Rumour has it a well that a big show has leaked, believed to be an E3 show, rumoured to be Square Enix but some think Nintendo.

I just hope, that it's something fresh, not another FF.

I would love to see some more stealth games. I wish Deus Ex didn't get canned. Those last two games were serious gems and very underrated games.

Square Enix has a vast array of interesting games in development now. Aside from Forspoken, Final Fantasy 16, another part of FFVII remake we also haven't heard much about this game since its initial announcement at E3 2018:

Reminds me of a Nier Automata + a bit of Devil May Cry. Could be interesting, I dig the art direction, especially the last shot in the trailer looks pretty amazing. Speaking of art direction, I am more intrigued about Forspoken which looks amazing and really fun to play:

Might be a bit more up to my alley than Babylon's Fall since I am not the biggest fan of DMC even though I enjoyed some of the games. The teaser trailer they showed last year already had me hooked 😛 There have also been rumours about a spin-off Final Fantasy title with the gameplay similar to Nioh and other Souls games, but at the same time more accessible to general audience.
https://www.fanbyte.com/news/rumor-square-enix-set-to-announce-a-new-action-rpg-final-fantasy-spinoff/

But yeah as far announcements go, I would love to see a new Deus Ex, it's a shame that it didn't sell that well. But then again neither did last Tomb Raider as far as I know, and that one has a sequel confirmed (with announcement still far away), so there's hope.

Well to be fair it's a spin-off title that seems to be vastly different from what Final Fantasy as a franchise is now. So technically it's something new and fresh. Apparently there are 94 Final Fantasy games if you count all the spin-offs 😄https://guidefall.com/final-fantasy-how-many-games-order-where-start-best/. Not all of them are necessarily connected to each other, as far as main entries go at least.

But I get what you mean, those who aren't interested in FF label are probably a bit annoyed by the news. It's just that FF is by far the most important brand to Square Enix, kinda like GTA is to Rockstar.

Take-Two go there pretty much every year, but it's typically just for the press. I imagine the only reason it's more of a show this time is cause of covid but tl;dr: don't expect anything Rockstar. This will be for their many, many other projects in the works... like:

Forgot a new Dead Island was a thing. Even though very early in dev, I would of loved a TimeSplitters teaser, mind you!

Surprised at no SR. Last rumours I heard made it sound like it had been in dev for a while, but no E3 show this year makes it sound like it's still 2-3 years away.

I think Volition will most likely announce it after E3. They're probably working on a remake/remaster of the first Saints Row game in honor of its 15th anniversary.

I know nothing about Saints Row, but I keep reading that it's from development since 2017 and the twitter page of the studio actually even responds to fan questions about it lol. That's a long time, maybe they are planning the game to be massive.

So Eidos Montreal will reveal its next game during the Square Enix conference, and it's Guardians of the Galaxy game and not Deus Ex. New Deus Ex doesn't even seem to be in development.

And Square Enix will finally show Babylon's Fall. About damn time.

I remember hearing about them making a Guardians game around the time Sqeenix/Crystal Dynamics were confirmed as devs for Avengers.

They've got A LOT of making up to do because as much as I wanted to love it, and despite some good things about it, the Avengers game was bloody terrible.

It's pretty depressing the fact that Deus Ex is essentially 'cancelled' for the foreseeable future and mostly due to their own (SE) incompetence. Human Revolution was highly rated and to follow up all they had to do was build on that success. IIRC, it was micro-transactions implemented by Square Enix (since removed) that marred the launch of the follow-up, Mankind Divided. Talk of the dev team being split so one half of them were sent off to complete some other sequel. It's a pity because with the relative failure of Cyberpunk 2077 and the hunger for cyber-punk genre games, follow-up to Mankind Divided could have been successful. I think Eidos Montreal are a talented team with original ideas being crushed by greed and incompetence of Square Enix.

Here's a good article about some of the development issues and desire fans have for another Deus Ex.

https://www.thegamer.com/new-deus-ex-mankind-divided-part-2/

I'm not a fan of the slog of campy CGI superhero films released in the last 20 years. The market feels very over-saturated with them (movie-wise, anyway). I watched the Avengers movie and was bored to death. I'm willing to bet that if they make GoG game, it's going to tank again. Like those movies, it's a cash-cow, bereft of any artistic merit. Films made by marketing teams with insane budgets. I missed when some devs took chances on games based on cult films and classics like The Warriors and although cancelled, Taxi Driver.  Anyway, good news for those into GoG. I don't think that creative project comes from anywhere wholesome. I don't think it this project is developed out of passion to tell the world a new story or show something new. It's developed because purely because "it's safe" and it's known - although we know games are never really safe. But just like the movies, they source material already exists, the characters, everything.. don't try making something new or original.

That's a pretty hot take tbf. Early Marvel stuff was a huge risk, Marvel didn't have their A-list characters due to rights issues, hired an actor who couldn't get insurance, hired a few smaller names in big roles (who are now huge names), basically bet the entire Marvel company on Iron Man if I recall, etc. In recent years they've connected a series of films and now TV in ways no one has ever done before, literally changing modern live action entertainment as we know it - as evidenced by every studio under the sun trying to imitate their success since, including DC who actually have put out good games in that same time.

The reason Avengers tanked had nothing to do with the lack of artistic merit or anything of the sort, but because it was it quite clearly trying to be a single player game that got a co-op service game forced down it's throat somepoint in mid development that resulted in a game that came out horribly undercooked, unfinished and just in many ways, broken. Nothing to do with the IP, everything to do with the sheer incompetence of Squeenix/Crystal Dynamics.

If the Guardians game is good, IF it's good, it will sell like hot cakes as there is a huge demand for a good Marvel game. After Avengers I can't say I have much faith in Squeenix right now, if it's another service based loot game then it's gonna be a veeeeery tough sell. If it's a purely single player Marvel game, they'll do well to f*ck that up a there's so much great source material to pull from.

Can't say much about Marvel as I have never seen a single Marvel movie, but I also get the impression that these games by SE aren't developed out of passion. But that's not to say that they can't be as there are many examples of mainstream franchises that I would guess were developed out of passion and not simply as some cash grabs - Spiderman PS4, Batman Arkham etc. I like when such games offer something unique that is not found in the source material. For example, I am really excited by the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy game that takes place over 100 years before the events of Harry Potter. That gives developers a lot of creative freedom to do things not explored by HP media. But if the game is a movie tie-in, I am not too excited. Though apparently The Warriors was really good, but I am yet to play that one. :)

Spoiler

Yeah look, I'm not saying superhero stuff can't tank but it's still in the realm of super commercial, appeal-to-masses popcorn entertainment built on all-ready existing material. But a lot of the stuff you mention like putting smaller names in bigger roles is par for the course in every other facet of the film and TV industry.  I'm not so sympathetic to those risks. They wouldn't have risked it if they didn't think they were going to win. They're the biggest budget and most popular films. Risking money on Iron Man to me is like risking money on producing the next Eminem album. It's probably not a bad bet. There's all ready an invested fanbase some of which that fanbase has kids that listen to him. Iron Man, all ready an existing IP from comics to cartoon shows etc.  It's not new. It's all ready been proven that this character can be successful. That's not to say it automatically will be successful.Every film is a risk. No filmmaker has made a commercial/blockbuster Hollywood film with their own cash. It's all funded by studios, private investors, associate producers and often multiple studios and production companies. Everyone takes a risk.

But lets look at the risk of Iron Man. Lets compare Transformers which came out in 2007. Transformers is rated 58% aggregate by critics on RT and 61% of Metacritic. How such a painfully mediocre scored movie gross up  from about $0.7b to $1b. That film was reportedly made between $150m and $250m.  These are numbers Marvel are looking at when they make Iron Man. Both Transformers and Iron Man were Marvel published comics and one stage, both had successful animated series, both by 2007/2008 would have a grown audience of parents that grew up with the original comics and animated series that have kids.

I'm not trying to offend anyone that likes superhero films. Films are entertainment. But,  If you aren't into them it's hard to escape them and they take up much film magazine and pop-culture space that it gets tiresome. Some new content is hard to see other more independent films that are taking a risk on a new idea and not something all ready known in the popular culture for the last 40 or 50 years like Iron Man.

But to keep it on topic and I apologize for going off topic on a little rant..

is the game Avengers  - those reasons might be true as the reasons you gave - technical and valid reasons. However, I don't think the game being made in the first place is coming from somewhere with artistic merit or heart. It's Square Enix saying "we acquired the rights to some major superhero IPs, it's all ready proven to be successful in different media; comics animated series, blockbuster movie, and we're giving it to Crystal Dynamics to make a sh*t ton of profit off the Avengers/Marvel name." That's fair enough but I don't see it as an exercise of doing anything other that trying to make profit. It's not like Nolan doing Batman where he has some vision to make something new and different. Or some visionary and fan that's trying to bring some new element to Avengers. It's a commercial publisher of videos games, trying to cash in on a commercial IP, franchising the name because one would imagine the name alone will sell titles. It's already existing, the IP. It's not new. Like the movie it should be less risk, higher reward. Unfortunately for Square Enix games aren't movies and gaming communities are less forgiving of flawed games than the movie-going people watching flawed movies.

Because I think  think these Marvel/Square Enix projects are an attempted cashcow and not from a creative place, I predict the Guardians of The Galaxy game is going to be majorly flawed. It might be a slight improvement over Avengers but I think it's going to meet a similar fate. Square Enix is music industry equivalent of a record label saying to one of their roster, Pink Floyd "we like what you did with Animals but we want you to write a pop album for Coldplay or Justin Bieber"  Not saying Coldplay or Bieber are bad but I'm not sure how enthused or how naturally excited the Pink Floyd would be do that or Crystal Dynamics are to make something like that when they could be making something more original like  a new IP all together.

If Squeenix's Avengers was truly Squeenix/Marvel trying to cash in on the Marvel craze, the main star and protagonist of the game wouldn't have been a relatively unknown female muslim character created in 2013 that hadn't yet appeared in any live action setting and had only appeared in animated settings 2-3 years prior.

The single player in Avengers is genuinely pretty damn good, with real heart in the story and characters, good attention to detail, tons of callbacks to the source material, the wholeshebang, but it's buggy and bogged down by the loot service game they duct taped onto the side that they tried to turn into the monetisable post-launch endgame.

Sure, Marvel and Square Enix are a business, they're in it to make money, but every company is. Just because it's crazy popular and all over the place doesn't mean every bit of it is bland, copy paste stuff without any sort of artistic merit or heart. The people actually making these games are often huge fans of the characters and worlds and want to see them done right too.

Per Schreier, Starfield will be shown with a late 2022 date - p much already known, but it's another person confirming it. Also confirms the Guardians of the Galaxy game will be shown at Squeenix, unsure if it's a service, apparently not?

Ubisoft also have a surprise game apparently as well so... Splinter Cell rumours are back on the menu boys.

Elden Ring was shown today during Summer Games Fest today so i guess having it at E3 would be redundant now.
