I don't think we need anything pandemic related in GTA VI, but considering NFTs were ripped on in the latest GTAO DLC, it's possible that anti-vaxxers will get some limelight.

Apples and oranges. Don’t see how NFTs bs making an appearance in one line of dialogue in an online update correlates to “anti vaxxers “ being in their targets for their next game but hey I guess we’ll see I guess ..?

Well, GTAO already had a possible reference to COVID-19.

 

At end of the Gerald's Last Play mission "Make Ends Meat" Gerald said the line: "And wash your hands before you deliver that sh*t. I don't know what the hell you touched in that place, but I know its nasty.”

 

Consider that this mission was released in April of 2020 + we encountering Chinese mafia - this is possibly the first somewhat COVID-related line in GTA series.

With COVID just take care of it in GTA Online in whatever DLC they release next. So that way Rockstar has already done it and they don't have to address it in GTA VI

Have I hit a nerve or something?    People are talking about current events i.e. the pandemic being mentioned in VI, NFTs are a current trending topic in the gaming and art space, I gave my own opinion on it... it's not that deep.

But it wasn't really developed by them and frankly I don't think they even wanted or cared enough to do it, otherwise they would do it themselves. If I remember correctly Rockstar went on record saying they don't want revisit their older games.

 

The games that were actually developed by them though i.e. GTAV/O and RDR2 are both in those charts lol and they've been up there for a long time, so I don't see anyway Rockstar changing their development practices on mainline games from Trilogy DE's commercial performance, in fact it reinforces the idea of them doing things their own way. After all their last game that came out just 3 years ago was universally acclaimed and sold 40 million copies by now. They have the formula tried and tested already, single player at launch - online support going forward. Best case scenario here is you'd get better remasters/remakes from Rockstar, worst case scenario you wouldn't get any more remasters even when they could've been actually good.

Rockstar love to rag on basically any popular topic even if they don't specifically feature it, and given the (continuing!) prominence of the pandemic they're definitely going to take the piss out of antivaxxers and the like - even if it's a pre-wakefield period piece, I can easily see them leaning more into parodying period-appropriate pseudoscience than they otherwise would have. Because, well, Rockstar aren't exactly subtle or high-brow with their humour lol

If GTA VI features propaganda believers and booster addicts it will be an isnta-buy for me.

On the topic of T2 acquiring Zynga:

Mobile games are huge and microtransactions in mobile games are even bigger.
Given the majority of R's current fan base are likely kids, teenagers and some virgin dudes/ladies in their 40s that are into playing games on their phones I can clearly see why T2 made the move with Zynga.
Wouldn't a GTA 6 made by Zynga for mobile and ported by GSG to consoles and PC be great for everyone?
In the Trilogy Remastered thread most fans expressed that they don't care for graphics and gameplay is what they are here for.
Something along the lines of Gangster: New Orleans with better gameplay elements would be everyone's wet dream come true.

Anti-vaxxer's are prime material for GTA to take the piss out of, but I doubt they'll touch on the pandemic much if at all. Most games I see are avoiding the subject on the basis that it's a very real, serious and current issue in the real world and games are meant to be a way to escape the real world, so mixing the two is just a thing that doesn't really need to happen.

 

As for the idea that if they did touch on vaccination that they should play both sides... I don't know where the idea that GTA takes the piss out of both sides comes from, cause it really doesn't. GTA's satire and humour comes from the people who write it and they have their own opinions and beliefs and no matter what they do that's going to seep into their writing. GTA V for example took the piss out of social media, cults, celebrity life etc and it was all very one sided.

 

If I was wrong, we wouldn't those groups getting all mad and pissy when ever a new GTA launches and they've been mocked... which is funnily enough is what is happening here before it's even potentially happened.

I know. After all this time i think i got the right to be salty. I didn't harass any dev, I don't blame any dev. It's the companys fault that they can't control the workflow.

NFT's in games are basically just microtransactions the publisher/developer is legally allowing you to sell to other players for real money, with them getting a cut of course. It's really not new to games and has been done for years now, particularly on Steam through the Steam market (CS:GO, Dota 2 and TF2 being prime examples) but devs/pubs are now adding it to their games under the NFT banner.

 

I honestly am pretty fine with the idea of being able to sell my cosmetics for real money in games, there's a slippery slope there like there is with all things of that sort in games, but in principle I'm not against it. But when they're done as "NFT's" it all becomes ehhhhhhhhhhhhh, as NFT stuff comes with the implication that these are rare, unique, can increase in value meaning you make money from them etc. That stuff is all shady as hell. That's not even getting into the questions about what happens to it all when the game dies, servers are sh*t down etc etc.
