Nite
Hey does anyone know if there is gonna be a speed up patch made for Vice City? sheepyUK made a great one for GTA 3 called HIGH FPS that removes the rain as well as the leaves and newspapers on the ground everywhere. Let me know thanks
Alucasan
Well there is a mod that makes it sunny day and night.
Malevolent creation
yeah, i've been looking for a highfps fix too, because my "old faithful" doesnt run gta vc so smoothly and a fix to get all those leaves and other stuff out of streets would help a lot. Nite
yeah I have the Sunny Mod, but it still has the rain in it and the rain is the main thing I want to remove cause its whats slows the game down the most, not to mention I like night time in the game cause it makes the graphics look cooler on everything, I just want a mod that removes the rain and thats it *sigh*. I run the game at 1280x1024, 32 bit color, 2X FSAA almost 100% smooth except when it rains on a XP 1700+ 1.47Ghz, 512MB DDR266 ram, and 128MB Geforce 4 TI-4200
kabbage
I have pretty much the same setup and I have trouble even getting anything better than -barely- acceptabe FPS with 1280x1024x16 and no AA. Argh... I wonder what I need to change. Any suggestions? Running an XP 2100, 512mb 333 DDR, Ti-4400 on winXP *sigh*

kabbage
Well as long as it doesn't slow down so much that it causes me problems with my playing. I'm usually okay as long as it stays above 30-40 at a minimum.
Ken---KenKo
Well, I am not sure if this will help, but you can check to make sure system32 is turned off. That really eats your computer and you don't need it anyways. Just go into task manager (ctrl + alt + delete) and go to the processes tab. then look for system32, right click on it, and press 'end process' and then a box will come up. Simply click yes. Most of you probably know this but if you dont please tell me if it worked. I know it's not a speed-up patch but... Ken
kabbage
Since I don't see it in the list...
kabbage
Well I also remembered I haven't defrag'd in a while and one of the files fragmented right now is the 324mb sfx.raw file. So... that will help... but probably not a whole lot.
Nite
Oh yeah I forgot about defraging, I havn't done one in almost a month, I'll try that thanks
kabbage
Well my Santa Cruz could be causing a performance hit in the sound department too, considering they haven't updated their drivers for like 2 years except for some recent beta drivers that crash Vice City on startup. I've had all kinds of trouble with this thing... funny thing is I would have gotten an Audigy but I didn't want the... trouble.
Immortal LuD
sheepyUK made a great one for GTA 3 called HIGH FPS that removes the rain as well as the leaves and newspapers on the ground everywhere. Let me know thanks I don't know about making my game look like it's on Atari for a few extra FPS. If you can't dish out $60 for a video card to make this game run great at 1280x1024, then you're just too cheap. The game runs way too good enough, (and looks great), to take all the details out of it.
Oblivious
Did you guys ever consider lowering your resolution a bit? It's not like it looks that bad. Even at the lowest possible resolution, the game looks 10x better than it did on PS2. If you're stubborn and unwilling to use a lower resolution, you'll just have to accept lower framerates. Given the choice, I prefer smooth gameplay over aesthetics any day.
Nite
I use High Resolution because the jagged edges in games are annoying to me, and I am living with the slower frame rate for now, maybe like 30 or 40 FPS at 1280x1024, 32 bit, 2X FSAA. which isn't bad really its playable at that, its just when it starts raining it drops to like 15 to 25 FPS. so I think thats a good enough reason to remove the rain, even people with higher end systems than mine like Kabbage is have trouble with the game at that Res, so I doubt a faster video card will help, Rockstar games just lacks more video options to fine tune the game to the best performance possible, only thing I could do was turn the Visibility all the way to minumum and even then its still slow
Malevolent creation
dont know about you guys but not everybody is made of money, and i surely dont have 60$ for a new graphics card. and i wouldnt mind if all those zombie elvis newspapers and other leaves would be taken out of the game, that stupid junk flows around everywhere. im running the game on an old matrox g400 and amd athlon 900Mhz and the game runs almost like hot knife on butter. INLO
and i wouldnt mind if all those zombie elvis newspapers and other leaves would be taken out of the game, that stupid junk flows around everywhere. I also want rid of those damn newspapers, especially considering its a file they either forgot about or just put in for the hell of it from GTA3
Immortal LuD
And what's up with the leaves being like 100 times their original size? I don't remember what they're like in PS2, (although I could go look at a few screenshots), but they're way too stretched out... They had some nice addon/replacement leaves and newspapers for GTA3. Malevolent creation
I started making a highfps fix today but since there is no txd importer available for vice city i had to cancel the whole highfps fix -project

MrLaggy
Yeah, I get stutters when driving fast, slow frame-rates in rain, and slideshow frame-rates when lots of people are trying to shoot me simultaneously. Considering that's on a P4-2.4 with 128MB Radeon 9500 Pro and 512MB of PC2700 RAM at 1280x960x32, I'm not too impressed.
Immortal LuD
Geeze, I only have a 1.6GHz Northwood at 2.2GHz, 1GB of slow ass PC2100 RAM, and a Radeon 8500 and I get perfect framerates at 1280x1024x32, wether it's raining or not... What drivers are you using?
MrLaggy
The latest 3.4 drivers. I defragged the disk as well in case it was reading from there all the time, so about the only thing I have left to try to get a decent frame rate is to plug in a real sound card in place of the crappy onboard sound chip once I have some cash to spare. Jackasshole22
I think the cheapest and easiest way to upgrade for vice or gta3 is to use Windows XP Pro
