Characters

Spoiler

Bobby Big

An impulsive, emotionally unstable, and criminally insane man who dominates the drug market in Fort Carson. After serving in the army, Bobby moved to town decades earlier and turned to crime soon after. Under his harsh exterior, Bobby is a sometimes kind-heart individual who cares deeply about his friends and to some extent, his enemies as well.

Buck Jean

Bobby’s most loyal companion. Emotionally and mentally scarred after the Vietnam War, Buck was provided with a home by Bobby, who also took him under his wing and taught him the ropes of drug dealing. He is highly intelligent and skilled, but years of stress from being Bobby’s partner has taken a toll on him, making him second doubt his priorities.

Aiden O’Donnel

The president of the Fort Carson MC and Bobby’s former adversary. While a leader in his own right, Aiden has had to adapt to being in second place after the Bobby Big gang defeated his motor club years prior. An event that has lasting effects on the relationship between the two. However, as a strong and capable individual, he becomes a vital ally to Bobby when the Panthers come to town.

Craig Russels

Aiden’s right-hand man and close friend. Craig is observant, rational, and strong, traits which made him invaluable. While he has done a better job at letting the past go than Aiden, he still does harbor some resentment to Bobby and Buck for their role in the fall of his motor club. Despite all however, both he and Bobby share a mutual respect for one another, which is important in times like these.

Carl Pierce

While his autobiography portrays his story as one of a self-made man, Carl’s fortune was actually inherited from his late father. However, even though his story may be fabricated, Carl’s charisma and business experience are as genuine as can be. Thanks to his ambition, PierceCo made the Taft Organization look like a start-up.  Yet, his ambition may just be the thing that finally takes him down.

Elliot Jones

Once a upon a time, Elliot was a hardworking family man trying to cure his son of a drug addiction. Unfortunately, he would eventually himself become addicted and lose his family, which greatly affected his confidence. More recently however, Elliot lost his home to PierceCo, which was reason enough to join Bobby Big and his Resistance. Albeit reluctantly.

Other characters

Harry Marsh

The happily married Sheriff of Fort Carson who has had a long-standing history with Bobby Big. A good man at heart whose job makes him serve at the pleasure of the mayor.

Ruth J. Hawley

Fort Carson’s three term Mayor. A traditional conservative who is all too happy to promote business and grow Fort Carson’s economy, even if that comes at the cost her constituents’ livelihood.

Marcelo Chavez

A high-ranking member of the Panthers tasked with overseeing the occupation of Fort Carson, and the elimination of the Resistance. A man of bent morals and dwindling loyalty.

Jerry McAllister

A long-time member of the Fort Carson MC and one of Craig Russels’ closest friends. Years of setback has made him cynical and cautious, but nonetheless loyal.

Lloyd Brigham

A relatively inexperienced biker. Socially awkward and overweight, the small size of the Fort Carson MC suited him just fine. Despite being a black sheep by all accounts, his brothers still care about him.

Factions

Spoiler

The Fort Carson Resistance

Comprised mainly of Bobby, Buck, and members of the Fort Carson MC. The resistance is a mostly unorganized coalition of Fort Carson’s citizens pushing back against the Panthers’ occupation of their town. While Bobby Big and his crew are the ones making the most noise, there are plenty who are fighting the good fight in the background.

Fort Carson Sheriff’s Department

Fort Carson’s finest, the Sheriff’s Department is the only thing standing between Fort Carson and all out anarchy. Still, the Department itself is a corrupt mess, with crooked cops who serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and with extension, PierceCo. While the Sheriff isn’t happy about it, he is coerced into keeping silent by the threat of defunding his department.

Fort Carson MC

A smaller chapter of the Bone County Bikers, the Fort Carson MC are headed by Aiden O’Donnel. What once was a serious motor club in Southern Bone County, is now a measly group of bikers barely competing with Bobby Big’s business. Their downfall came as a result of a war between Bobby and themselves in 1999 that forced them to cede most of their operations to Bobby.

Panthers Private Security

A Texas based private military contractor founded in the late sixties by Mack Wood Sr. to protect the interests of American businesses abroad. Known at the time for fending off South American cartels, or protecting VIPs from Irish terrorists. Wood’s son, Mack Wood Jr. would however, go on to expand the company’s operations, including allowing convicts and war criminals into its ranks.

PierceCo

A real estate development conglomerate founded following World War II, with the goal to build affordable housing for veterans. By the early nineties after Carl Pierce had it inherited it from his father, PierceCo had come to be known as the masters of luxury. Building palaces for Saudi princes, and hotels for the ultra-wealthy. As well as becoming a corporate shareholder in Panthers Private Security.

How the Turntables…

-The title of this mission is a reference to The Office, where the character Michael Scott wrongly says "well, well, well… how the turntables…" instead of ‘how the tables have turned.’

-The title is referring to how the tables have turned against the Resistance following Buck’s betrayal.

-The original title of this mission in the classic version was “Buck You”.

-It is revealed that the Panthers have sealed off Bobby’s house in case he returned to it.

-Bobby has Carl saved as “sh*tty McAssface” on his phone.

-It is shown that the eastern crane in Liberty Park is being rebuilt after it was destroyed in Reconstruct This!

-Bobby breaks the fourth wall yet again by remarking how despite being remastered, the gameplay of The Fort still remains repetitive.

-Bobby remarks how Wisconsin seems like a good vacation destination. This a reference to The Fort: How Bobby Saved Christmas, wherein Bobby finds himself stuck in Winters Mill, Wisconsin in a parallel dimension.

Yes Bobby, Kaboom

-The title of this mission is a reference to the Penguins of Madagascar meme Yes Rico, Kaboom.

-Bobby has Craig saved as “Steel Balls Craig” on his phone.

-Bobby nicknamed the Atomica as ‘Poki’. This is a reference to popular Twitch streamer  Pokimane , who often goes by Poki as well.

-In the classic version, Bobby used the nickname Celestia. A reference to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. However, this was changed because it was considered to be no longer topical.

One Last Shot

-Carl Pierce remarks that if Aiden did a better job in 1999, he would be discussing with him instead. He is referring to the events of The Fort: Buck-L-Up and Aiden’s defeat at the hands of Bobby.

-Carl states that Bobby’s friends would ditch him if given the chance to rule the town. This becomes true when after Bobby’s disappearance following The Fort: How Bobby Saved Christmas, Aiden does no effort to find him.

-Bobby is revealed to favor cherry blossom flowers.

-Green Palms Oil Refinery is shown to be the Panthers’ main base during their occupation of the town.

-Bobby remarks that he misses his couch. This being the couch outside his house, and a recurring gag from The Fort: Buck-L-Up.

Post Scriptum

-This mission takes place in early 2006. Seven months after the events of main campaign, and a few weeks after The Fort: How Bobby Saved Christmas.

-Aiden mentions the Madisons, which is a crime family that Bobby travelled to Michigan to meet with for a deal.

-Aiden also remarks that “Sean and Kaine are eating each other alive.” He is referring to Bone County Bikers members Sean Phillips and Kaine Callinger from the Cowboys series, and their civil war, which was previously mentioned in Epilogue.

-Aiden asks how ‘The Patriots’ sounds to him. This is eventually what Aiden would rename the Bobby Big Gang to by the events of Epilogue.

-This is the third Post Scriptum in the Target13 Universe following the ones in Epilogue and Agents of E.D.E.N: Christmas Rescue.

Hello Target! Here's my review of The Fort 2021! In this review I'll point out the things I liked the most in this Remastered version!

Hidden Weapons: A simple yet amazing detail that Target added in this version: In every mission, there will be hidden weapons and pickups around the locations you need to go. Despite being a simple detail that's easy to add, so far I've only seen Target doing this kind of stuff in this MP and previous Panthers missions. These hidden weapons not only help you during the missions but also give you a feeling of accomplishment whenever you find them by yourself, and that's great!

Object Placement: The object placement is wonderful! The amount of detail is incredible! Almost everything is filled with objects, from Bobby Big's house with his couch and trash all over the place, to the PierceCo building sites, with cranes, dirt and construction equipment, and the Sheriff Department, both inside and outside, filled with weaponry and crates. Bravo!

Overall Improvements: This remastered version is truly way better than the classic version from 2015. It is less difficult, more detailed and way better!

Target, thanks for making the Fort more enjoyable and thanks for being a great Designer. As long as we have good Designers like you, then the DYOM community will never die.

Have a nice day!

Most sincerely thank you, Stardust for your words. I am humbled. I find it interesting that you have experienced this version of the pack to be easier, while my intent was to make it the opposite. 😂

I am very thankful you took the time to experience and appreciate the effort that went into this, it makes it all worthwhile.

Alright i told you i will be here lmao, now bear in mind few things. First of all i am half asleep by the time i am writing this. Second, This is my first time reviewing an MP in my new format since it is different from single missions. Third, well i am pretty sure you know this already but dont take it seriously 😂. Alright let's start shall we:

Story:

Spoiler

So disclaimer, i didnt play the Buck L Up MP before it so idk if i am missing something, well checking your universe timeline i am pretty much am lol but that wont cloud my judgement as this also works as a standalone MP.
Now the story..... So Big Bad Boy Bobby(4 Bs lmao) gets interrupted from his usual day of work by news that some greaseball rich asshole is gonna turn this fine small town into the second coming of Disney Land (well not true i am just exagerrating lmao) then decides to cause havoc in the town as a means of retaliation and riot against the Panthers. It feels consistent throughout the MP but sometimes i feel like there was room for more, you know this is a perrfect example of a straightforward story and that handles itself quite well with good writing, BUT being a story sucker myself i obviously wished to see more, especially considering the fact that it is 12 missions, again not considering its prequel. But i feel like this would have been cool to be lets say 30 with some more elements but that's just me. Everything makes sense and the story capitalizes on the fast paced actions which keeps it interesting like an action movie. And how can we forget about the plot twists, well Bobby's BFF, or so we thought, Buck's sellout. Reminds me of Smoke a bit which adds insult to injury more, unlike Smoke however, it was unexpected, the only time Buck was sus was in the mission itself where he sends you to Cluckin Bell for food supplies as a trap but imo i wish there was more buildup but in a way that doesnt take the surprise value of it. Also one small bummer is Carl Pearce's death, a big CEO with thousands of private militia behind him with dozens of advanced dangerous equipments......dies in a smalll gun fight...yikes. Tbf Bobby had to make his way to him by killing his private militia on his own and destroying a couple of buzzards but would have loved to give Carl some sort of power like in the Boss fights not just a 4 shot from the Deagle and he is gone so i kinda wished there was more but again maybe it is only me.

So overall, solid story for its size but some missed opportunities.

Characters:

Spoiler

Bobby is the best, nuff said, goodbye!!!!!
Jk, but foreal your writing of Bobby was astonishing, his stone cold character amidst all of this shenanigans from Pearce was perfect. It is funny cos i would like to believe that Bobby was inspired by a famous WWE wrestler, Stone Cold Steve Austin. Both are cold blooded, tough nailed sons of bitches who dont give a f*ck and wont do whatever you tell them, that's why it was easy to like Booby, his badassry isnt oversaturated plus he can be relatable at times. Also, the villian in Carl Pearce also reminds me of another WWE character this time ironically is Stone Cold's bigges nemisis in wrestling history, Vince McMahon the owner of the WWE, seeing as he is in a high corporate position with lots of money and power to make anyone's life a living hell. The dynamic between these characters is what i like and honestly couldnt have been better.

Now enough about Bobby and his assface counterpart let's talk about the supporting roles, since i havent played Buck L Up, i dont have a strong base for some of the characters like Aiden and the others. but reading through yout timeline i saw that Bobby spared Aiden like 6 years prior to The Fort and they are "cool", or so we thought at the end, and Buck being Bobby's BFFs forever and all of that sunshine crap lmao. Again due to the story length, i kinda wished there was more exposures for the characters, not saying they were bad they definetly did their jobs and then some but we obviously cant get enough from stories and some What IF?

Overall, the characetrs were written perfectly although there were some windows for more.

Dialogue & Cutscenes:

Spoiler

Cutscenes wise for what it is and how old this MP was, it was alright, ik there are some cutscenes enthusiasts out there who like some more like the spamming of smooth cutscenes lmao or some good camera angles(looking at u zeko) but it is good, obviously not the best but it is enjoyable.

Dialogue, however, is very spicy. Ik they should be categorized with characters but i got used to using it with cutscenes soo......... While sometimes it feels brief and direct, there is also other times where dialogues are interesting to hear to since they add a bit of character. For example, Bobby being Bobby and rebelling everyone, Carl Pierce being an asshole richman, Aiden being concerned at times, etc...... Also to note, the 4th walls in this MP are hilarious adn that's the least i can say about them lol. When you told me that there was gonna be a Pokimane involvement i chuckled and brushed it off as banter but when Bobby literally named the tank Poki and then proceeds to call her queen like the biggest of simps and add to that the pics of her in one of the collectibles i lost my sh*t in the quitest manner possible cos this sh*t was funny XD. i might be exagerrating, i think i am, but i liked it and that's what matters, besides that the constant nagging of Bobby on you is really hilarious to the point where it makes me feel for Bobby wanting to punch youa cross the screen XD. I said my piece enough on this one and there is no need for more on how good the dialogue was.

Gameplay:

Spoiler

I like challeneges and this MP didnt fail to deliver so. As you said, the Panthers were buffed to the gills worse than a steroid user and add to that the dynamic of their weapons and annoying vehicles. I honestly got a bit frustrated from the mission "Deputized" due to the constant pinpoint accuracy of these f*ckers and the annoying ass bikers ramming my ragdolled ass on the road lmao(yes i played it with ragdoll cos it is so fun). Even the ones after it proves to be much more difficult. Although as you mentioned with Bobby ironically that the gameplay is repititve which at times was since the only source of action was killing the Panthers, it still does its job pretty well. And the hidden weapon caches adds more the fun since u seek to find these special firepowers to test it on these poor bastards. Ngl i got excited as i found the minigun, TWICE, and i was like "Big Booby is gonna give it to em bitches" hehe even the random ones around Bobby's house or restaurant gives a bit more of purpose besides going to the destination and killing the enemy.

OHHHH TRUST ME!!! we are not done with the "more purpose" part.

Collectibles:

Spoiler

I had to make a category for this one. Easily your best feature of the whole MP, alot of work were put into designing them just like usual and some of them have interesting analogies to the missions, like the bloody hammer in "Construct this" which works as a symbolism for workers being battered the piss out of lol just like the mission. My favorite one by far was the reskin of the PSP one, i dont remember the name of it only the last name was "Ez" but i marked when you renamed GTA LCS into Car hijackers or some common generic name, especiallt fitting since this was in 2005 when it came out hot in the market. The purpose of the collectibles was simple: to keep the player occupied by a different task rather than the main one, it helped give more purpose and interactivity in the missions as counting dead bodies can get frustrating at times, i had to randomize some numbers when i got them wrong, and it either gives a cool story or a cool memorial token just like Spiderman especially with Bobby's monologuing sounds just like Peter Parker. Still cant believe that you just came up with it even though you have been designing for ages.

Overall score and rating:

Spoiler

Accumulating all of these points i officially would like to rate "The Fort 2021 Remastered" by Target 13 a numerical value of 8-8.6, which leads me to the offical scoring of a:
Very Good Missionpack

Congratz buddy and in case if you are not familiar with the rating, this is the second best rating i give based on my critical review so have a good one and take care🎊🥂

Alright let's start shall we:

First off, as I already had said in our Discord server, I am grateful to you for taking the time to write this review. I recognize that you took the effort to play and review The Fort while fasting for Ramadan, so again I truly appreciate it. Thank you!

You raised some very valid points, and I would like to address each of them here below. Spoiler warning for The Fort and other entries of the Target13 Universe.

Spoiler

Let me start off with a couple of points I absolutely agree with.

  • Buck's betrayal has no build-up;
  • There is much character dynamic that wasn't explored.

That being said, it is very important to take into account that The Fort was originally written by a fourteen-year-old and that it was never supposed to have a sequel, or jumpstart an entire universe for that matter.

Traces of my (hopefully) past immature writing are indeed still to be found in the story. Such as characters being one-dimensional, sudden plot changes, no consequences for the story. Had I written The Fort today, I would have focused more on the relationship between Bobby and Buck, I would have had the Resistance focus on strategic targets to systematically kick the Panthers out of town (as opposed to going to Cluckin' Bell for example), I would have definitely added more weight to story decisions (wiping out the Sheriff's Department would have not gone unpunished). But I didn't do those things at the time, and that is also the major reason I remastered this thing, so that I could make some minor retcons, fix some mistakes, and just make this a story that is consistent to its successors.

Because of the flaws that became to clear to me only in hindsight, other stories were developed as to ‘fill in the gaps’ left by The Fort. Buck-L-Up is probably one of the most important stories in The Fort series because it explores the dynamic between Bobby and Buck. In that mission-pack it becomes increasingly clear that Buck’s betrayal is inevitable. Cowboys: The Tale of Betty Shore explores Buck coming to terms with his actions. So, in a way The Fort is not an entirely standalone story. I recognize that this is a failure on its part but oh well. This is a remaster not a remake. For what it is supposed to be, I am proud of what it has managed to become. Furthermore, considering the nature of a shared universe, no story is truly standalone.

In terms of gameplay, yes this is repetitive as hell. I am glad you appreciate the collectibles and recognize that their purpose is add a new element to the gameplay. I have always been better at writing and telling stories, than I have at making them playable. At the time of release back in 2015, The Fort was perhaps not exceptional at gameplay, but it was certainly not lacking. However, now with you and the new generation of designers making increasingly complex missions, it does indeed seem basic. But in terms of gameplay, it was never supposed to be more than that.

Again I thank you for your time, for your recognition of my efforts and for all your contributions. I am wishing you a happy Eid in advance.

Also much thanks to @Axoez for arguably the most helpful review I have ever received.

i am jelus i wan axoez/raxo to reviw moi mp dis wei

Jokes aside, I want to be able to give this a go in the coming days. I gave Agents of EDEN: Christmas Rescue yesterday and as you would know from the feedback I gave you personally, I enjoyed it a lot and I think it's a really exciting prospect for the rest of your universe. Now, I know this is a remaster of a missionpack I have played before but I still look forward to refresh myself on the story of Bobby Big and also to reflect on what has changed in the remaster.

Glad that you appreciate the points the tried to make, also appreciate your acknowledgement of Eid, hope you have a good time as well.

Now for Buck's character and journey, i agree, i should explore it more with the prequel and the sequel of The Fort as it gives morea arc and depth to his character, so if i have the time soon i may give them a try and perhaps review them.

That being said, it is very important to take into account that The Fort was originally written by a fourteen-year-old and that it was never supposed to have a sequel, or jumpstart an entire universe for that matter.

For a 14 year old writing this story, it actually stands alone as a very good MP. Yes there is alot of stuff that could have been done but then again i kindsa missed that this is a "remaster" not a "remake" so my bad but for what it is, it is really good, i would recommend it along with other MPs for DYOM starters.

Again thank you for taking the time to read my review and think through its points, have a good day!!!

Hey Target13, I don't usually play any MPs but I decided to make this an exception because I was bored and had nothing else to do, gotta say this mission pack made me get through my day.

So here's my feedback (it's obviously gonna contain spoilers):

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Spoiler

Story

So here in this story you're in Fort Carson, the main character being Big Bobby, who's trying to protect his home as it is from invaders that are willing to transform the place for their own greed. Bobby is not alone though, he has got friends that are on his side: Buck, Aiden, Craig and many others. One of them dissapears, one of them betrays the friendship for their own benefits, some of them die fighting to save Fort Carson from the Panthers. At first, the cops showed to be a threat, but cops weren't enough to stop them, PierceCo had to bring better, and stronger enemies so called the Panthers. That's where the story got more intense. There were less and less friends alive, but the friendship kept growing stronger than the Panthers. That's what intrigued me the most about this story: the growing friendship that became unstoppable, stronger than the greed. I loved the relationships between the characters, some of the dialogues were funny.

So overall this story was great, with the moral of this story being that the unseperable friendship tends to be stronger than the greedy and selfish people.

Gameplay

The objects and cars placements were amazing, this amount of detail was awesome. If it wasn't for that amount of detail, the gameplay would've been lame, so I'm thankful for that. The gameplay never ceased to bore me because of that ton of action. I liked the hidden pickups that you've put (especially the minigun in rare cases), that were helpful with the progress of the missions. Some of the missions were quite challenging, I had to attempt them a couple of times to pass them but it was still worth playing till the end.

Cutscenes

I liked the animations and the reactions which made the characters feel more alive when talking. I also loved the cutscene at the very end of this mission pack, showing the explosion effects in the back.

Conclusion

Your mission pack was really awesome. Hope you make other great projects in the future. I might actually look forward to play other mission packs you made too. Have a great weekend and stay safe.

I am trying to see whether I can get DYOM running on Linux. If I'll find any luck, this is definitely the first thing I am playing.
