More GTAs confirmed!!

 

Several Rockstar employees have spoken out about burn out from just bouncing between those two franchises so clearly there seems to be hunger within some at the studio to be doing other things. As we've said though, it's not all up to them.

Yeah you didn't know? Red Dead Revolver was actually going to be a capcom game. The studio Angel studios later got bought by Rockstar and was renamed Rockstar San Diego. Dan Houser was looking at their projects in development saw Revolver and decided to keep it and finish it.

When GTA 6 gets announced it will most likely be 9pm here and that’s when I’m at the gym (just thinking out on the forum) that’s crazy af if I read gta 6 has been announced while lifting weights…. What will u guys be doin?

r/gta6 and a discord server liked to say I was f*cking dumb, didn't know what I was talking about, GTA VI had been in development since before GTA V even released and that it was obvious that GTA VI would be announced soon.

I don't know if it's apt to solely credit Dan Houser when we have many former developers and executives saying otherwise. There is a fantastic Polygon article about the history of Red Dead Revolver. Let me quote a few things from it-

Yes I saw that, but the article doesn't imply anywhere that he always had his Twitter locked, and only that he locked his Twitter account after the wave of harassment came his way.

I actually thought it may have been, until the pandemic and then GTA V E&E was announced. I mostly just decided to stick and not change my prediction/analysis again. But yeah, 2022 was always my 'most likely' year.

Yeah, besides, the Capcom's Red Dead was a very arcady game. Rockstar, with the sequel, turned it into GTA 1911. Capcom would never have had the same success.

Do you think there will be another 9 year gap between releases? Or do you think RD2 development just caused issues for GTA 6 development? It would be great if rockstar go back to releasing 2 games every 4-6 years

It's just the modern reality of AAA gaming. It's getting more complex and the demands are getting higher. We're also trying to improve working conditions and reduce or remove crunch. So games are only going to take longer.
