Lioshenka
I've just noticed something interesting while watching "Friends", not sure if any of you can confirm it? By the time I realised it, the bit was over, so I could not do an extensive comparison between the two. Basically, when they show scenes of New York in "Friends" in between the shots, there's usually some cheesy tune playing in background - there's quite a few in different episodes. Nonetheless, I swear that the one that played just now is an exact tune from when you complete a lesson in the SA's Driving School. I wonder if both "Friends" and SA producers used the same stock music library? The sound in question is this one (the first few seconds were used in "Friends"): Edited June 12, 2021 by Lioshenka
Mehaniq
https://westarmusic.sourceaudio.com/#!details?id=6859015 this is full original track, and that was cutted and cycled to use in gta sa driving school. But what about friends? Give any proof to us Lioshenka
CynicalMexican
Stock music gets reused a lot, wouldn't be shocked if they used the same music.

Before I realised it the bit was over. If you watch some of the episodes from seasons 5-7 I'm sure you'll hear a few similar tune, not sure what's the proper name for them... intermissions? The link you gave me says the track was submitted in 2014, but obviously it existed pre-2003, so I think @CynicalMexican is right; it's probably an ancient stock music that could be used elsewhere. Pretty amusing though if true; I was always disappointed that "Friends" weren't references in GTA 4, but who would have thought there would be a link to it in SA. ADDED It's called transition music apparently. This video confirms that they used some stock music for those: There's a whole playlist of them here, can't hear an exact match, but a lot of very similar tracks. Maybe I just misheard, or maybe it's not on the playlist: Edited July 11, 2021 by Lioshenka
CynicalMexican
I mean, a SpongeBob episode used the same house music sample as GTA 3. It's not impossible that Friends and GTA SA may have used the same stock music. Hey, a new myth! Skayz

In terms of music, I don't have much experience in finding the original sources of the sound file, but I spent a very long time studying the history of the origin of some textures in the game, which turned out to be free stock images in the public domain for free download. And I'm pretty sure some of the content was used by the developers without the consent of the content author given that it's hard to track. I have a video in which you do not need to listen speech, just scroll timeline to see the images shown in it. CynicalMexican

I found that a good number of them referenced real businesses in LA that existed way back in the day. Mehaniq

My dream is to find at least one resource that is the source material for the storefront in the game. So far, I've only found known textures. For example, the Los Angeles City Hall. And also a famous costume store in San Francisco CynicalMexican
universetwisters
They don't sound like the same song imo, but it wouldn't surprise me if the stock music library they got it from was trying to emulate music from Friends

I actually did manage to find the "Casa de Empeño" (Pawn Shop in Spanish) and Post Office both in Ganton a while back on Google Maps. I'll see if I can find both again. universetwisters, Mehaniq and Lioshenka

If you manage to get your finds back, please write to me about it on the forum or in private messages. I will be very grateful for that as I spend many hours in google maps looking for the original resources that served as material for the textures. All I want is the coordinates on the world map. You don't even need to take screenshots. Thanks in advance CynicalMexican
Rhoda
The style of the music is very similar, with that trademark schmaltzy electric guitar slide. To fully get to the bottom of this, you'd have to know the original composer for the song. After some digging, it turns out this was vignette music used in Tribuna Esporte by TV Tribuna in 2005/2006, in Informe RJ by Record Rio in 2005, in TV Capixaba from 2000 to 2005, and in the now extinct Globo Cidade, from Rádio Globo in Portugal. According to this the name of the song is Review The Scores and was written by Rick Rhodes and Linda Lawley. They have a number of other tracks available for royalty free use and the brash, triumphant tone obviously lends itself well to sports casts, news reports and the like. Incidentally, I'm fairly sure that opening trumpet burst is used during one of the WCTR updates. I have doubts that this is the same song, and nor do I believe the same artists are responsible. The incidental music used in Friends is more gentle, but there have been some unusual choices I remember hearing so anything is possible. In order not to violate the current theme, which was created by its author - I am thinking of creating a new section on the forum, where I will send my screenshots of finds from Google maps. I will be glad to see you there
