Could a Zombie DLC work for a GTA Game?

Recommended Posts

Grotti Vigilante

With many of us being GTA fans, naturally we are also fans of Rockstar Games as a whole, and Red Dead Redemption is without a doubt a favourite of many on these forums. One of my personal favourite aspects was it's Undead Nightmare DLC, which seemed to fit the setting quite well. And more than just being about surviving the apocalypse you actually had other towns that you could liberate as safe zones for you to save your game. Zones that you had to occasionally come to the defence to much like the gang territories from San Andreas. It was a nice short story that complimented the main game as a non-canon what-if scenario.

Now with that said, do you personally think that an Undead Nightmare-style DLC could work for a Grand Theft Auto game? Well, I personally think it could if done correctly. I think if gun shops were closed, ammo was scarce, flying vehicles removed or at least very severely limited, and obviously regular vehicles being not as prevalent as regular gameplay, then it could really work to give a GTA DLC that survival horror element that was so good with Undead Nightmare. Survivor outposts could exist throughout the city setting as a place to save your game, and I think side-missions for these outposts as well as stranger missions could add to the variety rather than just having main story missions for the DLC.

But what do you all think? Could a zombie DLC for a Grand Theft Auto game work like it did for Red Dead Redemption? Let us know your thoughts down below as well as any ideas as to how you think it might work if it was done by Rockstar. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter!

It would be incredibly predictable, but it would definitely work. It would probably be a Days Gone killer if it were a reality since the internet would likely hype the DLC up to high hell.

I'd rather they do an exploitation film homage or a 50s-style alien B-movie parody as a 'crazy' DLC for GTA V, then again it all boils down to the setting and period where the GTA game takes place.

yes.

zombie dlc was even one of the SP DLCs R* had planned for V.

it had new mechanics like fuel, needing to sleep, ammo, food etc.

and every time you slept the map would change.

like more army, more buildings destroyed etc.

but GTAO f*cked that up for us

imo that SP dlc would compete with TLOU and other zombie survival games , welp in modding community the zombie mod is just drunk guys with oil paints lol

if that sp dlc ever came gta v would have some cool new mechanics and physics , I actually wanted to see the artwork of the canceled zombie dlc , undead one was cool

They were planning to do it before scrapping it because of Gta online.

I have a new saying, Thanks Shark Card.

wasn't there also Benzies leaving and lots of developpers from R* North and San Diego leaving with him? and then the remaining developpers were put on ps4/xbOne and online.

I can see them scrapping the GTA V's SP zombie DLC because how unfitting it is with the game. Kinda ironic since online is also heavily derived from what GTA should be. Maybe they rework it into a completely new IP, but I don't see that happening soon as R* changes their development strategy.

Do you have a news source for these features?

It could work but if they were gonna do zombies again I'd prefer it in RDR2. They could do something different for GTA. Alien invasion seems the obvious choice for GTA V.

However it seems like single player DLC is a thing of the past due to not being profitable enough in comparison to the low effort high profit of just releasing some new cars or guns etc for online. A great shame, as artistically and gameplay wise the DLC thing was one of the best concepts in gaming.

A leaked design document from 2012 that was circulated among some users here. This DLC would've been a next-gen exclusive and one of the big things they were aiming for were optimizing the game to handle insane amounts of zombies on screen at once. I believe this is why they randomly included things like the hatchet and machete, along with improved blood effects for all melee weapons in first person mode.

You could do an Army of the Dead scenario where you would try to do a heist while fighting off zombies.
