New Lock-On System / Idea

So I played GTA Online since day 1 and stopped playing for a year to now come back and realize, that things really didn’t change in free roam. I’m talking about something that I personally see as a huge problem -> weaponized vehicles (Lock-On rockets).

You just can’t drive around in Los Santos with a „normal“ car or play the game chilled and have fun without somebody blowing u up. Don‘t get me wrong, griefing will always be part of online gaming, but it’s just to damn easy locking on and then press 1x button. Especially with mk2 Opressors.

Then I came up with an idea. Let’s say u have 2x Vehicle lists. One with weaponized / armored vehicles on it and one without. Only vehicles on the weaponized list should be able to be lock on to! This also applies to homing launchers. Which vehicle belongs on which list can be discussed (does the Kuruma belong on list 1 or 2? Has armor but no weapons 🤷🏽‍♂️).

I think this way, warzone players and „normal“ players can coexist. Just imagine how many players would drive normal cars and fly normal aircraft’s again because for now, you don’t really have a chance without a weaponized vehicle. You would even have an advantage using normal vehicles because you can’t get locked on to, with the downside not being able to have weapons. Perfect balance.

I came up with the idea because of a (I think it was) business battle. You can’t lock on the vehicle that has to be transported with a missle. So this guy chased me with a buzzard and shot manually. It was so much fun. Felt like a James Bond movie because he was getting very close of hitting me. I made it at the end but on another day, he would of got me. I think that is the way this game should be played. More balanced!!!!

There will still be griefing and advanced pilots / drivers can still bring you hell if they are good in free aiming. But that’s ok. It’s Gta and not sims. But this is in my opinion the way to do it.

What do you guys think?

Woud be nice bc the "casual"/"low lvl" -griefer cant f up so easy. I think These playeres are a big piece of the grieferes and this woud get rid of them. And gta woud be more rewarding for the skills you have

It's an idea that's been discussed a number of times here.

There has been an acknowledgement (albeit a flawed one) from Rockstar regarding what they class as weaponised vehicles (mainly how passive mode has now been disabled when using them). Therefore the 'other list' you mentioned does already exist in this respect.

And whilst the idea could be expanded along the lines of: if vehicle is on weaponised list, there are no 'bad sport' points or insurance cost to destroy it, it's not really in Rockstar's interests to prevent people from destroying another player and their stuff - after all, such behaviour gets players to spend their money (and potentially purchase Shark Cards) to retaliate and/or buy other vehicles that aren't as easy to destroy.

And let's not forget, even if the 'no lock-on' list was a thing (which is a good idea, don't get me wrong!), there's nothing stopping a determined player from covering an innocuous Faggio in sticky bombs and terrorising the lobby.

I support this idea, along with removing Bad Sport points and insurance charges from blowing up weaponized PVs.

And I also should add: Nerf the tracking of ALL homing missiles accross the board down to the standard level that you see on the Savage and the Buzzard...Only exception being the SAM barrage of the AA Trailer and the Chernobog missiles.

These changes would improve the free roam game experience for the beginner and the regular player tenfold.

I don't really think it would mean much to us veterans since we already are so jaded from this game, but I would still welcome these changes with an open heart.

When the game first launched, you couldn't lock onto player-driven ground vehicles. Only aircraft. I would be fully in favor of going back to that, as well as letting you lock onto weaponized ground vehicles.

It's been a truly terrible development all the way around to let you lock onto regular cars. It wasn't THAT bad when it was just Buzzard missiles--most players didn't know how to get the right angle to hit a moving car from the air, and still don't. But the mememobile super-homing rockets are a whole different ballgame. You don't need an angle or a strategy, just press the button to get a kill. It's stupid and skill-less, and it has completely devalued the regular cars that the game is actually supposed to be about.

In short, I'd be in favor of it, but I doubt Rockstar will ever change this. Too many people seem to like the stupid version we have.

yes this is true. But if some guy wants to blow me up with a Faggio with sticky bombs and gets the kill, he deserves it. Lol. I’m also ok with somebody blowing my sell Cargo manually with rockets. That’s the game and I’m not trying to change that. Just want an opponent to at least work a little for the kill! This is the reason why a lot of people sell in solo Lobbys.

i started playing free aim since a month now and I LOVE it. It’s like playing a new game. You still get killed my griefers but they are such less of them because it just isn’t that easy.

But I get what u mean

I support this. I still labour under the misapprehension that this is a "street-level" crime game, and don't care to look out my window & see nothing but flying bikes & heavily armored milspec vehicles all over the place. It would be nice to be able to jump into any of my hundreds of sitting ducks regular cars and cruise around without dreading a lock-on tone.

Also agree that dodging missles in a non-lockable vehicle is thrilling as hell. You're pitting your skill against the attacker's and it gets the blood pumping. You know, rather than 'oh, look, a Skillbike icon bearing down on me, better get out of this deathtrap and fight on foot, guess he's in charge of what I'm doing now'.

I have long been an advocate of getting rid of insurance fees for destroying armed vehicles. It's just unfair that when facing one your choices are get killed or pay for the attacker's insurance. Kind of makes it a no win situation. Same goes for getting charged insurance fees for destroying PV's while on sale runs.

I remember a Nightclub sale I did in normal public (like a fool) - a couple of asshats came after me, one in a Buzzard & his pal in a supercar (hurling stickies, of course). I was in the hills above Senora, so managed to weave enough to get the Buzzard pilot to crash, but the super I had to take out with a prox mine. Bam, $20K out of my pocket. They never caught up with me again (obviously they were both terrible), but if they had then a significant amount of profits could have been burned up just defending myself. So unfair.

But, like others have said, this is the way R* wants it. Chip away at our profits, give with one hand, take away with the other. Funnel us towards shark cards. The worst part is it seems to be working, since T2 posts record profits on a continual basis. Maybe we are as stupid as they think we are... and judging by the behaviour I see from 99% of randoms, we might even be stupider than that...
