Midnight Club LA's rock and hard rock playlist did a better job at reflecting the modern rock music of the period. There's way too many 80s songs in V to the point where the game didn't really feel like it was supposed to be set in 2013. I can't agree with this enough. It's like R* had some weird fetish for having Michael/Trevor having "their music". Maybe it was to appease the VC crowd a bit too. At least Watch Dogs 2 cut the crap when it came to the soundtrack - had so many rock songs that should've been in GTA 5. What a missed opportunity. yungstirjoey666

I have to assume those songs might have been expensive, but then again, Radio Los Santos had contemporary artists, and hell, West Coast Classics with its playlist had some very well known artists who probably charged a pretty penny. But yeah, pretty much why I couldn't stand Non Stop Pop FM. I get it, people dislike pop music because insert generic reason about how it's awful music, but construct something consistent. Non Stop Pop FM was so inconsistent and I didn't care for much of the pre 2000 tracks save for Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You (tbh, a 1998-2002 house station would've been great). And, imagine Coldplay's "Paradise" playing while driving through the highways on a sunny day.... The Tracker and NightmanCometh96

Now, I still am not the biggest fan of some pop music still being released today (especially with the quasi-indie girl voice taking over), but there was something I really liked about the EDM (can't specify whether it was trance, house, or techno) sound that took place during the late 2000s/early 2010s, like with Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Kesha. There were also some bubblegum aesthetic tracks. I'm pretty sure that at one point people who were nostalgic about 60s music hated 80s music when it was released, 50s people hated 70s music, and so on. Ten years later the pop music we once hated, we will end up appreciating. CynicalMexican

Nah, they've licensed lots of popular modern music back in IV. They had Daddy Yankee, David Guetta, Kanye West, John Legend and Major Lazer back in IV. Rockstar just has a big hard on for the 80s. Honestly, they didn't have to include extremely popular songs from the 2010s in NSP either. B-Sides, lesser known EDM artists and some one hit wonders are fine too. I personally think K12 from Saints Row 3 is what NSP would have sounded like if it had more modern songs. MonoChrome213
would be cool if vbr in gta v was split in two radio stations, one would play mainstream modern rock, something like green day, the killers, and the other one would be the beta los santos surf radio with alternative rock with strong beach vibes, kind of a mix between vbr and kult fm. kult fm actually is pretty damn good and i wouldve wanted to have it in singleplayer, if it weren’t for post-2013 songs. and of course, pmr coz i really vibe with radio x in gta sa. gta iii and lcs could also use proper rock stations. and if you ask me, what gta has the perfect radio soundtrack, without a doubt i say it’s vice city stories yungstirjoey666

Regardless of your thoughts on pop music, the 80s hits definitely set the vibe for the Vice City games, and the 90s hits made San Andreas much more memorable. 2 hours ago, DownInThePMs said: Nah, they've licensed lots of popular modern music back in IV. Yeah, I think it's the assumption that everyone likes 80s music, but LSRR had Starship's "We Built This City" which many consider to be awful. Also, Soul Wax should've been an EDM station, EDM was HUGE from 2011-14. They could've gotten lesser known artists since EDM is pretty underground anyway. Leather Rebel
VC I mean game takes place in 86 there should've been this instead of You've got another thing comin'. Should've had more Heavy/Speed/Thrash instead of Glam Metal. SA: Yeah,Radio X could've been more interesting,i'm not into Nirvana but they were very popular during these times. Lord Bizkit
I really wish there was nu metal in gta 3 and liberty city stories as those games were set during the y2k phase. I understand with gta 3 that they couldn't get big artists but obscure bands with a raw production would've suited the game perfectly. Ash_735
We all know about this one... The mistake people often make when doing custom playlists for this station though is that they use famous American Funk and Soul tracks. This wouldn't have been old Rockstar's style though, you know what's cheaper, less known, more local and would be right up the Housers tastes? The "Northern Soul" genre, which was popular in the North of England and Scotland in the 60's and 70's, it would've certainly been a staple of their mothers music taste growing up. Keeping the above in mind I could easily see a 25 to 30 minute mix of this type of music in GTA3's Liberty City: B Dawg, NightmanCometh96, H-G and 4 others

NightmanCometh96
While it was likely a lower budget project than Vice City, I'm still a bit sad that VCS doesn't have any Michael Jackson songs. Imagine Vic getting on the Streetfighter in the first mission and the radio starts playing Beat It or Thriller...
