Panzermann11
For me, I'd like to put period-accurate music. That means I put 1992 music and prior in San Andreas, mid-1980's music in Vice City and Stories, 2008 and prior songs in GTA IV and 2000s-2010s songs in V. I mostly use music inspired by existing radio stations. Edited October 12 by Panzermann11
H-G
Well, I never use the custom radios in III, VC and SA and just stick to the game's lore. But I recently had the idea of using them as a way to restore cut songs into the games. GTA 3 and GTA VC radio stations are literally just mp3 files that can be edited in Audacity or replaced altogether. GTA SA is much tricky to edit though there's a mod now that makes this process a hell of a lot easier. As to the topic at hand, I generally create period accurate playlists as well. It feels awkward to play dubstep in GTA SA (unless the game has been modded to "look modern"). My custom GTA 4 playlist is mostly just 2006-08 pop music lol. Blends very well with GTA 4 though. That's why I had to carefully pay attention to what date a song was released in before I pick them. I didn't want pick post-1986 songs in Vice City unless it's for VCFM in EFLC, songs from 2009 are fine only if it's for EFLC and I couldn't pick songs from today for GTA 5 unless it's for Online because Rockstar basically said "f*ck it, we're not stuck in 2013 anymore". You'd be suprised to know one of the songs on my GTA 5 playlist is Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders, however. I actually put that song because it actually sounded like it'd fit well into Radio Mirror Park and it was from quite a long time ago before the song got popular. I'll still say this: driving around Algonquin while Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" played on Independence FM is something that came together way too well, lol. Those contemporaries songs really enhance the vibe. At least GTA:O's story moves forward in time, which is one of the few things I like about it. Cutter De Blanc
Period appropriate music, but my sh*t sounds like KULT FM with how random it is Jeansowaty
NightmanCometh96
Usually, I have a mix of random songs I like as well as songs from other GTA games. In my most recent playthroughs, I've been trying to make the experience more authentic/period correct by making the year a particular GTA is set in as the cutoff date for the most recent tracks in my playlists (2001 for III, 1986 for VC, etc.). For V, I also added songs that were removed from the final game (it's weird to think that we were close to having a Michael Jackson song for the first time since VC with The Jackson 5's Dancing Machine before it got cut from The Lowdown, but I digress). I also did this for the mobile versions of VC and SA when they were first released (my iPhone was not jailbroken back then, so I had to settle for adding the removed songs to each game's custom playlist instead of just restoring the original files). Be-Deliver
Judging from the songs I put in Independence FM; most of the songs for my playlist consists songs from 1980's to the extent I consider it as an alternative to Vice City FM. No particular genre, it's just the majority of them are from that decade.

Lord Bizkit
Gta 3 and Re LCS are the only games in which I use custom music since I hate those games soundtracks.
Jeansowaty
In IV, I have a playlist consisting of late 90s-mid 2000s Trance/House/Dance tracks. For III, I compiled a playlist for a 2002 Rise FM. NightmanCometh96 and H-G 1
liberty santos
For GTA V, I usually put in trance music. For other games such as IV and SA, I mainly put house tracks. NightmanCometh96 and Jeansowaty
