Tycek
Sometimes game developers or designers come up with a feature that is so unusual You may scratch Your head in awe and wonder why is this not used more often. It may be some kind of mechanic, accessibility option or just an interesting idea that makes the game more pleasant or fun to play. Have You seen anything like that You would love to see more frequently? Here are the features I've seen and when I was encountering them for the first time I was surprised, but I start to like them to a point I would love to see them in more games. - An ability to buy achievements in Nier Automata. While this may be head-scratching for the first time it works quite nice. Of course You can't just buy them right from the start, because the ability appears after getting ending A, B and C (which basically meaning You have to complete game, do NG+ and complete another part of the story, which unlocks after clearing NG+ - sounds strange, but that Japanese game design for You) and these are quite pricey, but the possibility is there. You may of course say it's against the whole idea of collecting trophies, but in my opinion it's just a helpful thing for You to use or not. I would love to see such possibility in more games, as sometimes I couldn't get an achievement, due to glitched requirements and if there was still a possibility to buy I'd do it. I was one achievement away from completing Bully (great game, but buying clothes glitched for me and I couldn't get 100% completion) and one from completing Fallout Shelter (quest counting was glitched) and these are triggering my OCD, every time I see my achievements list. - Periodical invincibility in Battletoads 2020. You can turn it on for one section of the game in which You died too many times already. It's simple yet elegant solution for all players that were blocked from progressing by lack of their skill. Why block them and lead to their increasing frustration when You can help them to have fun with Your game? Of course this option has its limitations, because You cannot use it while playing on hard, but it's there for You to enjoy if You want. - All the accessibility features in Forza games, like steering, braking assists or rewind. I personally usually turn everything off, while playing this series, but I like the existence of these options, as it allow people with various disabilities to enjoy the game. Why limit Your game only to fully able players, when You can give as many assists as possible to allow everyone to have fun? Of course it's quite natural that players using these won't have a chance in a multiplayer, but I believe they are quite aware of their limitations and just would like to have fun and enjoy car racing. Aforementioned options may be used by people who don't care about being competitive, but simply want to relax, drive a cool car and enjoy their free time. I believe in giving people a choice. If someone prefers to make his game easier, thus more pleasant for him, I'm absolutely cool with that. If You've seen something similar, please share it and keep the debate civilized. I was looking for similar topic on the forums, but couldn't find it. If there was such topic that I missed, please merge my post with it. Thanks. Goldn-Bayse
I wouldn't really say this is a unique or interesting feature since it's in a lot of text-heavy games but I would like more games to have a message log feature that shows dialogue and the speaker. That way if someone misses a line of dialogue, they can open up the message log. Another feature I'd like to see is story recaps for longer games, similar to The Witcher 3 and Dragon Quest 11. Basically when you load the latest save you would get a quick rundown of what happened in the story since last you played. I'm personally surprised no other game has tried their own version of the pawn system from Dragon's Dogma. In that game your pawn was basically a companion that you could share online with other players as well as get 2 other pawns from other players. If you got a player's pawn that fought the enemy you're fighting for the first time, they would give tips on how to defeat it. Other than these I'd like to see more accessibility features to be a standard in games now, especially stuff like text size, UI size, and custom button mapping.
