gigachad69
Revolver ammo = .45 Colt Repeater ammo = .44-40 Winchester Express = Hollow point ? High velocity = Armor piercing (AP) ? Split point = Dumdum, or just called an expanding bullet. But if this is correct, then express can't be a hollow point equivalent, since its the same thing? Maybe the point is that split point is handcrafted, while express is made in factory, so that's why express is more effective for a hollow point kind of bullet? Explosive ammo = no idea how a revolver caliber can be made explosive. Maybe someone can post a real life equivalent of this for me. I could see it happen with some weird shell load Normal shotgun ammo = 12ga with about 7 projectiles. So that's a 00 buck load I think. Slug = 12ga with slug load .22 = .22 Is this correct? Or were those ammo types called differently back in the 19th century? Edited May 16, 2021 by gigachad69
éX-Driver
The “express” rounds are hollow points, and the “high velocity” rounds are express rounds. ‘Express’ is an old-fashioned term that means ‘additional powder charge’, so that the bullets have a higher velocity. The split points are as you correctly deduced homemade dum dums. Small-calibre explosives DO exist, but below about .50cal the explosive charge is so small and the lead is so thin to accommodate the explosives that it makes them less effective than a normal bullet. So it’s pure fantasy to have a revolver shooting explosives like how they do in-game. And as far as I’m aware, you definitely wouldn’t be able to craft it by stuffing lard in the casing like how we do in-game.
RyuNova
Split Point bullets are normal bullets with a cross gouged into the end using a knife. While Express are specifically machined. Split Point does more damage because the bullet is doctored to catch more flesh, muscle and possibly organs in the grooves that create a sort of barrier over the top of the bullet making it larger and thus doing more damage. 1898
The Navy revolvers are cap & ball. These:
Dark Spark
The 1851 Navy also shot conical bullets, both in loose configuration as well as fitted to combustible paper cartridges. One reason to justify why repeater ammo is different from rifle ammo would be the fact every repeater in the game uses a tube magazine while the rifles are either single-shot or carry their rounds side-by-side instead of front-to-back. Rifles can use pointed bullets, the repeater will play better with flat-heads. Edited May 18, 2021 by Dark Spark
