would make more sense for it to be next year's october then. seems to me rockstar would want at least a year of life put into the E&E version before moving on. gotta milk every last inch of it

Maybe. But even if it was announced this October, you'd still have 12 months or so from then, before it released. So you'd have at least 18-20 months of sales, before GTA VI released. Remember, announcement for new games always drives sales for the previous title, when it comes to big releases like these.

And that's presuming GTA VI releases 1 year after announcement. Which, I'm not sure it will. In fact, I think it's extremely unlikely. So realistically, they'd have 20 - 32 months of sales before GTA VI released.

 

Aaaand even that presumes GTA V E&E doesn't get delayed again. Which would be bonkers, as the gap from announcement to release is almost 2 years, just like 2011 - 2013 lol

Rockstar Games are always delayed from 1 year before release to 2. I think if it's revealed this year, 2024 would be when it comes out.

An argument can be made for the case that GTA V was so successful, that this time, they're allowed to take their time. And that with the improvements to work conditions, and certain people having left which hopefully leads to "less last minute rewrites" etc. That maybe this time, Rockstar can announce a game and not delay it?

 

Many believe that it's a purposeful tactic, and that it drives more hype. I do agree, it dries more hype; The desire and desperation to know more does more than Rockstar even need to do, tbh. But I don't belive it's intentional. Many ex-Rockstar devs have said that GTA V was meant to release in fall 2012, then march, then May 2013. Before it settled on September. I think it's just a case of management being overly optimistic.

Forget T2 to be sold. It might have been a hostile takeover at best but that's not how Japanese corporations (Sony) work. Microsoft is fine for now, particularly because FTC has seemingly stepped in to review MS-Blizzard deal. The acquisition attracted a huge regulatory focus now.

 

The safest best is Square Enix. I could rule out Konami too. Konami Holding has a bunch of other interests in the market: sports centers, hotel management firms, management consulting subsidiaries, gambling machines etc... Bunch of useless divisions for a video game company. It might also be KojiPro but there's a sealed strategic partnership with certain conditions to abide by; these are signed for 5-10 years at least.
