270 degrees (or less). Any tips for wheel setup? Can I change my rotation?
Plage
The rotation is limited to 90° left/right unfortunately. You can see this in the cockpit view as the steering wheel will only go that far in both directions or by simply checking when the front wheels stop turning in the outside view. I assume this is done to cater for keyboard and pad users. What this means is that even if you've a wheel that can turn 900° or more you'll only be able to effectively utilize 180°. The most relevant ingame settings to play around with are the following two in my opinion. The first one is the "deadzone" and defines at what point the wheel will take any input while the second is how far you've to turn the wheel to get full lock. As you can see I'm at 50 for the latter which is quite low but good for street/road and acceptable in offroad/dirt racing. It isn't suited for drifting (you want a wider range here). That's at least what I found and works for me. smokeless6
smokeless6
I killed all the deadzones and set it to linear but not entirely happy with it. Thanks for the tips. I think the FFB comes and goes too.
Plage
I'd leave the linearity to 50. That's like speed dependent steering which requires less turn-in at higher speeds. For me the FFB is ok but as you can see I've turned off vibrations. There also are two different sliders for the feedback on asphalt and offroad. Try to adjust them to a lower level or completely turn them off and see if that suits you more. Edited May 28 by Plage smokeless6

Try to adjust them to a lower level or completely turn them off and see if that suits you more. I tried again to come up with good settings and failed. Unhappy with it. One quirk is that things like FFB settings don't even appear unless you enter the options screen with a button press from the wheel. If you click with the mouse it acts like there's no wheel hooked up. That took a while to work out. Then I saw I still had it set to standard steering and set it to simulation, tweaked a few FFB settings but it's still not right. Honestly I'm not sure what the potential is here. Maybe it's as good as it will get and is just the way it works in Forza. I'm also experiencing a weird issue where my control panel FFB strength is reduced to 20%, and it seems like FH5 is the culprit. That also took a while to figure out and in the mean time I thought the wheel was broken since the forces were suddenly so faint. I'll keep messing around with it from time to time. Thanks for the help.
