This is why Dan didn't know what to do with GTA 6. GTA parody is now real life.

I hear that a lot, it's not something i necessarily agree though.

You can always parody the current events. Hell i would argue that the ludicrous era we live in would be exceptionally fitting for a Gta game.

 

Sure it's risky but i am sure a creative mind could do wonders!

Question is if they have the mental resources and energy to do so.

Nobody knows, but I agree with Jez that there's a strong likelihood that a lot or major corporations may have had some influence on it.

You'd be extremely naïve to think they wouldn't want to hide the dislikes from their products (not just games)

One of the extremely rare occasions Dan Houser is on a podcast/interview.

Anyway haven't listened to the full thing yet but damn it's going to be extremely hard to fill his shoes.

The man is a genius, and has an insane amount of knowledge when it comes to pop culture/literature/etc.

She said that she's a very close friend of his and I don't know if she plays games or not. It's a book podcast she probably didn't want to ask him about GTA. Dan Houser rarely gives interviews and probably didn't want to talk about GTA.

It will be obvious that players from GTAO will be slowly transitioning to the new GTAO 2 but for now such thing would not be needed, since GTAO is doing well and is still making huge profit.

GTA Online 2? How do you convince the players, who have spent thousand of hours on the game over the course of ~8 years, to move over? By drip-feeding the same reskinned content over the next decade? I feel it's too much of a risk even for R*.

 

I personally don't think there will be a «GTAO 2», the actual one will go standalone next year on last & current generation consoles so they'll probably take the Warzone approach with it (this would also allow them to destinate more resources to VI single player, which is nice).

Already players are moving from one game (old one) to another (new one) which have microtransactions like for example Assasin Creed or FIFA series but in a case of GTAO the game must start to lose popularity and come to a state where Rockstar decides: it's time to release the GTA 6 with GTAO 2.

There will be. It may not be literally called "GTA Online 2", but there will be a new version of it, running on the latest version of RAGE, etc.

Everything will change, look at GTA IV to GTA V to RDR2 as the biggest examples. Fighting, shooting, driving, etc. All that changes and will be introduced with the next version of GTA Online.

Why not? I think that after some time (at least 2 years from now) GTAO will be getting more and more outdated.

Exactly but the question is if it will be a totally new map or they will just make a new version of Los Santos that we have right now.

Literally releasing a next iteration of GTA Online. You really think people will rather stay on a 10+ year old online (with mechanics from 10+year and all that) then on a completely new one, with new engine, new everything? In the end, very few people will be mad because of the lost progress. Even in these forums, if there was a poll asking what people would prefer, the new GTA online option would win.

Well, it will obviously be set in the city/location that GTA VI takes place in. Weather or not they add Los Santos is up for debate.

If we forget about the E&E trailer for a moment (I don't think it's representative of what E&E will be in the end - otherwise I'll completely lose my faith in Rockstar, because 
this trailer appeared to be assembled by some intern who was given PS3 footage in a coffee break), E&E will likely be a good glimpse of what the Los Santos part will look like 
in the next version of GTA Online (that comes with GTA 6). Because I can't imagine that they won't take Los Santos into the next version/level of GTAO.

Sad, perhaps, but also hauntingly beautiful in it's way. I suppose it depends on the location and story as to whether something somewhat similar would "fit" with the new game.

Whilst this may be taking things somewhat off topic, but I do wonder how many of the readers/contributors to this part of GTAF play GTA:O regularly. How many are still (if they ever even did) logging in regularly and either just spending time or working towards a goal? How many are spending real money on it? Obviously GTA:O still has a lot of people doing those things but I'm not sure we're the most representative bunch in that regard so whatever problems we have with the current system and what we'd like to see in a new one aren't necessarily going to be what Rockstar should do for the best! We may not care about losing out on progress but perhaps the majority of the player base is still very happy with the current map and the current set of things available to them. For me, I've always preferred the single player campaign in almost any game so the thing I most want is a new map to explore and a new story.

Single player is king. Always. If they released a new GTAO only I wouldn’t buy it. That feeling of a brand new world and the story that’s set in it is just magic.
