I can't boot modified VCS's ISO

Hi, I'm trying to translate PS2 VCS to my language (Czech). I don't know if the game is using english.gxt or american.gxt so I'm translating both. I took both files directly from the game's ISO and put them into a folder. I'm working with Notepad because I don't know any GXT editor made specifically for LCS and VCS. It's going slow because I have to make gaps between letters, but that's fine. I want to make sure it's working correctly, however, when I change the game's ISO to RAR to replace the original english.gxt with the translated one and then convert the RAR back to ISO, PCSX2 can't boot it – the red screen of death will appear instead – and the size of the converted ISO is smaller than the original size. I also tried converting it without editing the english.gxt but it didn't work either. I'm using WinRAR to convert the ISO to RAR and the full version of MagicISO to convert the RAR back to ISO. Did I damage the ISO file by converting it to .rar? If yes, how do I avoid it?

The LCS/VCS GXT files are almost the same as the III/VC/SA GXT files, so any GXT editor made for the Trilogy GTA games will work just fine with the Stories ones. Also, you should try something like PowerISO instead of WinRAR for managing files in ISO archives.

I opened the ISO in PowerISO, edited the english.gxt and overwrote it, and the game won't boot, again (red screen of death). The size of the ISO file became smaller, too.  How do I edit ISO files without damaging them?
