Well, you could just swim around the gate in front of the boatyard, get in a boat and speed away to the other islands You migth loose 50 health, but what is 50 health when you can easaliy upgrade it? Kurgen Posted May 19, 2003 Share Posted May 19, 2003 Yeah, that would make much more sense - if the player swam (swum?) more than X yards from shore, the game could trigger a shark attack, which the manual actually refers to, rather than simply making him unable to swim, which is fackin' ridiculous TBH. There are dangers in the ocean; and then you'd complain about the Dangers... then... about how slow it is... and then... how it will be unrealistic to see a tough gangsta swim... Rockstar did state, and I don't have the source so don't ask, it was in an interview on a gaming site, that the characters in GTA will never swim however they could change their minds considering the amount of people who would like to see swimming. If swimming was done on some sort of stamina system I think it could be great, much like sprinting. You can only sprint for a long time if you've got enough stamina. Rockstar could make it so even if you had max stamina you still would only make it several meters from any of the islands. So even if you only had the first island and swam and swam near the shore until you had max stamina you'd still never make it. As is with VC you wouldn't get the boats/flying vehicles until later on. Even tough ganstas can swim even if its a doggy paddle. No one expects the next gta hero to be an olympic level swimmer. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

MrLaggy Posted May 20, 2003 Share Posted May 20, 2003 I don't care about swimming to other islands, but it really sucks when a number of missions involve boats, but if you crash the boat you can't even swim ten yards to a nearby dock... as it stands, boat crash generally means death or reload. Then again, the whole concept of closing off many of the islands until you've completed missions kind of sucks. Personally my primary reason for playing the missions is not that they're fun (many, frankly, are tedious and annoying), but to open up the other islands so I can have fun outside the missions. You should be able to swim at least 15 seconds, and just not be able to hijack a boat from the water, that was there's no way of getting to another island. I HATE just falling into the water right beside land and losing EVERYTHING because this damn guy can't swim for 2 seconds. I mean, even if he couldn't swim, it's IMPOSSIBLE to die in 3 seconds... Anyway, I'm not gonna get far in this one, it comes up all the time. All we have to wait for is the next GTA and see if R* gets that right this time.
